Is the tire shop legally allowed to chuck those tires away?

No, a shop cannot legally refuse the vehicle to go back on the road even if safety is a concern. In my years in the auto industry, I've seen people leave with brakes on the backing plate, cords on tires showing, fluids leaking like a sieve, suspension parts that are hanging by a thread, just to name a few.

bigzz786786 11-21-2018 07:25 PM

^this is true. When i was working for a dealership, we could only recommend what needs to be done for it to be road safe, write it on the communication and have them sign it fully knowing our recommendation and that once they leave those doors, it's solely on the vehicle owner if something were to happen.

The absolutely most common recommendation is that they need knew tires, I've seen so many cars with 2/32 tred. Second most common would be grooved rotors or rotors with hotspots/warping when all they want is brake pads done.

7 times out of 10, the customer ignores the warning.

AzNightmare 11-21-2018 08:18 PM

lol.. I guess that makes sense. I remember the dealer tried to charge me $25 to replace my burnt out brake bulb. I refused of course and then immediately went to Canadian Tire 5 mins away and replaced the bulb myself for $5...

Different severity, but I guess similar principle.

Still the slammed vinyl wrapped g37x with huge wing I do believe

ricecookerboi 11-22-2018 06:18 AM

same car, completely stock beside wing.

And no driving like A hole. Was parked, dropping girl off in outside parking lot.

Thank god no VI again, but he read all my N/O without me telling him when he was walking to my car i was surprised.

Anyways, meh I guess it's not just vpd, I guess rcmp is slowly getting into this I think in my opinion. Will update full video clip shortly.

Gerbs 11-22-2018 07:45 AM

You took out your suspension / wheels / exhaust / wrap?

That sucks. I'd just go completely stock and take off the wing at that point.

yray 11-22-2018 08:00 AM

inb4 puts everything back on except wing, passes by police with flying colors

So what did he actually stop you for?

At this point, might just simply be your big wing attracting all the attention.
When you say completely stock, vinyl wrap all gone too?

Nlkko 11-22-2018 09:00 AM

Uninstall your park bench. -50% heat points.

Vinyl wrap and wing is legal though right?

westopher 11-22-2018 09:39 AM

According to these cops all modifications are illegal so it doesn’t matter anymore what’s legal or not. They are out to fuck up peoples days and make it look like they are doing something, and it’s working.

While legal, it was most likely the wing that attracted the cop. He said he was parked.

Do RCMP and VPD have access to each other's files when they scan plates? By now, his plates have a long history of VI's. The cop could have simply saw the wing, decided to run the plates, and then go confront his parked car.

Yes they do. During a situation that resulted in my plates being called in for being noisy when they were two other straight piped cars the VPD officer ran my license and it shows every time you've made contact with the police, if you called the police it shows the reason, if someone else calls it also shows the reason, but its a generic reasoning. One of my calls was a "Complaint" because I was getting tailgated to the point where the guy almost rear ended my car while cruising in the right lane on HWY 99.

Ive been driving around surrey with my n1 catback exhaust, no problem at all. A guy from my facebook group stated that “a buddy of mine is dating a vpd and n1 exhaust are their subject when exhaust are brought up.” But I just came from burnaby library and all the way back to surrey, I passed by a vpd @kingsway/10th and good thing nothing happened.

TBH Surrey RCMP is focusing on other things than loud cars.

Which is good! Coz my stock exhaust is rusted and i dont have enough budget to buy myself a stock exhaust again

AzNightmare 11-23-2018 12:23 PM

Not that this really changes the predicament we're all in.

But it's not as bad as some of you make it sound. Like the minute you step into Vancouver, you're done. Some of us don't actually have a choice with a second "civilized" vehicle and are stuck in Vancouver like, 99.9% cause they live and work there. lol.. if that's not bad enough, I actually drive by the VPD HQ every day...

Just saying,... *knock on wood.*

But it really is just a small group of officers running this charade. I'm just trying to put things in perspective so people can feel a bit easier going out on the road and not feel like they have to be on the lookout constantly like a criminal the minute they enter Vancouver.

Don't get me wrong though, I'm not saying this doesn't matter. Of course, for those who are in the process of trying to fight this, please continue, because it would really help the whole community and we all appreciate it.

Apparently not as many VIs on west side and richmond so there's that. Or I've just been lucky. Also don't drive during rush hour when they apparently get most people so they can walk through traffic?

Knock on wood.

twitchyzero 11-23-2018 07:28 PM

exactly, as long as you don't have noticable spoilers, tints on windows and lights, exhausts, and wheels/ride height i think you're pretty much safe

i rarely leave Vancouver and Burnaby pass by VPD marked and unmarked basically daily and go through the occasional road blocks, never have an issue (headlamps retrofitted, yellow DRLs, drive slightly on the aggressive side)

granted, i don't encounter traffic eforcement on motorcycle often

This would be the "lightly modified" for most people, which includes many people on this thread.

It's insane that they would VI for wheels.
