Possible odometer fraud So I was checking a car out, negotiated and I was just there looking over things before i make the purchase. Most everything checked out, except for 2 issues: 1. rear door having an actuator lock problem, and 2, the oil level is low, barely showing any on the dipstick. So anyway I expected a few things wrong with the car and said I'm fine with these imperfections, and so i said i will run carproof first. To my surprise, the report came back showing it had almost 300k on the odometer, but the cluster says 154. I asked the guy but he said he's not sure, and started saying he got it off his cousin and what not. But he didn't look surprised though, which is kinda odd. At this point i'm kinda pissed and i just took the bus home. Wasted 4 hours of my life, and I'm out 60 bucks. Fucking people and their scams. Do not buy the 2004 white Acura TSX with 154k from port coquitlam unless they disclose correct mileage. is there a place to report this? searched MVSABC but didn't find anything about reporting, they just tell you to do your due diligence. |
Ask him if he has the transfer papers from when he bought it, the papers will list the reported milage by the previous seller. If he doesn't have them, the insurance agent that did the transfer should have a copy as well. If you care that much that is.. |
Sometimes mileage gets entered incorrectly, I know the aircare people would always fuck it up. |
is tampering with digital odo almost just as easily as analog ones? |

I also do think my SLK has false odometer, it is 2004 and the odometer shows 34xxx km, I rarely drive it, but I have a feeling it is not correct. Any simple way to check the ECU the real odometer? |
Have a 2004 White Acura with 120km in Port Coquitlam. Will sell for the right price. Only odometer rolling, was the forward roll my grandmother used to get it to 90k. Then I started driving it. |

Why do people care so much about Mileage? I bought my Element with over 300k on it. I've replaced a couple things (sway bar links, brakes) but overall its performed awesome. I mean, if it's 150k or 300k it really makes NO difference depending on how it was serviced. Edit: I will say thought that certain vehicles develop a lot of problems around a certain point but Honda's and Acura's are pretty solid. Berz out. |
^^^but if the seller is trying to sell it at a 150k price vs a 300k price..thats a different story. |
I have a buddy who brought a truck in for warranty work at 20,000km, and the dealer (dodge) reported it to CarProof at 120,000km. He went to sell the truck and turned into a massive nightmare. |

06 TSX FS, with NAV. Mileage can be confirmed :fullofwin: |
People have been doing S2k cluster swaps all the time. I recall looking at a couple before mine and they were totally cluster swaps. |

I suspect that's what happened with this.... in hindsight, i should've offered a grand for it |

I found it on cl when you posted originally |
honda clusters are just plug and play... euro cars are a bit of a headache since it requires reprogramming |

Because they're going to increase the price as the days go by, riight. I know white TSX's are a dime a dozen...look for another one? |
CARFAX/CARPROOF sometimes reports wrong mileage, but usually its only one mistake. If its reporting wrong mileage for a few years in a row then it looks like it was rolled back... Also miles vs kms can get messed up in some cars that are from the states so it looks like it was rolled back to an untrained eye |
lol... this thread, people think they live in a world with no lies and no mistakes. you know what happens when a car gets 10k worth of damage in an accident, and the owner does not want a rebuilt status on the car? he goes to his buddies shop, gets it redone, the car looks like new. and you just bought a "clean title" car. welcome to planet earth. |
