Hi all, so I've been lurking this thread for awhile and just wanted to reveal that I got a Box 2 VI from Cain himself earlier today in front of my house after he followed me from Victoria Drive. Car appeared as follows: https://imgur.com/a/BrGFwJk https://imgur.com/a/3zUVtSk
VI notice states loud exhaust when under load, but is a car not always under load when the gas is pressed? he read my car as 89 dB @ 2500 rpm, but I'm not sure how far he measured it from, and he even mentioned that my car isn't that loud but is "too loud when driving around".
I suggest you bring your vehicle back to Lotus Vancouver and have them pay for your inspection. They are a part of Weissach, and as such, do provincial vehicle inspections. If they do not pay for it, they should also then be reported to the CVSE with your inspection as proof.
Debating whether to keep a tape measure in the car.

Is there a point though? Would this really help to fight against getting a VI on the spot? Cause wouldn't it be about as effective as having a print out of the MVA so you can quote it in front of Cain's face?
I mean, I'm all for this if this will actually work... but something tell's me Cain's making up his own rules on the spot here..
/inb4 he tells you your decibel meter isn't "certified" and your tape measure is not as accurate as his measurement by eye.

That sounds like a great idea, unfortunately ossifer Cain himself ordered me to bring it to an authorised Toyota dealership so I'm not sure if that will flow over well for him..
Yea, you guys with minimal mods really need to write in complaints.
Hey guys, If you have a dash cam, I'd suggest you to question the officer when they pull you over to ask exactly whats wrong with your car. If he says he'll test your exhaust DB levels, ask and confirm what he will do so it will all be recorded as evidence.
He's totally changing up his "tests" depending on each occasion. This is unfair, we don't deserve to be treated like this. I can't believe the no one in the department is speaking up. What kinda bullshit contradiction is "he even mentioned that my car isn't that loud but is "too loud when driving around".
This guy doesn't want to lose face for falsely pulling someone over so he'll pull a VI out of his ass.
Have been planning to file a complaint as soon as this inspection passes, cause if Toyota is fine with the car as is, then we've got a problem here, and it's not the car.
Do not have a dash cam and did not think to record as I was just having a "this is really happening" moment, but I was stupid not to have. He is definitely modifying his approach to these tests on a per-vehicle basis though, as determined by other VI victim testimonies. Don't even question the "not too loud but is too loud while you're driving" it's bullshit.

I think what he meant is that Lotus technically sold you a non-road legal vehicle (under Cains "MVA"), hence they should reimburse you for your inspection at Toyota (designated by Cain) because when you bought your car at Lotus, it is implied that the vehicle is road legal or written in the contract.
Basically Lotus sold you something that was not disclosed in the contract (that being the car not being road legal) hence you can either revoke your purchase of the car, ask for reimbursement of the inspection (when you pass), or have them make it road legal by providing OEM parts, since they technically misinformed you or hid information from you during purchase in regards to the vehicle.
Im not a lawyer so do not take my word for it, i am just implying what i think i know and this is all implying if Cain was correct.

I think that's a good idea. Don't go into Lotus guns blazing, just go in and say you were given a VI for a car they sold you. How can they help out?
They charge such a premium on their cars there, hopefully they have the service to back it up.

Like I said, it probably won't help. I wanted one also to confirm for myself what the dBs are to correspond with what the shop said and it matches. I can confirm my dBs are under 83.
what about guys that come up from WA for car meets? can they be issued VI?
It's been addressed a little earlier in the thread and the answer is yes. But it's a ridiculously cunty move and a lot more headache (I think) on their end.

I bought my Focus ST brand new off the lot with the front windows tinted, got a box 2 the following day.
Dealerships have been doing it for ages. Look at all the jacked up 1500's and diesels. I test drove a F350 with a 6-8" lift and 37's.
This entire VI business is a fucking scam. I'm gonna start collecting VINs if I ever move back to BC.
This is now getting beyond ridiculous... I see this as an abuse of power now... Complete stock car with only modified exhaust system and aftermarket tails...

That is not the point. They should still have to pay for it. Stuart in the service department runs the Weissach service department, and you should go straight to him with your VI notice. He will tell you that they can inspect your car for you no problem, and if he says any different, request that they pay for Toyota to inspect it, and and fees regarding swapping on the oem exhaust. If they deny you any of this, leave a Google review for both Lotus Vancouver and Weissach, and contact the Vehicle Sales Authority to get involved, as well as the CVSE.

Sounds like a solid plan, thank you for the advice and sorry for misunderstanding your intentions earlier. Will try and contact Lotus in person during lunch today since I work 3 minutes away, will definitely update after.

Don't lose sight of the real enemy here, guys. It's not Toyota or Lotus. Just keep that in mind.

But hopefully it comes to that because then it'll be affecting dealers and they are big enough to make a difference with VPD. These cases are probably more effective than personal modified ones. The ones who bought modified cars from dealers should raise a complaint.
I stay out of vancouver. A couple of my favorite restaurants are there and I'm to scared to goto them because of Officer Cain. You guys think if we can make businesses understand they're losing money because people arent coming into the city, if they'd pressure the VPD to back down?

only if they serve tuna sandwich, no crust
i doubt they'd be hurting for business that much, you're better off trying tuner shops that install wheels, big wangs and exhausts

i'm really curious if his exhaust is even signficantly louder than stock, this is one of teh few cases where i give the owner reasonable doubt based on his photo of stock errthang else even the wheels and ride height

Restaurants for me were just an example. I mean all the businesses that are losing money. Even alittle money means alot for some of the smaller shops I goto.

I do have the NightRunner sticker on my rear window at the top, a peeking safety shiba on my passenger window, and a Never Content cat on my rear left side window, but Cain said nothing about those. Or my valentis.
