Got $109 ticket with no VI for non compliant suspension in the rear. This is my winter set up so meaty tyres. Zero stretch and sunk. I also had 2 passengers so the back was a little lower than pictured I guess.
What hasn't Killed me, has made me more tolerant of RS!

Can they do you on rear tint? Its only tinted in the rear 3. Might look darker in photo but front windows are stock.
I think it says 2.9(1) : Vehicle not compliant. Trying to read the scribbles so I am not sure what numbers are written. Thats what it looks like...
OEM is actually 215/45/17, not that it would make your car any less legal. Just an FYI xD
I am not at all familiar with the ticket disputing process, but regardless of whether you plan on disputing, I think the most important thing is to find out definitively what violation you have been written up for. There may not be any point to go by what the officer told you if he had booked you up for something else. And since there is no Section 2.9(1) in the MVAR, and Section 2.9 in the MVA refers to something totally different, I think your first order of business is to confirm that.
Yours is the first post I saw. I agree to fix the obvious violation but also bring your whole car in compliance. There are many areas you can fail on a Box 1/2 VI. We fail completely stock cars for poor tires, worn brakes, suspension, cracked windshield, faulty seat belts.. the list goes on.

what's the general reaction from the CTV piece posted weeks ago? not just reddit/4chan/this site as a gauge but the average local resident takeaway from it?
if CTV does go with the follow-up on the dealership harrassment angle, what would come of it?
would VPD higher-ups bother investigating internally if something is not a widely visible negative PR on local headlines at 6pm?
I feel Like most people(non car enthusiasts) don’t care because it’s not happening to them. They are just fed up with loud sounding exhausts even though a lot of these cars are legally below the decimal limit. I’ve brought this up with a number of non car people with the fact that you can’t reasonably fight a VI and they just look at you like your from mars. There needs to be more people coming forward who have been vi’d with a stock car. The dude with the fiat spider, why would you bother raising your vehicle if that’s how fiat delivered it legally in Canada? Just to make a traffic cop happy? Let them take it up with fiat! People get educated on the rules, print them out and keep them in your glove box and record these encounters. Be polite and respectful but don’t suck up to the officer. He’s not your buddy. Think how bad it will look when he himself doesn’t know the actual laws and you do and it’s recorded. As for telling you where to get your car inspected? You can go to any licensed facility, otherwise what are all the non dealership licensed facilities for then? Personally if I got a VI for my bmw m-sport suspension and an officer wanted to do a follow up with my dealership, they’d be told to take a hike.

Yeah, that was something I didn't like about that story. He should not have raised it before taking it for inspection if it was all stock. That would be a better argument to say it passed and he did absolutely nothing to it to make it pass.

Not saying it’s simple. It’s just tough seeing fellow car enthusiasts being ticketed for stock or even being moderately modified which would be the equivalent of getting a speeding ticket for going 1km an hour over the speed limit. It’s a joke. We need to get more of this stuff out into the media
hi, i drive the golf above that was vi'd on the 24th by christiansen. got me for exhaust, stretched tires, suspension, non oem lights, and windshield tint (banner).
i completely understand the exhaust thing (my car is way too loud), and the windshield tint, but the way he tried to strong arm the fact that coilovers were illegal and that i had visible camber even though my car has factory camber is what made me raise my eyebrows. nothing on my car sits lower than the bottom of the rim, my headlights are more than 56cm off the ground, and my suspension has been altered no more than 4 inches from stock.
his insistence that some of the things on my car, which i know are within legal limits, were very illegal is what makes me feel like he is on a power trip and abusing his power as a traffic cop.
as for passing the vi, i'm going to throw my stock wheels on, put a muffler on, peel all the stickers off and stick a red reflector on the rear bumper somewhere and hopefully get it passed.
Im sorta lucky that my car has the red reflectors in the actual taillights and not on the bumper
If anything, if the officer knew what he was talking about, he would've cited you for excessive poke, and not camber, which there actually is none of even visually.
Still boggles my mind the power these two officers have, spouting complete utter nonsense and being able to get away with it. There's literally videos floating around where the officers admit on-camera to not being experts on cars, yet citing us for nonsense laws that doesn't exist without any repercussions, wasting everyone's time and money on trivial things.
It's just such an unfortunate and ridiculous situation in Vancouver right now. It's sad that I won't get to drive into Vancouver once I throw my exhaust on my car come warmer temps because of two power-tripping officers getting direction from politicians to crack down on anything modified. Not worth risking it since these guys have been reported as far south as Knight and Marine, and as far west as Davie and Bute.
Time to take SW Marine to Vancouver, through UBC where it's RCMP?

Discouraging as the current situation may be, we will see what the VPD and Vancouver Police Board have to say on June 13 during their board meeting. Thus far, I still don't see anything different that would give me any reasons to ease my cynicism. But at least I know that the authorities must follow procedure and answer to the inquiry, however ridiculous their replies might be...
They have been putting motorcycles on all 4 corners in downtown selling cancer donation flowers recently though this seems unlikely in this particular case
