Wow, while reading that story I could feel my blood pressure rising... until the poster said he recovered his video and had a dash cam to prove his innocence. Even with a complaint against the officers, I’m sure they’d just get a slap on the wrist if anything at all.

dvst8 02-22-2020 09:08 PM

If true, that story needs to go viral.....

fliptuner 02-22-2020 09:17 PM

I feel sorry for real cops.

Manic! 02-22-2020 09:46 PM

The video needs to be put online.

For real. I feel like the VPD has gone downhill ever since Jim Chu left.

I think these guys rolled up to the meet in Richmond this evening. 100% agree with you on deserving tickets. Hell I wish Richmond RCMP came around and started ticketing those guys.

They came to the meet to do little pulls and bang off the revlimiter, even when asked to stop, they'd just keep doing it. All of that just reminded me why fighting for this VI crap is pointless, cause I can definitely see how easy it is to label us all as bad apples, due to dumb fucks like those people.

Agreed, however why label us all together under the same category, right?

Just go for those d-bags who deserve these tickets, they only did it to themselves... If we're driving lawfully and not creating unnecessary nuisance for the public, why pick on us?

While I don't agree to jump into conclusions and assume stories would be made up (or exaggerated), it is rather surprising of the lack of videos considering all the stories there are. Or the fact that no one bothered to record anything apparently.

Maybe there's some advantage to withhold evidence to the public that I'm not thinking of.

GIZZ 02-23-2020 07:53 AM

2 more cars rolled into the shop this past week, box 2's.

I traded away my TBSS because it was too stressful driving into vancouver.

I've been building my civic around the motor vehicle handbook, it's totally legit. I have a feeling it being filthy may cause it to get pulled over. I really didn't want to wash it just yet. wwyd?

SumAznGuy 02-24-2020 09:42 AM

I don't mind it when cars like this get a VI.

Someone should forward this to the media and hope they run with it.

Hope the poster also goes through with the police complaint.

A driver who taped flashlights to their pickup truck when the headlights burnt out received a hefty fine from the Vancouver Police Department.

Sgt. Mark Christensen tweeted that traffic officers initially pulled the driver over for having an insecure load. But once they got a closer look, they realized the driver was using flashlights instead of headlights and taillights.

The vehicle also did not have insurance, and the driver failed to comply with a previous inspection order, Christensen said.

In all, the driver received $1,920 in fines and had their vehicle impounded.
Our "friend" Christensen going after the real problem cars. Not sarcasm. This is what the VI system should be for.

Exactly. VI should be for clearly dangerous vehicles that shouldn't be on the road... not well maintained sport cars.

Lol just clicked the Christiansen link and saw his photo. I went through a roadblock a few months back with him with during one of those cold spurts. Jokingly I commented about how he chose one of the coldest nights to stand out side. I got the “this isn’t cold” answer with such attitude. After his 25 seconds of explaining how he lived in the interior of BC blah blah blah, “I know what cold is.” With his silly reaction I had to one up him and decided to tell him how I’ve lived in Northern Manitoba and Nunavut, spent nights in homemade igloos... blah blah blah, “I don’t care what you say, it’s still cold here tonight, stay warm!” Lol. Just a bunch of power tripping dicks with chips on their shoulders.

But good on him for ticketing a true unsafe vehicle! Kudos

CorneringArtist 02-24-2020 01:08 PM

Mentioning this shit on Reddit means dealing with either bitter busriders or people interested in the issue. It's mostly the former that seem angry as fuck and would rather project their hatred onto me than engage in genuine discourse.

Agreed. However, if he didn't have an insecure load, he probably would not have gotten pulled over.

New Facebook group for VI's. Looks like a group of them are looking for a lawyer. Also, a number of businesses are posting on there showing support.

I submitted an FOI request to the VPD in early January, and the info I asked for came back today. So here are the statistics on the number of VIs -- or more formally, Notice & Order -- that the VPD has issued in 2019 (and 2018). The 2018 stats are gleaned from the CTV news report that came out last year. I am simply including them here for comparison purposes:

2018 total: 758
2019 total: 1544

The 2019 numbers are actually a touch lower than I was expecting, but there is no question that the VPD has started cracking down hard on VIs since Sept 2018, and is continuing with it to this date.

Swonz 02-25-2020 04:13 PM

I'm not sure if everyone has seen this yet but in May 2019, the VPD responded to our concerns. The response itself is quite concerning because it seems that they don't see a problem with the enforcement.

Holy shit, the boys been putting in work all year. Thanks for doing the request!! I wonder how difficult it would be to get the data broken down, box 1 vs 2, issuing officer, vehicle information, letc.

This response was written by a Staff Sergeant of VPD traffic, its exactly what should be expected. Its full of misinformation, and BS.
