need a new (used) phone
 

I'm not into paying $800+ or what ever it'll cost for a brand new phone

i currently have an old Samsung s5 and it's dying a slow miserable death

i have an s8 for work so i know the phone but not looking to pay $700 or risk buying a "new" one on CL and have it be fake (how can i tell?)

so realistically looking at an s7 or what else would you recommend? no iphones

It's targeted, but most people on Koodo's been able to get the S8 for $0 on a a medium tab. Pretty much $360 + tax is your total cost.

I picked up a lightly used S7 for $250, they seem to land in the $200-300 range depending on condition. The seller was in Maple Ridge but it was listed on eBay so I've got the backup of eBay and PayPal if there had been something fucky about the phone.

Wait for black Friday. Also, ebay has 10% to 15% off coupons that come out all the time.

Right now, you can get an S8 from Koodo for $360 all in by opening an account, paying off the tab balance, then closing it.

S5 can swap new battery and install new rom. I still have my Note 2 with new battery and LineageOS installed, it still solid as fuck. Recently, my A9 Pro (2016) got new battery and new rom, it can last 3 days without charging and the UI is still smooth like new.

The only cell phone that went into the garbage bin was the LG G4 with a dead circuit board, most of my phones either got sold at good price or still working fine.
