i agree his suggestion for future crossings is ridiculous, but not every agent is a car guy that knows how custom ride heights work

when I cross with expensive items that's fairly new looking ie watch, camera, handbag, in the back of my mind i'm thinking about an order confirmation e-mail i can whip up from the past on the phone should i need to prove it wasn't just purchased

anyways, back to the VI non-sense. this thread has gotten pretty quiet, maybe it bolds well for the new year

No issues with my straight piped 750. Only got a "nice exhaust" and "is that really a V12?" from the border officer haha

This is now the official crossing the border with your mod car thread.

Or no ones driving their cars since it’s 6 degrees and a monsoon.

The latest victim -- an NA Miata w/ some sort of roll bar:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/Vanc...6981402902958/

Specifically, the items cited are:

- body / frame: check roll cage and welds into frame for compliance
- suspension: rear wheels illegally cambered

From the pictures, I can't say the owner is "innocent" on the rear wheels part. It is really sticking a bit beyond the fender even with the fender flares, even though that isn't the charge he is slapped with. I am still sorry the guy got tagged for it though.

The roll cage bit really surprised me though, and I need to go through the MVA again to see what kind of rules there may or may not be to regulate them. Is anyone familiar with roll bar/cage rulle at all?

Link photos for us who don’t hve Facebook?

Don't know how to directly embed them as pics in the forum, but you should be able to see the pics when you click on the link even without a FB account.

Try that.

Any pics of the roll cage?

Or you mean he got a VI simply for having one?

Zedbra 12-19-2018 02:03 PM

Been having to drive my truck through Vancouver a bunch lately and I feel like a champ getting through unscathed. Even was sitting next to a VPD car today that was checking out my truck as we barely moved through traffic on Seymour.

I have a random question for you guys. Seems like people in here know the MVA pretty well. Aside from getting a VI within minutes, are snow tracks legal for public roads in B.C.? I assume they’re fine on FSR’s and off road, but say you lived up north and actually got 5’ of snow for 6 months a year, are snow track systems legal for on road use?

There is a company with a sense of humour who will actually make it for your awd car. I asked about the legality and I got a grey area response like “it’s not DOT approved since snow track systems are unregulated and there isn’t anything in legislation to approve or disapprove them” . I googled and got bubkis

Just get some stickers made for them that say DOT APPROVED FOR ROAD USE

Stay off Kingsway/Boundary Rd tonight :'(

Box 2 in a slightly lowered rhd Subaru Legacy, on Kingsway. Aftermarket muffler that is very quiet compared to most Subaru's (came on the car). They pulled over a Mustang right after. Skyline pulled over around the corner on Boundary, flatbed already on site.

Pic for reference, we were on our way to wash it

Jaffray 12-19-2018 07:58 PM

passed by the grey R34 heading southbound home right after kingsway on boundary, poor skyline. appeared to be just lowered but was pretty dark around there

Apparently a grey R34 was stolen recently, it might be that?

Pretty sure the guy was looking to VI people and not looking for stolen vehicles like he should.

What were you booked for? Vehicle lowered? Loud exhaust? Who is the officer that pulled you over?

From your picture, it doesn't seem like the lowest part of your vehicle is lowered than the bottom of the wheels, and that is how the MVA defines whether ride height is legal or not. But if you have stuff hanging under the car, and those are lower than the bottom of the wheels, then you're hooped.

Exhaust noise is a tough one because the MVA wording is quite vague. It does indicate in Division 7, Section 27 that at an inspection station, the engine and exhaust noise levels cannot exceed 83dB for light duty vehicles, and 83dB is very quiet.

wow if that subie is VI material, i am doomed

gramser57 12-19-2018 09:37 PM

Heading northbound in my civic on Main and 41st today, unmarked SUV pulled up beside me as I hit a red light on 33rd. Officer held up traffic and waited until I accelerated, thank god I slapped my stock exhaust, wheels and raised it a bit or else it might have been a different outcome.

Owner here:

I got pulled over for 'apparent mods' at about Kingsway/Knight

Was not ticketed or fined but given a Box 2 for:
- Full inspection of safety systems & meets OEM standard (Officer questioned my OEM Momo steering wheel as being aftermarket and not having an airbag)
- I had a copy of the 2013 Provincial inspection with the windshield decal adhered to the back which was expired (& moot by this point, but..) as the expired decal was not on the windshield that had since been replaced, that's illegal
- Aftermarket exhaust (Muffler only that came on the car & honestly one of the quietest ones I've heard)
- Check all exterior lights/reflectors for DOT markings (All are present and officer stated couldn't see in the light as was dark)
- Ride height (Doesn't believe that there's 1" of clearance between tires and fender)
- Front mounted license place is angled (True, can adjust to correct)

I've owned the car for 5 years and 3 days since it was imported in 2013. I've also been pulled over in Victoria where I'm from originally and never had an issue with the same mods. The car also has stock size winter snow tires on currently.

I don't have a photo on current winters, but as you can see the gap really isn't so questionable that they could see from so far away (me thinks).

This should not be an offence. There is nothing in the MVA that states the tires need to have at least 1" of clearance between itself and the fender.

It's marked on the VI as 'must meet OEM/DOT clearance (down arrow) 1" (symbol that appears to represent between) tire/fender'
