I wouldn't be surprised at all to see China expelling a Canadian diplomat as a tit-for-tat response. They are extremely petty in that sense.

Manic! 05-08-2023 02:10 PM

Now watch them arrest a couple of Canadians and hold them for months.

I'm ignorant, but what flag needs to be updated? The provincial flags don't change, the maple leaf doesn't change. Does each monarch have a unique crown that we use? I can't think of anything that I touch upon everyday that has a unique crown on it.

Again, I'm ignorant of such things so educate me.

Armed forces has her crown on their flag, I believe a few provinces may even have her crown on them? Apparently the stupid Governor General has her own flag with its insignia on it according to this.. it’s any image with the queens crown on it. Which should be the only crown other than this BS:

https://www.canada.ca/en/canadian-he...al-family.html

Leave it to Canada to create something when nothing/no other country does it..

Again flags are kind of like money, in that they are easier to replace than other things such as emblems, plaques, stationary, etc.

I’m sure it’s impossible to quantify what this and similar procedures will cost but they are all completely pointless regardless

Yeah but as soon as something bad happens because they expelled him the same people saying that will be saying how they didn't think through the consequences.

StylinRed 05-08-2023 03:10 PM

Wow it only took over two years for Trudeau to respond to the threats Chong was facing, how pathetic

Called it! So petty LOL~

China expels Canadian diplomat in tit-for-tat move

China has expelled Canada's consul in Shanghai in retaliation for Ottawa sending home a Chinese diplomat accused of trying to intimidate a Canadian MP.

On Monday, Canada declared China's diplomat Zhao Wei "persona non grata" and ordered her to leave the country.

In response, China on Tuesday ordered the removal of Jennifer Lynn Lalonde, Canada's diplomat in its Shanghai Consulate.

"China reserves the right to further react," Beijing said in a statement.

Both diplomats have five days to exit the countries.

If I was that diplomat in China, I'd consider it a promotion to go home.

BC Housing ex-CEO Shayne Ramsay and Janice Abbott, CEO Altira Women Housing Society (husband and wife) were 'in bed together'. B.C. Housing's funding to Atira has increased from $21.2 million in 2018 to $74.1 in 2022, according to the audit. Homelessness is a HUGE 'business'/industry and some who know how to play the game stand to gain a tremendous amount of wealth.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/briti...ofit-1.6835992

Speaking in the legislature, B.C. Premier David Eby said a special team of investigators "found a structured and systematic breaching of the conflict of interest rules" at the most senior level of B.C. Housing, including altered meeting minutes, missing financial documents and millions of dollars spent without necessary approvals.

"Perhaps most troubling, they found the majority of text messages of the CFO and CEO had been deleted, which effectively obstructed the investigation," he said.

I think there was something about each person in an SRO costs the government 55k/year.
You could literally get them an oceanfront studio in kits, clothe them, feed them, and give them some fun time spending money for a ski pass in the winter and a golf pass in the summer for that.

donk. 05-09-2023 09:55 PM

If I'm not mistaken, GVRD spends a million a day, on homeless people. Ambulance/fire/police, housing, services, office staff, programs, etc

Blows my mind.
I wonder what Vancouver would be like if they were completely cut off, and left to fend for them selves

Joke is on you, they borderline do have that. The brown building on the N-W corner of main and 2nd (behind the shell) is an SRO, 10 year old building, 10 floors.
These people had better views than my last 4 places that I lived in.

westopher 05-10-2023 06:33 AM

I'm not a drug counsellor but whether the building is nice or not, putting a bunch of homeless addicts in a giant building with 90% homeless addicts doesn't seem like a recipe for helping the addictions crisis.

Things would be even worse. Generally speaking the less you do for the homeless the more it costs (more crime, more drugs, more damage, more deaths etc). The cheapest solution has always been to house them and provide them resources so they can get up and running again. The stability and safety of supportive housing costs the least (less than what we spend now) but getting people to buy into that model is really hard b/c it seems like a handout - it's easier to hire more cops and to look and act tough by tearing down their tents as if that makes the homeless "go away".

Badhobz 05-10-2023 06:28 PM

So if you’re gonna poke the panda you might as well do it in style and with some expediency. 2 years to “make up your mind” on foreign influences is weak and pathetic. Go ahead go burn all the political relationships with China since obviously our government is taking a stand.

They don’t give a shit you might as well burn it all.

Do you guys prefer Organic food? Well you may not be able to find it in the future as Canada has relaxed the rules regarding gene edited Seeds and they will place oversight in the hands of the industry instead thru voluntarily provided details by corporations

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/gene-...ears-1.6836623

Quote:

On May 3, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Marie-Claude Bibeau announced that the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) seed guidelines now allow for some modified plants.

The updated seed rules now allow seeds created through gene-editing that are not spliced with foreign DNA or altered to make them pesticide-resistant.

These seeds will be allowed without an independent safety assessment by the government, as they are already considered safe.

Canada also announced an industry-managed database — the Seeds Canada Canadian Variety Transparency Database — to make it clear which seeds are and are not organic. While that database is voluntary, Bibeau says it will be overseen by a steering committee that includes and protects organic producers.

But Squires and other organic farmers say mandatory reporting is needed to know exactly which seeds take root. And with no labelling requirements, consumers won't know which foods use gene-edited ingredients. That, they say, could jeopardize the $9-billion organic sector, which must meet strict criteria — and ensure produce is not from genetically modified seeds — in order to use the organic label.

They're worried about contamination which can happen when the pollen spreads or seeds escape.

Most of the soybeans and corn now grown in the U.S. sprout from seeds that were genetically modified to be pesticide resistant and there's ongoing research about how pesticide-resistant genetically modified organisms (GMOs) led to so-called super weeds and bugs, and less biodiversity.

underscore 05-13-2023 09:13 AM

All "organic" food is just a marketing gimmick.
