Though it's hard for me to complain personally about it, my family got pretty rich thanks to property value increases and I think your potential move to Portugal is greased by a similar program and enabled by the same enrichment?

As an interesting aside, I can't seem to find it right now, but there's a podcast (US based) I listened to the other day and it was talking about how a lot of inflation is largely mental and part of the reason they work so hard to try and keep it down with interest rates is because once it establishes itself at a certain % it's literally impossible to penetrate the social fabric to bring it back down again once everyone collectively kind of just decides that it's at a certain amount.
Pretty fascinating stuff about how a lot of it just isn't real.

The only real thing that keeps companies like that in check are that they are publicly traded and their profits are visible to all. Although, in North American society people seem to be largely pushovers or indifferent to stuff like that.

That is literally what all opposition political parties and politicians do, and it is amazing so many people don't see thru this BS and hypocrisy.

I will never cease to be amazed at what some people decide to steal and what it means if they get caught. Especially at these jobs.
I think part of it comes from they think they know the system really well, so they know how to game it... I'm glad they got busted though. And unlike private citizens that fucked around they got fired too... government can't fire people who weren't public employees.
Honda always mentions that repeat offenders never get locked up or punished, which is true for the most part. But if you steal from the government/CRA, they will get you!

CEBA and CEWS saved my shop. unless i took on a mountain of debt, i might have had to walk away. with nothing. it filled the gap exactly when we needed it to.
these programs were most certainly abused, and obviously I disagree w the policies that put us in this position in the first place, but we're still here - and I'm not the only one.

This to me makes it all worth it tbh
Cheaters will eventually get caught and they'll find another way to cheat no matter what... but if it saves someone I know or someone legit then I'll take the L on some losers who game everything in their life
A family friend got over 1.5 mill between Canada and the USA and figured he doesn’t have to pay back anything after further evaluation
He does employ like 100+ people and business was at risk due to Covid and the type of work they do etc. but pretty crazy it ended up being basically a cheque cut to the company with nothing to repay

That $1.5M may sound like a lot, but when you spread it over 100 people, it's only $15k per person. And that's over how long a duration...? 6 months? 8 months? 2 years?
At 6 months, you're looking at $2500 per person per month. That is hardly a lot.

lot of stuff can change. remember when unlike the americans, politicians didn't campaign 2 years in advance? there's PP ads on TV already.
PP is spending 3 million on ads right now. other polls show him 10 to 14 points in the lead. 338 has him with a 9 point lead and a majority. Cons are really happy right now but I think PP is blowing his load early.
Well, you never know, NDP could get out of bed with the Libs and then, here we go with an election. But damn, JT ...one thing I am sure and you don't need any polls, you are dragging the Libs down. Do the right thing and step down ...give your party a better chance.
JT is down in the polls because the cons have been attacking him 24/7. When he goes on the attack and PP's true colours start showing things will change. PP can't hide his voting record.
