As the article has pointed out, this generational divide is hardly new. In fact, I'd say every generation progress through exactly the same thing. Some young people will get fed up and leave for another place to seek their fortunes. Those who stay behind and tough it out may or may not be able to build something, but generally speaking, by the time someone makes it into their 40's, that'll roughly mark the high point in the careers for some time.

So personally, I don't really see why anyone would be surprised to see those sentiments.

NDP MP launches bill to lower voting age to 16

Quote:
Following in the wake of a recently launched legal challenge to Canada's federal voting age, NDP MP Taylor Bachrach has tabled a private member's bill in the House of Commons that would extend the franchise to 16-year-olds.

"I've been inspired by the young people that are taking the government to court on this topic," the B.C. MP told CBC News. "[And] over the course of my political career I've been inspired by all of the young people I've had a chance to engage with …

"There are so many intelligent, motivated, caring young people out there. I can't help but feel that their voice deserves to be heard."
Not good news for the cons but great news for the NDP if it passes.

Conservative Leader Erin O'Toole is facing an internal revolt and some members of his caucus are prepared to trigger a vote on his future as early as Wednesday, sources told CBC News.

MPs opposed to O'Toole's leadership have collected enough signatures — 35 so far — to hold a secret ballot to decide his fate, sources said.

"He's done it to himself," a source said of O'Toole. "He's done nothing to endear himself to caucus.

O'Toole has repeatedly tried to establish himself as a "moderate" Conservative. If the Conservative Party is really stupid enough to oust him at this time, they are literally committing political suicide and forever banishing themselves to irrelevance because the only direction they can go is to become more radical (ie. nutjob).

The entire Liberals Party is the one that is really licking their chops...

The cons need to split back into 2 parties because the views are so different from one member to another and no leader can control them.

If there was a PC party they could have a chance and they can let the nut jobs like Sloan go to the PPC.
A progressive Conservative party could at least be a viable option to get the libs out for most Canadians that are left leaning socially but fiscally conservative. There is no place for social conservatism in Canada as it essentially goes against the principles of Canada based on freedom (that matters like sexuality, religion, etc) and immigration.
While I’d be swinging to the left, people like myself can at least be satisfied with an option like that as it’s not going to negatively affect marginalized communities nearly as much.

That was the Venus Fly Trap that Max caught me with at the very beginning. Even if he intended on his party being just that, he deserves what he gets for letting the PPC turn into what its become.

Isn't the PPC already like that? It is almost kind of weird that the nutjobs within the Conservatives would rather try to oust O'Toole than to just leave and join Bernier and his PPC. The only sensible reason that I can think of for them to not do it is -- even the Conservative nutjobs are thinking Mad Max is a toxic asset and too extreme LOL~

The thing is the Cons still have no clear direction. O’toole took them one way but half of their members are still the right wing nut jobs, so until they either leave, or take over, there will be the identity crisis of the modern conservatives continuing. It was pretty clear under scheers leadership he’d have liked it to go one way and it didn’t work, and under o’toole taking it the other way, there was slightly more support from Canadians, but still, not enough to sway the average liberal voter.

Cons are probably fucked for a long time in the future here, unless they're able to find a seriously charismatic leader.

Their knuckle-dragging QAnon wing of the party are fucking it up for them, westopher is right. Until they can figure that portion out, their votes will continue to get split, and they'll continue to have an identity crisis.

We'd see this finally happen to the Republicans in the States too, if it weren't for their shitty two-party system.

Pretty much cements the notion that the Conservatives are not capable or willing to progress on social issues, and thus I think will never form a majority government again.

There’s so much economic growth to be had in climate and clean energy solutions, but people are still so resistant to any idea that oil and gas are any less than everything that matters. It’s really a missed opportunity.

JT is the luckiest SOB. Keeps on winning the lottery. One bumbling Con leader after another! Masks his entitled egotistical arse. Forces you to answer the question, "Well, would you prefer any other PM right now?' with a ' Regretfully, no!'

Probably means JT will have as long a run as PM as his dad. I'm no fan of JT (he's pretty meh IMO) and am surprised that he's had this much runway. Wonder if any internal Liberals will ever challenge him or if he'll consider stepping down for a break.
