Thanks BIC_BAWS for trying to do things the correct way. Honestly, putting out this story from a "car enthusiast POV" will garner little sympathy from the public. If done from a consumer-rights point of view it will be much more effective, so looking for those unmodified/close to unmodified vehicles is the right way to approach this. |

please please please dont talk any of the shit about dukkakee in your report bicbaws. its completley hearsay and irrelevant in the reality of the situation we all face. |
Was sweating bullets after work when a bike cop cruised next to me... good thing I raised the car and fitted my LS mesh rims over the weekend. :lawl: |
updated 4:30pm granville bridge south bound. CHRISTENSSEN and 3 cops radaring / lazering oncoming traffic. Avoid that area at all cost |

Update 4: Just got off the phone with the reporter. Here is what I need you guys to do:
It will be a 1:30 TV interview with a maximum of 2 people. The vehicle will be shown, which is why Skunkworkz is automatically out for this. I'm going to try to see if his story will still work with pictures. There is potential for submitted dashcam videos to be posted as a followup (or followup interviews). Points Discussed: We discussed the below points. Thank you so much mj_39 for providing such a good summary. Quote:
This was a strong talking point because police officers are held to a higher standard. They are expected to be understanding and to be able to de-escalate situations. While many are just following orders, the expectations are in their job descriptions. This is not happening. It is concerning that citizens cannot freely speak to police officers or ask questions without the officers reacting in an aggressive manner or issuing stricter penalties. I also briefly discussed - out of my own opinion - the current situation of Georgia v Montana LLC. This is related because in the same case, PDs/Govs turned a blind eye to the issue of modified vehicles for a number of years. I believe that if the community was given a warning to comply, many would comply. Instead, we are given forced inspections. Unfortunately I also had to discuss what sparked me into making the initial post and thus had to talk about the alleged disrespectful actions of Dukkake. Lastly, someone, please, volunteer. We are finally given a chance to voice our stories and be heard. This issue goes beyond you and me. I'd want my younger brother and his friends to be able to enjoy being a car enthusiast, without being labeled as a criminal. If you have concerns about volunteering, you can feel free to PM me/Email me/Post here and I'll direct them to the reporter. The reporter mentioned that unless your car looks really modified, it shouldn't be an issue with the public. It really comes down to how well the public resonates with what you're saying. "It's not just the car, it's the person too." |
thks bic_baws for initiating the process, i really hope somebody can step up for the car community and do this... |

did she/he store that in a salt mine or something? |
Like Bic (and much props to him) said we want someone who got VI'd to step up and pave the way for a safer car community which in turn could be our little brother or family member or in my case my sons. If i had my ride still (hell even in any car )and I got vi'd id definitely talk to the reporter. Put it this way...if our parents/grandparents/ancestors didn't pave the way for us to live a better life in a free country. we'd be in a third world country walking or riding bicycles. Why is it so hard for some of us to do the little thing that matters for something that isn't even as life changing as moving halfway around the world with little to no money. (they did it to give us and future generations a better chance at life so why cant we do it for a chance at a better community?) Sure i get it, theres concern there might be retaliation (or there might not be this isnt the cold war) and sure in some cultures its all about privacy and preservation of self and family and the avoiding of stigma/embarassment etc. Not gonna lie watching this thread I feel like there's this woman and shes being a tease.with my favorite cake and has it in front of my face and shes making like shes gonna feed it to me, and every time i check the thread I thinnk this is it, shes gonna put it in, but thats it nada....so wtf guys I love dessert. Just man up so she can put the dessert in already. and screwwhat people do after the fact because in the end you and I, and i'm pretty sure most of the people out there, car enthusiasts or not, know you're doing the right thing) Give us all satisfaction please (of wiping the smugness off their faces and stopping this abuse). @Bic_Baws we really appreciate the hard work and time you've put in for something that we believe in and I'm in no way trying to belittle the fact you are doing this, so carry on.My kids will know what you have been trying to achieve, and that I can promise you. TL;DR pised at uselessness and stagnation appreciate Bic_baws' hard work. Don;t waste Bic_baws hard work. Man up and suck it. car community and every person victimized wins. Spoiler! |
Look I really do appreciate Mr Baws work and he’s fighting a good fight, But i value my family's security and anonymity a lot. I work in the ports and I don’t need everyone to know I drive a Mas. Ive never driven it to work (I always drove a beater car to work since they pay me a lease allowance.) I don’t need the aggravation if my boss sees me on the nightly news QQing about my Maserati. It doesn’t send the right message. Nor do I want to be named and identified when I drive that thing around. Like I said before the general public ain’t going to identify with a Chinese guy driving an exotic. Your average Vancouverite is going to be “fuck you, you rich prick. go suck a vpd dick and shaddup” There’s people in this city just barely getting by and here I am on tv complaining they are targeting us and specifically my god damn car. If they VI my volkswagen I’ll jump on for sure. But this car really sends the wrong message and I’m sure I’ll get hassled to death by the vpd if I go on the teley. I still wanna drive my maz to Vancouver occasionally. |
I don't blame Badhobz. Let's be honest, everyone (the general public) hates mainlanders and their exotic cars. Most people don't know that a Maz could be a 10 or 11 yo car worth 30-40K now. Hell, people think that a S2000 or E46 M3 is worth 5K :fulloffuck: There's also the factor that out of all the 38 pages here, there's not that many people that got VI'd. There's a lot of noise, so if you're not willing to step up, help me find the right people. With over 100K views in a month, we definitely have the attention of many people. Honestly, doing the interview would help this cause a lot. But if you don't want to, I get it. At the very least, spread this issue around to your networks. We just need to find the right people. Of the people that I reached out to, some share the same concern as Badhobz on backlash, some share the concern that the public won't understand their car (jdm) or the rules, others have the concern that their cars are actually beyond the mva (lots of negative camber). I think all those concerns are fair. For backlash, yeah you're right, it could be a good or bad look from an employers perspective. On one hand, you're standing up for the greater good. On the other hand, car enthusiasts - to most people, are like gang members. Most people don't understand. However as for VPD backlash? I doubt it. If you got VI'd already (which are the people we're looking for) and passed (with/without minimum fixes), it's unlikely they would target you because of the interview. Why? Well, it brings more evidence that they're doing it out of spite and there's a clear lack of knowledge. For the concern of the public being unsympathetic, cars actually modified, jdm cars, or the public not knowing the rules. True. I shared that concern with the reporter and she mentioned that it's not just the car that sells the public - it's also your story. There is more than one method of story telling here (see mj_39's summary). I think the focus should be on professionalism - not enthusiasts being targeted. Again, the question has to be raised, why does asking a question or being understandably upset result in stricter penalties, answers of "check the MVA/law", or aggression from the LEO involved? I'm going to be reaching out to the Abarth pistons guy. He said on his YT channel that he passed inspection, with raising the car above factory specs. Exhaust was legal. |

Interested to see where this goes. I would volunteer but a) didn't get a VI and b) I no longer live in BC. And unfortunately because I am a LEO I don't think this would be the best decision for me career-wise. That being said, if I spoke to a member of the public in the manner similar to these VPD officers, and a supervisor heard, or a recording was made public, I would be looking at a 3-day unpaid vacation for sure.... |

I appreciate the hard work that LEOs make for the community. It's not an easy job by far. I've had my fair share of interactions with LEOs and of all those that I've met, they are all great people. Some are car enthusiasts like yourself (the prev owner of my car is a LEO lol) and others aren't but are very understanding. I hope that for all those watching this thread, know that our intention isn't "fuck the police" or whatever stupid immature bullshit that millennials and gen x spew. Simply, we are just asking for checks and balances. Questions should be asked and answers should be given. Ultimately, that is the only way for there to be accountability. Tone Loc, thank you very much for your service. And I find it hilarious that you drive a hotboi car like the FK8 CTR lol. Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk |
I'm sorry, late night and all. I wasn't attacking anyone specifically just a general let's be men. My apologies if anyone felt that way. What really set me off was here we have a thread with a game plan but some people's posts in here is setting us back (in my eyes at least) and don't need to be in here for public viewing, where do you think people are going to look when this goes to media? In here, so seriously that 1% needs to take a breath and stop it cuz u making the 99%of us look like idiots |
Thanks BIC_BAWS. Appreciate the due diligence. Fighting !! +oil. |

I believe that part of law enforcement's job is to educate people. And becoming aggressive when a member of the public is being polite and has an honest question about what is taking place garners zero respect from me. Granted, I wasn't there for the interactions that were recorded. Maybe there is more to the story. But if what people are saying are true, those officers' attitudes do not represent all of us. As for my FK8... a Type R has been my dream car since I discovered my brother's secret stash of Super Street and Sport Compact Car magazines (remember when every other page was a half naked woman? Hence why it was hidden) back in the mid- to late 90s. Believe me when I say I get chirped for it at work often. Most of my coworkers are truck folks.... |
Does VPD chilled out a bit, or put everybody underground? Had not heard about new VIs for 2 weeks. |
I think the VPD will finally chill out during the winter/cold weather period when people have raised their ride height, swapped to winter tires or are driving their winter beaters around. |

Also I've heard that instead of giving VIs they're giving excessive and evading tickets now LOL. So if they can't give you a VI they're giving you the latter. Not sure how many cases of this tho. |
