So if someone does something that has a positive effect, you think they are stupid for not doing it sooner?
It's pretty obvious that no matter what happens with this government, it will always end up with "they are stupid, I am smart" comments from you, so why bother to pretend otherwise?

Our gov't always does things reactively... never actually has any plan in advance.
I already said, I'm not against this proposal. But digging deep into the reasoning of doing this right now, why?
It's nothing more than saying "oh yes, we are doing something to help Canadians with sky high inflation and an interest rate that young people still in college have never encountered in their working life".
This proposal was not made because it helps Canadians to get better education. It's merely a way with little resistance for the gov't to say that they are actually doing something.

I like how “the government is stupid for not doing it earlier in their term” as opposed to “it’s stupid that previous governments didn’t enact this policy.” There’s absolutely no logic in it.

hehe you dolt, interest on student loans used to only start accruing AFTER graduation. Making them interest free is not an incentive for 18 year olds to pursue education, it's making the loans "cheaper" to maintain for literally millions of working adults.
Also interest-freeze has been in place since 2020 when Covid first hit, they just made it permanent after 2 years of already being in place.
If you want to argue it's reactionary, at least argue it's because Biden is about to write off student loans in the 'muricas.
I don't have student loans as I paid mine off aggressively, but this is a good thing.

I’ve been through college and grad school. So I believe I know a thing or two about what student loan is.
Again, let me repeat what I’ve said in the last 2 posts, I’m not against the policy and it makes sense to have this. I just want to point out the fact that our government is too short sighted. They don’t see things into the future but only the present. Which is the part that saddens/annoys me the most.
When we have leaders who can’t see more than a few years, that means there’s little to be expected.

Better late than never.
Alberta also does student loans at prime plus 2. They have no plans to end it. I guess they are to busy fighting wef and kids.

So that guy who assaulted the woman in the lobby of her building and then instantly released: https://vancouver.citynews.ca/2022/1...ail-vancouver/
Has now been released again on Bail, but not only with that random assault he committed, he also is charged with 2 counts of sexual assault for PREVIOUS INCIDENTS PRIOR TO THE RANDOM ASSAULT
Don’t even know what to say anymore

Who decides on the court's terms regarding granting bail vs no bail? City of Vancouver? Province of BC? Federal government?
Legitimately curious as I have no idea, but definitely seems unreasonable to grant bail given the multiple offences and risk to repeat.

The scary thing is almost certainly the random assault in the lobby would have been a sexual assault if the strangers hadn’t intervened
But again, guess she wasn’t penetrated, only mentally scarred for life so in Canada you can just walk the turnstile back into the streets and hit up McDonald’s for a nice Big Mac before committing your next felony.

Serious question, what is causing people like that to be released? Honestly the only hope is that this guy has an altercation with the wrong person and gets his face smashed in at this point.
Multiple violent crime offenders, especially random sexual violence should be either fast tracked for their court dates or be held as long as necessary.

Legitimately curious as I have no idea, but definitely seems unreasonable to grant bail given the multiple offences and risk to repeat. | The Crown attorney first decides if they want to consent to or oppose bail. If they decide to oppose bail, then they make their case in front of a judge.
The Defense attorney argues why an accused should be released on bail.
But ultimately the decision to grant or deny bail comes down to the judge.
So the answer to "what is causing these people to be released" really comes down to Judges being a bit soft and/or not correctly assessing the risk to public safety and the likelihood for a violent person to reoffend while on bail.
As to who puts pressure on the judges to be a bit more scrutinizing during bail hearings? I'm not really sure, probably the provincial government, or the public itself.

Don’t even know what to say anymore | And the Liberals backed out all of Haprer's mandatory sentences for many offences that were set to keep the public safe - virtue signalling is better than your peace.

Hahahahahah https://vancouver.citynews.ca/2022/1...after-release/
This guy was arrested again instantly after being released on that bail I posted about, in under 24 hours, for breaking the bail conditions
Yay Canada!
Full credit to the cops, they seem to be doing their jobs. This system is going to get more and more people randomly assaulted, killed, and raped.

This woman reminds me of some of these conservative Aunt Lydia types that are vehemently against abortion. Such an odd case of cutting your own nose off to spite your face.
Imagine if women wanted to ban jerking off, and seeing some men come out and support that initiative |

I think it has to do with stage in life. Most left-leaning individuals are young, single, unmarried, no kids. Then they grow up, have family, bills to pay, real life to deal with, responsibilities, and values gradually shift to center or center right.

to quote John Adams one of the american Founding Fathers: “If a person is not a liberal when he is twenty, he has no heart; if he is not a conservative when he is forty, he has no head."
