I'm still curious how he claims it was a mistake...

320icar 02-04-2019 03:07 PM

I did something similar back in the day by total accident. Had a car I could never get to pass aircare. Eventually just gave it to a shop to fix the issues and get it to pass (which they did). Eventually went to sell the car, transferred ornwership and all that then the guy tried to insure it and ICBC said no, it can’t be insured because it didn’t have aircare. Both of us were confused.

Turns out they had a rule where if you spent $xxx money trying to get it to pass and it still didn’t, they would give you a conditional Pass (that was not transferrable). They shop didn’t tell me that, they said it passed! So thankfully icbc let the new owner insure it.

THAT BEING SAID being pulled over and being given a VI, you know exactly what you’re doing....

underscore 02-04-2019 06:31 PM

The only way I can think of it being a mistake is if the owner before Jonathan Ting got a box 2 and sold it to him before the 30 days was up. Then I'm assuming he had it less than a year and never got pulled over before selling it to the current owner. But even that I'm not entirely sure is possible depending on whether a VI prevents you from getting full insurance within the 30 day window or not.

stiff suspension is a thing?

AzNightmare 02-04-2019 11:10 PM

Lol, suspension too stiff? Did the cop hop in for a test drive and took it over some potholes or did he push down on the hood and trunk and tried to see how the car bounces? :derp:

RevYouUp 02-04-2019 11:31 PM

What is "just right" suspension ??? LOL

I haven't entered Vancouver in a few months.

But fecesbook is an endless pit of human misery and dispare.

FB Marketplace is also impossible to navigate and most of the stuff FB auto-edits (trans, mileage, price, model name, etc) is wrong so half the time you have no clue what you're looking at.

jnesss 02-05-2019 05:23 PM

this afternoon, saw delta police pulling over a black g35 sedan on 120th. driver had chrome wheels and an aftermarket exhaust that stuck out pretty far and angled upwards. cop paced between his suv and the g35 several times, eyeballing that exhaust pretty hard. cop had what appeared go be a metal box in hand, db tester? no test was performed, they both drove off after a couple minutes.

That's the first time I've heard of someone using that name. I'm gonna be using that from now on :lawl:

And this is why it's full of good deals.

underscore 02-05-2019 06:13 PM

If you're just bumbling through not intending to find anything sure, if you're intentionally looking for stuff it's absolute garbage. Especially if you scroll too far and don't notice, then get excited you found what you were looking for only to find out it's in Alberta or some shit.

How many cars have you picked up off of FB marketplace?

A few friends of mine have picked up some really good deals on cheap WRX's and Foresters. I'm a Subaru guy so I usually keep an eye out for Subarus and Subaru Parts. I'm talking about sub-$1500 WRXs and foresters (with headgaskets done) that have checked out good. I've personally picked up cheap wheels and accessories. Full yakima aero roof set for $100, JDM sti wheels for $200 etc.

There are good and bad things about having sales tied to your personal account, but I haven't had any bad experiences yet. Unlike Craigslist where you have people fake-lowball you and never reply, deals are bit more personal. Kind of like buying from a forum where you can view the history of the seller.

Love ior hate Facebook, there are deals to be had on there. A deal is a deal :)

westopher 02-05-2019 08:27 PM

Strikes me as cars that would trade hands between younger people though, although that's changing over time as well.
I got a great deal on a set of coils for my wagon on there. Its fucking garbage to use though. I searched Porsche 911, and like 14 cars down was a pt cruiser, a vacuum, some fucking goalie pads, a fan, etc.

hud 91gt 02-05-2019 09:07 PM

I’ve started searching Facebook marketplace more and more. Seems to be a different crowd (young people or stay at home moms) advertising versus craigslist. I also like how it stalks me and knows what I like. I mostly use the search function for keywords.

Facebook Marketplace > Velocity motors

It just sucks because he bought the car and now he has to put more money in it to fix it up

That's pretty much standard procedure with Velocity. Sell overpriced junk pile to horny fanboy while not disclosing half the things it needs.

And don't ever shit talk that company because they'll threaten a lawsuit against you! Bunch of cabbages.

Well to be fair in this situation, the things he has to spend money on are stock parts. If he didn't get a VI, he would probably just continue as is.
