They never advertise vpd or rcmp out to get you for VIs either. I'm pretty sure these guys have the power to give you a box 1, 2, 3. A VI is an inconvenience but a 40 kms over impound would bother me more.

My friends (silver) E46 M3 with just exhaust and one turn signal burnt got Box 1 on Marine and Victoria. It has coils, but it's at stock height, and height isn't mentioned on the N&O

Jmanhas in the AW E46 M3 got Box 2 yesterday. SGT SCZA muffler on this one. I had this, it was pretty tame.

Imagine impounding a car cause it sounded a bit noisy and thinking you've made a positive difference in your city.

The conditions and guidelines on what they consider box 1 worthy is completely stupid. There's no consistency or any form or criteria. An exhaust and burnt turn signal does not validate a box 1... Because if that's the case, 9/10 cars I saw just on my 20 min drive just now should be taken off the road.

VPD's own internal operations manual states a Box 1 is to be issued only when vehicle is "found not to be roadworthy (one or more critical safety items are in extreme dis-repair)".

box 3 = minor defect(s) that do not affect the safe operation of the vehicle (e.g. worn tire(s) in the summer, inoperative signals, inoperative brake lamps)

box 2 = When a member believes a vehicle should undergo a complete inspection due to the number of deficiencies or the severity of the deficiency
