The race in Nanaimo is super tight between the cons and the NDP. Keeps changing who is in the lead by 50 to 200 votes. The ppc has 5% of the vote with 2779 votes. He would be the reason why the con losses.

To think what we could have done with that money.

Erin O'Toole ran a respectable campaign and tried to bring his party towards the centre which is where elections are won. Yeah, that provably doesn't sit well with many on here, but the proof is in the results. The path to power is through Montreal Island, the 905, and Metro Vancouver.

As most of us expected, a $600M waste of time. Another 18 months of government handouts and all out Oprah Trudeau until the next election which will cost $700M at the current rate of inflation.

Super tired about the cost thing though… it’s like $20 per person guys. I’ll pay that for democracy. And the money stays in Canada.

People upset about losing $16 but wouldn’t be upset about all the cuts to social programs under the Cons that would cost them more money. Anyone in here have kids? You’re gonna save a lot more than $16 as long as the affordable childcare goes through.
I’ll take a mediocre result and some money lit on fire over the alternative.

I don't understand why people here keep repeating the Conservative Party or Conservative radio host/twitter/facebook memes/whatever talking point of "Trudeau calling this election to try to get himself a majority and somehow thought he had an advantage going for him and spent our tax dollars doing it"
Like, fuck.
He tried to get a functional parliament... Didn't happen this time, so we should be happy he can do it again in 1.5-2 years
Hopefully NDP wins some people over by then, or the Conservatives move their platform more to the left if they want to stop losing more each time, because that's clearly where Canada is going. Liberals should do it too

I’ll take a mediocre result and some money lit on fire over the alternative. | That is so simplistic. Those same kids will be paying in so many ways in the future because of the over spending of this present government. No family could possibly manage their household finance like our government. A little deficit spending because of Covid is understandable because it's a crisis but buying next gen with wasted CERB and breeding a kind of laziness (collect CERB rather than work). Yah, let the Libs dig a bigger massive fiscal hole and when it is too deep, then elect the Cons to work on balancing the budget.
Not even a life long Con but hell, at least let them try to see if they can do any better than petulent child-man JT.

What’s simplistic is the idea of Cons=fix.
Inflation is a global issue due to income inequality and the pandemic. We are not immune. Trudeau sucks but the liberal policies and things like CERB are what prevented mortgage defaults, homelessness and a full collapse of the economy in Canada. If you think that wouldn’t cost us the same, I don’t know what to tell you. The pandemic interrupted the entire worlds economy, and we are fucked regardless of how we got there. There is/was no viable solution to prevent it. We are facing a reckoning from poor spending and corporate tax policy worldwide and the only solution is for the entire population to be mindful of how they spend, so cancel that Amazon membership and head to your local shops.

stop parroting the $15-20/head
it's not a 100% turnout and 16 year olds can't vote
yeah i'm salty af but i think the system is broken if we can call elections under 2 years
no one really wants a dictator either so there should be a balance
comparing ourselves with hk and china is a low-blow lol

Nobody is saying Cons=fix. I'm just saying let them try ... it can't be any worst.
Reducing the calling of this unnecessary election to $16 per person is super simplistic.

CERB is the hill you’re going to pick to die on? And yah it can be a WHOLE LOT worse if people start walking back abortion rights and whatever else tickles a right wing fancy these days.
You know our programs are the idolizations of the world right? I know people living in SE Asia who are like holy shit man your government took care of you guys, they basically came around and threw anyone with Covid into a concentration camp and let them die here, no money, no jobs, no food, companies coming in and taking advantage of poor people, fake vaccines… you guys are sitting fat in your chairs bitching? Try another shoe on for a change.
It’s totally a fantasy to even try to say what a Conservative government would have done… just let people die? Same thing? Maybe even more (doubtful?)
One could also argue that people not going back to work in the service industry isn’t a product of CERB, it’s a product of an industry that pays too shitty and all the failed attempts to raise minimum wage shot down by mostly Conservative governments is truly what’s at fault here — allowing companies to profit millions of dollars on the backs of people who can barely get by.
Did the Cons even have a Covid recovery plan to their platform? Anyone know?
I know I didn’t like NDP saying they would double CERB, that seemed ridiculous to me.

Social programs bla bla bla again, it’s just an assumption anything would change under the cons to throw that liberal spin into it. Programs in BC are already a disaster and a lot of that has to do with the money allotted here by the feds.
According to virtually any expert on the matter, $10 day care ain’t happening and since we seem to always be dealing with hypotheticals here, inflation will undoubtedly be worse under the the libs than it would have been with the cons. This was an election based on who gives out more free stuff.
If you thought affordability in housing was bad before, wait until interest rates hit 3%+
Obviously not the result I was hoping for but I guess I’ll have to take the advice of a fortune cookie I had the other night, “Be happy with your lot in life, you can’t win them all”
Edit* lol I don’t understand these comparisons to essentially third world countries saying Canada did X so you should be happy comparatively. Yea, we’re Canada..we should be doing better. And any comparison to HK is pointless. No one cares what HK is doing relative to Canada, sorry Skinny. Move back to Canada and you can have an opinion as to how this country is run.
