‘I’m having too much fun’: The inside story of how Justin Trudeau and Jagmeet Singh struck a deal that changed Canadian politics

Vancouver doesn’t really have those enclaves of expats like larger cities like Toronto, New York etc. have especially the middle eastern types

With that said though, again it takes forever to get anywhere in Toronto so if you don’t have those places nearby you’re kinda SOL. Vancouver will always have the upper hand with sea food and Asian imports though. Fresh sea food in Toronto is the same as saying fresh sea food in Ohio. Yoir supply chains have to be excellent to get top quality goods

You can only call yourself an expat if you are white and have moved to a crappier country.

So that moron finally realized buying the f-35s was the correct decision.

Canadians never deserved Harper.

Timothy Choi, a defence researcher at the University of Calgary, said having waited to buy F-35s may end up not being a financial burden for Canada. About 10 years ago, an F-35A, the variant Canada plans to buy, cost around US$100-million. The latest cost for the same variant is US$77.8-million, he noted. “That comes to a savings of nearly $2-billion, which comfortably covers the Hornet extension and secondhand Hornets,” Mr. Choi said.
Looks like JT is a better negotiator.

GLOW 03-29-2022 08:14 AM

do any of these ministers or politicians know or could have predicted that? i feel like it just happened and they/we got lucky.

sort of like a person that was able to own a property 30 years ago acting like they're financial gurus thinking they're a big real estate guru when things blew up and they could sell for insane profit.

EvoFire 03-29-2022 09:37 AM

Arguably, the climate 10 years ago was different and I think the need for a new jet wasn't as dire. I agree that the purchase price being lower was pure luck than JT being a good negotiator. It's not like JT negotiates directly anyways.

Bouncing Bettys 03-29-2022 10:17 AM

I kinda agreed with JT in 2015 and looked forward to a more appropriate purchase.

I understand needs and situations change over time, but what has convinced JT that the F35 has overcome his 2015 criticisms?

68style 03-29-2022 10:17 AM

If JT bought the planes back then, right wing media would be complaining about how he should have just kept the Hornets active a few years longer and bought against a weak US dollar for a discount now.

Politics aren't even about what you believe in anymore... it's what you make believe in.

Hondaracer 03-29-2022 11:08 AM

Why would the right wing media complain when Harper was the one who brought in the program?

This is the exact same shit with the NDP cancelling the liberals Bridge for tunnel. In this case though you just cancelled the bridge for the same bridge years later.

Nothing convinced him, he cancelled it because it was the previous govts plan when it was obviously the only plan to go with given the connection to the country of origin and manufacturer.

The only surprising thing is he didn’t go with Chinese jets given how tight he is with them.

For some reason this reminded me of JT cancelling purchases of nitrile gloves from Malaysia citing human rights issues, and now our nitrile gloves all come from China (this is post xinjiang concentration camps and before the Michael's were freed)

Only in Trudeaus Canada do we have all these articles popping up normalizing using the food bank:

https://www.straight.com/food/chef-b...2029f-81024245

You’ll also notice a lot of ad’s in the last little while from companies like Walmart etc. positioning roles like floor manager etc. at as a long term, life long career. The race to the bottom is on in full force.

Because the economy is booming walmart and most other places are having a very tough time finding workers.

Vancouver debating installing more CCTV cameras in the downtown core

https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/vanc...meras-proposal

It’s laughable people make the argument “this targets racialized and marginalized people”

Yea that person broke a bunch of store front windows, but they are native! Why are you targeting a racialized group!!

All these stories about businesses having their windows broken 10+ times. The approach we are currently taking is absolutely insane. Repeat offenders with dozens of convictions just let go with zero penalties? Lol

My wife’s company is subletting their office space at homer and pender because everyone is tired of stepping over homeless people, shit, and needles everywhere. And it’s hardly the “worst” area to have a business or live.

mikemhg 04-27-2022 12:39 PM

I'm surprised it hasn't been done already. It would also deter violent crime against users as well. Drug using women are raped and assaulted down there all the time, CCTV is a no brainer.
