I've had this debate with many ppl and you are right.
What's even worse is that look at states like California. During peak energy usage, they have rolling black outs because the energy usage is too great during the middle of a heat wave and everyone is home with their AC's on.

I think this is more likely unless they can find a better way to store energy while using less of the metals that they currently use now.

Plug-in Hybrids are great, every Tesla that rolls off the factory floor we have enough battery capacity for 10 plug-ins and saves way more in emissions. We are nowhere close to being able to roll out all EV in the next 30 years, not when people treat range like they do trucks. The more the better even though they won't use even 10% of it on a daily.

It's the mentality.
For over 100 years, people went to the gas station to fill up their tanks, not get 80% of their tanks filled.
Plus, you have the occasional cheapie that wants every last nickel and dime and must get their EV charged to 100% even though it takes an hr to get the last 5% charge.

I have a standard 40 kwh Leaf and never have range anxiety. But I do agree, I would need a ICE vehicle if I was to drive to Kelowna or further.
I've taken the leaf to Whistler, stopped off in Squamish for dinner and a quick charge and all was good.

Maybe eventually people will catch on to the fact that it's way cheaper to have a little city car daily and just rent something big for the one or two roadtrips a year that they do.

Never understood why people never discuss this fact. There is definitely a finite resource equation here that does not allow for 100% EV feasibility on the roads, that point is never discussed.

The hybrid model seems to be the most realistic here, we just need to see them lower in cost to see more on the road overall.

For those of you not on the Automotive Alliance FB group, an FRS that got a VI 2-3 weeks ago got pulled over in east van. $2k tickets and box 1 as usual, but this time Cain is keeping the car for up to 90 days and inspecting it at a shop of his choosing. Car seems like it is basically stock with aftermarket DOT/SAE lights.

Dude definitely pissed off Cain lol.

The grid may not be able to handle it but majority of Canadians want an electric car. The price of a Tesla Model 2 when released should around the same price as a Civic. Who is going to want a Civic over a Tesla?

https://www.newswire.ca/news-release...889637501.html

Quote:
The next new vehicle purchase for nearly 70 per cent of Canadians will be an electric model: KPMG in Canada survey. ORONTO, Feb. 25, 2021 /CNW/ - Seven in 10 Canadians (68 per cent) who plan to buy a new vehicle within the next five years are likely to buy an electric vehicle (EV), either pure or hybrid, although the lack of a robust charging infrastructure, battery life and range and the purchase price remain persistent concerns, finds a new survey by KPMG in Canada.

"Canada's automotive industry is nearing the tipping point, with nearly 70 per cent of Canadians indicating that they're looking to buy an electric vehicle not in a decade's time but in the next five years," says Peter Hatges, Partner, National Sector Leader, Automotive, KPMG in Canada. "Our poll research illustrates huge consumer demand in Canada for EVs, putting the onus on manufacturers and governments alike to shift gears not only to meet the expected surge in EV sales but to invest heavily in the necessary infrastructure."

Ford is going all electric in Europe by 2030.

https://www.ctvnews.ca/autos/ford-is...2030-1.5312198

Audi going all electric by 2030.

https://driving.ca/audi/auto-news/ne...ustion-engines

Jaguar all electric by 2025
https://driving.ca/jaguar/auto-news/...-range-by-2030

Many other companies are doing the same.

By 2035 the only people buying gas cars are going to be people that can't afford an electric car. By 2050 the only people buying gas cars are going to be the rich who can afford to run and maintain them.

You are correct.

I am not 100% certain, but it might have a turbo under the hood too.

It never ceases to amaze me how "pretty much stock" a car is when someone says that...

But I will say that aesthetically, the car is nicely done up.

Going off on a tangent for this thread, but reminds me of cellphone charging. Who else starts getting battery anxiety when their phone hits below 70% charge like I do?

Yeah it's tamer than what I thought.

I mean I was picturing a rocket bunny monstrosity with a chassis mount wing, and blast pipes.

The headlights look like OEM projectors that are painted inside?

I'd be intrigued if the tail lights are just smoked, or what the deal is. Suspension looks stock, and wheels are stock.

LOL, there was so much arguing on FB that his headlights and taillights were just black housing, now they are smoked?
