I'm curious how a factory E46 M3, Z8, E9X M3, would test. As older cars typically have more displacement. I'm sure one of the dealers has a factory ones in their collection

Watch them ban these cars. Make the manufacturer comply with the noise guidelines or the cars will be unsellable. That would be a major backfire.
Gizz,
Every single one of those cars that underwent the test already complies with the ISO 5130 federal noise guidelines. Otherwise, it wouldn't have been possible for them to be on sale as street cars here in Canada. And that was the whole point of the PCA-CWR's complaint -- the VPD's street side noise testing is done incorrectly because the ISO 5130 standard requires controlled conditions that cannot be met in a road side test.
With the way the auto industry is heading though, high performance ICE cars are already heading the way of the dodo. The US and EU have already introduced legislations that ban the sale of new cars with non zero emissions, with some of those legislations coming into effect as early as 2030 (Germany, and potentially other EU countries as well) -- that's happening in less than 10 years! BC is supposed to transition into ever larger percentages of zero emission vehicles over multiple phases as well, with 2040 being the goal when all new car sales will be zero emission vehicles. EVs will not be making any exhaust noise at all.

is it net zero? can i buy carbon credits to offset the emissions? lol

I see it more likely that they will just not bother with roadside test and just give you a VI to prove your car is compliant based on their feeling that your car is too loud.
What needs to change isn't necessarily just the way they do roadside noise check, but needs to overhaul the VI system itself as the major issue with VIs is that they can issue it arbitrarily cause it's not safe for them to do a roadside inspection or that they don't have the tools to prove their suspicion.
Then even if you do the VI and get the sticker, them some other cop can come and say your decal is not valid cause they claim you must have modded your car again after getting it passed or you took it to a shady shop to do it and then send you off to another VI.
Saw 2 unmarked cop cars this morning in Richmond. A black rav4 and a dark blue rdx had a pickup pulled over and they were going through it. Not sure if that was a normal traffic stop or something more serious. Watch out for these cops cars if you’re in Richmond.
Know somebody who is an undercover RCMP officer here in the lower mainland. He often takes up their under cover cars to the interior to get servicing and work done at least once a month.
I always wondered why they don’t make undercover taxi’s. Like, it’s the ultimate sleeper. You expect a laptop/screen on the dash, a partition between the interior, a light box on the roof etc. You could even plaster the side with the non-emergency line for that local police.
I’ve been thinking of that for 15 years but they’ve never done it.

the altima's have been around for a long time, but yeah theyre getting pretty sneaky.
interior rcmp have some slick undercover trucks. often includes headache racks or the Dakine tailgate pads
Just saw a car pulled over on Marine Drive near Cambie last night by an unmarked Sienna. They are getting really sneaky. They've moved up from the Caravan to the Sienna I guess.
Judging from the activity in this thread, is this pretty much a dead issue now?
After the Porsche Club's monumental effort in calling the VPD out, I'd like to think that the police has at least toned down their enforcement a bit. They are still nailing people with VI, but based on what I have seen, the cars they catch now are generally more overtly modded. Loud exhaust continues to be something that would catch their attention.
So I am hoping that at least for the OEM+ crowd, they'd be safer from harassment compared to before?
