The new mazda is awesome for family car, but it doesn't offers options like turbo, AWD, 7-10spd auto

1/4 panel looks like the alfa

Rumors are that the next gen 3 will offer AWD in North America. The JDM model offered it for the previous generation as well.

In terms of 7-10 speed auto, if you drive Mazda's Skyactiv auto, it is full lockup after 1st gear and has quite quick shifts.

The Mazda 6 2.5T + 6 speed combo was also tuned for passing performance (which is faster than Accord 2.0T and 10 speed auto). 0-60 times are definitely not as great though.

twitchyzero 11-27-2018 10:52 PM

Speed 3 with AWD please, so it can play with the Golf R and FoRS etc.

LuHua 11-28-2018 04:46 AM

Runs a torsion beam rear though. Also read up on Skyactiv X, they’re aiming for lean burn and diesel-style autoignition. Pretty interesting

Man, the sedans look WAY better than the hatch. Something about the back end on the hatch just doesn't jive for me.

I would agree, the sedan is basically a baby 6 which is perfect.

Is it the rear doors and the awkward looking C pillar area?

The concept looks alright, I wouldnt say it was weird but in the production model it just doesn't work

Liquid_o2 11-28-2018 09:56 AM

It's almost too much C-pillar. The shape sort of reminds me of the Tesla Model X.

Badhobz 11-28-2018 10:58 AM

Love the sedan. Hatch looks weird.

How's the reliability been on these skyactive engines ? Might get this for the next work car

Mazda has stated that they don't want to get into the downsized turbo craze, which I can respect. Their answer is the Skyactiv-X 2.0, which delivers similar performance as Skyactiv-G 2.5.

They might start offering AWD as they are trying to go upmarket. 3 and 6 are both available in AWD in other markets, just not North America.

As for any automatic more than 8 speeds... I personally think it's diminishing returns. Realistically, you will not be using all these gears. Just with BC's low highway speed limits, I doubt a 2.0T 10AT would actually engage it's last 2 gears often.

Same. The sedan looks great. The rear has some elements of the RX-Vision/Vision Coupe concept(especially the taillights) and that's awesome.

I also hope the Skyactiv-X engines are reliable. One thing for sure, it will be more reliable than a rotary.:troll:

According to 2nd hand info that I've heard / read, carbon build up is kind of an issue in the SkyActiv engines, more so than regular DI engines. In particular, it seems to be worse if the car does a lot of short drives, where the engine can't get up to proper operating temperatures.

On the other hand, if the engine gets driven a lot, it works quite well though.

twitchyzero 11-28-2018 03:02 PM

i agree sedan is more sleek
rear of the hatch does look alfa
probably looks better in person...right now hood hooks too long and boxy and rear too round
c-pillar reminds me of a vw corrado

AzNightmare 11-28-2018 03:28 PM

I'm sure i'm in the minority of opinion, but the 2nd gen was always my favourite. I didn't really like the look of the 3rd gen. The sedan was alright, but something about the hatchback always made me think it was trying to hard to be more "sporty". The rear looked non proportionally big, and it looks even worse in this gen now. the C pillar is huge...

And I hate this trend of black spoilers that blend into the rear window... What's even the point. Now it just looks like your car doesn't have a spoiler.
Save the "black" for creating illusions of void spaces. It's why blacked out grills or vents work. But not so much on spoilers, wings, splitters, etc. Unless the goal is to blend them from view.

Like how the 3rd gen did it right, with the hatch spoiler having black on the areas that were for structural support. That was a good use of black. Making it match the car paint would make it look aesthetically unappealing.

:D aftermarket wheels and proper suspension setup will solve the problem

!Aznboi128 11-29-2018 05:06 PM

so... if you look back in the new 3 hatch this is what you'll see
