I wish from the get go was actually implemented properly on environmental initiatives. Why the fuck am I paying Starbucks .25 for a .05 cup? It just went into CEO and shareholder pockets in large scale operations. Completely stupid from the moment it was thought of.

You got it backwards....
Who makes the legal policies and laws of each country? The rich.
Who owns the megacorps?
The rich.
Who thought of this policy?
The rich.

Well, I mean, the last sentence of my comment might have it backwards, although, I don't think Starbucks and McDonald's have the pull in Vancouver civic politics all that much. If anything we'd end up paying drywall deposit for all the developers by that logic. They are the ones that control this city.

You are not paying for the cup you are being fined for using a cup. In Nanaimo bags cost .25 cents if you don't have your own.

Who collects the 25 cents Starbucks or the government?
In Nanaimo the store collects and keeps the .25 cents for the bag. The idea is to discourage people from using disposable paper bags and bring their own bags.

On the Federal government front ... report on MAID came out. Thinking of widening access to Advanced consent for those with dementia. Make it possible for those suffering from Mental Health. And make it possible for mature minor (under 18) with screening. Feds are taking time to work this through. Quebec is going ahead to make these into a bill.
Kind of like let the genie out of the bottle and it's hard to reign things back.

I can tell you 100% there was absolutely no conversation between the city and any business about that.
No email, no mail, no phone call, no polite question.

After I don't know how long and how much $$ for the inquiry, conclusion: Federal government met the threshold to invoke Emergencies Act
Great, we can all move on now.
I think it's a good idea we ensure that what is essentially Canada's nuclear option of trampling over Citizens' rights is used properly. The money on the following mandatory inquiry is money well spent. I can't believe it's something people bitch and moan about.
After careful reflection, I have concluded that the very high threshold required for the invocation of the Act was met.
I do not come to this conclusion easily, as I do not consider the factual basis for it to be overwhelming. Reasonable and informed people could reach a different conclusion than the one I have arrived at.
I also reach this conclusion reluctantly.
In other words, you could have flipped a coin to get the conclusion. My 'bitch and moan' is not the need for an inquiry, my bitch and moan is the time and cost it took to get this frickin weak 'could be this, could be that' conclusion.
The results of the inquiry were expected the moment Rouleau, an uncle of Justin's, refused to recuse himself for his ties to his nephew and his prior activism for Liberal party.
All the ABC's (Anyone But Conservative) types who applaud the results of this inquiry, the freezing of bank accounts, the use of force against peaceful protesters, etc., should be concerned that this gives the same powers to eventual Conservative governments. They will get back in power eventually and now have the tools to trample all over your rights just as easily.
