I'd say it's the ugly side of human nature. Any time there is any semblance of power involved, it brings out the worst in certain types of people. It's my way or the highway. People butt heads, and power struggle ensues. You see it in sports associations from little leaguer type of thing, to regional / provincial level training. You see it in strata council. You see it in grassroots organizations. It's super pathetic.  | |

You should also bear in mind that Kennedy Stewart has a major fallout with the VPD, and things are so bad between them that for the first time in a long time (or possibly first time ever), the police union is backing Ken Sim as their candidate of choice. The implosion of Vision Vancouver caused the most fragmented and divisive city council we've seen in a long time and there are few mayors who could have wrangled that council into something productive.
It's quite possible that we'll be headed to another divided council this election and Ken Sim is totally not the guy to get things done - like you said he sounds like a sleazy used car salesman and every answer he gives is proof he doesn't know how gov't runs and that he also thinks he knows better (when he doesn't). He's so full of shit.
I'm largely a one issue voter (housing) and Ken's platform on housing is next to useless. He's no closet racist like Colleen Hardwick but his platform will do nothing but make things even worse for residents.
The only mayoral candidate that understands the housing crisis and the way out of it (or improve it) is Kennedy Stewart and if his party and OneCity Vancouver get elected we'd see actual progress on housing in Vancouver.

just get rid of the horse drawn carriage, that's the main reason why cars get super clogged up in stanley, not because there is only one lane now.

We go to the aquarium every other week. Everytime there's a problem it's the horse drawn carriage. Sometimes the back up goes all the way through the aquarium parking lot, it's bad.

As the crown jewel park for tourists, I also think it is extremely short sighted for Parks Board to make Stanley Park inaccessible to tourists. No tour group is gonna waste 1.5 hrs stuck in traffic jam, so they are just gonna skip it altogether. This was a non-issue at the time during lockdown, but with travel being completely open again, the tourist-generated revenues is HUGE (and I am not just talking about the direct revenues made by the Park and its various businesses).

I see ABC squeaking out a mayoral win as well as their incumbents returning to council as they will grab the lion's share of the second/third generation immigrant detached home owning voting block. Reddit Vancouver seems to be fixated on crime in the DTES, so Kennedy will probably lose the renter tech-bro vote - that vote will be split between ABC and the NPA. Hardwick has a ceiling of maybe 15%.

That’s how I feel my riding is with gross Jenny Kwan. The people who vote her in are the same type who don’t come out into the sunlight. But they get out to vote because she’s an encumbant Asian NDPer!
She’s literally done nothing, like I ask people who say they vote for her what she’s actually done period and no one can have a single answer lol

Here’s a gooder, the man who was arrested for stabbing multiple people in crab park over the weekend was convicted of manslaughter in 2016.

She’s been a federal MP long before the NDP had even a sniff of power. She’s had enough time to go to Disneyland and other family trips on the Tax payers time which she eventually got caught for. But again, the people voting for her have their heads buried in the sand

Harm reduction (BC way of offering clean drugs without required treatment) as a strategy has had enough time to evaluate its efficacy ... and the eye test says it is failing miserably.
I appreciate that the video isn't just criticism but offers the Portugal model of clean drugs plus mandatory assessment as an alternative solution (person is offered clean drugs but must enter into an appropriate flow of help and rehab).

Sean isn't much wrong with what he's saying is happening but he's wrong or at least naive about how to fix it. He's raging against the machine but doesn't show that he knows how to work the machine. He thinks capitalism is the root of the problem which it kinda is but it's also the solution to the problems - people pursue profit so set the incentives so that profit is made from solving the right problems.

i agree, you have to know how the system works in order to even attempt to get things done.
a lot of the people do not understand government, policy, approvals process etc and are just angry, which is fine, but you can't just "make things happen".
CoV voting has so many things to choose from I appreciate the voting assistant interface setup where you can read a bio/blurb of what a candidate is about and who they are. Reminds me of going through resumes.
Not the best way to decide on someone in under a minute I know, but for someone like myself it gives me a feel of do I think they have what it takes (but not know their true motives) and it made it easy when it came time to walk in and start inking dots.

A 93-year-old man has been taken to the hospital with a broken hip after Vancouver police say he was knocked to the ground in Chinatown Tuesday.
It happened just after 3 p.m. The VPD says the man, who has lived in the neighbourhood for 30 years, was heading to a bakery in the area of Main and East Pender streets when he was “pushed over by a stranger.”
The senior was helped by several bystanders before he was taken to be treated.
Police have released surveillance footage of the incident, noting it happened in a heavy pedestrian and vehicle traffic area. Investigators are hoping the public can help identify the suspect.
