hmmm that accord was on sale a bit ago for 3k I think.

Not a bad pickup for 1500, VI is about $150 and if you can whatever is needed for cheap could be a decent car to play around in.

68style 10-09-2018 12:53 PM

If your car is modded enough, could cost thousands and thousands of dollars to pass an inspection and it would be a massive black hole of time/time off work running around....... that's definitely encouragement for some people to just eat shit on the car I guess.

My 68 Mustang was mint enough to easily get collector plates no issue and I don't notice anything when driving it...... but because I applied for modified collector plates, it requires a provincial inspection and I've had to spend almost $1,500 fixing random shit on it... you'd be surprised how picky the inspectors are.

yray 10-09-2018 12:59 PM

bahahaha

if they get Box1, they'll abandon the car?

i-vtecyo 10-09-2018 01:39 PM

I got out of the "race" car phase last year and been daily driving a sienna as my primary car up until my dad crashed it last week.. Maybe i can get back into the "race" car scene and snag up a cheap deal cause ppl dont want to deal with VI's :P

How picky are they? Do they just follow the MVA like a textbook?

I'm still uncertain what mods would pass or not pass...

For example in the Accord and Genesis. In their list of mods, what exactly would need to be fixed, or is most of that list illegal mods?

68style 10-09-2018 02:48 PM

It’s not really the mods, it’s basically a giant mechanical inspection... the mods are just prompting the police or issuer to question the mechanical or roadworthiness of your vehicle. It’s a standard inspection of brakes and suspension components and health of the car including a road test and they also check alignment specs from factory (or they’re supposed to)... so suspension mods probably fuck you up the most. The cars like that Accord will get shit on for removing his airbag and putting another wheel in. It’s also clearly a shit box so I’m sure lots of mounts and rubbers are old or broken and whatever else is wrong. That sort of stuff.

The Hyundai is so far out of alignment spec probably the entire suspension needs to go or if it’s coils at least jacked up to a reasonable height where the camber is within spec. Hyundai is also missing his emissions control equipment, I’m guessing the primary and secondary cats for a Genesis are not cheap.

Its a "play stupid games, win stupid prizes" scenario for some. Thats for sure.

Yaaaaa, just gotta make friends. Passing a VI shouldn't cost thousands. Last I heard a couple years ago going rate was $450.

68style 10-09-2018 07:03 PM

I don’t think too many shops are futzing around anymore...

It spends 98% of it's life on a race track. it's caged and low and cambered and loudish (not obnoxious) and has no interior but i still drive it on the road from time to time. i put 500 ish kms on it at the beginning of the spring just the break in a new motor. the car has better brakes, better tires, better suspension, a full roll cage, proper harnesses but of course all that screams vi. should it? not in my opinion.

some shitty van with desperately squealing brakes or a pickup with the muffler swaying around b/c the pipes have rusted through or a car with no working brake lights. these are vi worthy infractions

say what you want about how this duke guy decided to react to the vi but honestly there is nothing on that car that i would deem unsafe based on the pictures in this thread. not even the camber assuming the tires were in good condition.

Last sentence of what you wrote apart, I have said the same thing verbatim before on here.

I see it everyday, piece of crap 1980's car or truck, smoking like crazy, holding up traffic doing 60km/h on the highway, burnt out lights, damaged all over, driven by someone who should have done the world a favour and crawled into a grave 20 years ago. (sorry peeps, if you have grandparents that still drive, know that I hate you and them to your core)

Think what you want about my FX, but the reality is, that I've got some of the stickiest high performance 295 series tires and brakes bigger than most people's wheels. Now granted, I've yet to be targeted, but I also don't tend to draw a lot of attention to myself when I am in the FX (I know shocking considering the fugly blue wrap).

The thing is, I see many modified cars that are so well taken care of, the owners take pride and joy in perfectly maintaining some of their 10+ year old honda's, the car is like new mechanically. And yet these people are targetted for the very same modifications. While other stock cars that likely have balding tires that are 10 years old, and suspension with shocks that are totally clapped out continue to run around totally free.

Now the flip side of this is also true, there are retarded drift slut owners (probably live in the valley and post daily on VCC), who drive stupid cars that probably should just be crushed. Yes, I'm sorry I said it, you loser with your zip tied bumper, and bandaid sticker overtop of your big dented quarter panel, your stupid 240sx deserves to be crushed into the size of an ice cube, and you should ride the bus.

So really until people stop being stupid, it's a free for all out here.

Spoiler!

AzNightmare 10-09-2018 08:00 PM

I just saw a somewhat stock looking silver Integra pulled over on Kingsway and Knight. The flashing police lights were quite blinding so I couldn't get a good look. I think I saw a guy hunched over checking out the wheel like if he was looking at the wheel gap or something. Maybe it was nothing more than a speeding incident, but I got paranoid and got the fk out of there .... LOL

I couldn't imagine putting a ton of money into a car and suddenly it's forced off the road and will cost me more money to have it back on the road.

I think I'll continue spending all my money on Nachos & Imodium

Anyone know what the "rule" is for fender gap? Can't seem to find it anywhere. Seems like cops would use the lack of fender gap to pull people over. My car is definitely not lower than the lowest part of my wheel (stated in the MVA), but i have a less than a finger fender gap.

JDMDreams 10-09-2018 11:23 PM

^^ I would like to know also

68style 10-10-2018 02:40 AM

Don’t quote me on it, but I believe there’s something in the MVA about how high the centre of your headlights are from the ground.

Hahahah, the internet detectives are out in force. Note the highlighted text above. Remember that the cop is there checking the ride in person. He's probably been following it and seeing sparks coming off the bottom every time it goes over a tiny bump in the road. You can't tell shit about the actual incident or particulars from pictures posted on the internet.
