Cause your comments are always weighted in thought and facts rather than dragging this unbelievable narrative that after a decade of this current garbage, the alternative would be somehow worse lol.

A comment go to for conservative loudmouths everywhere!

You’ve yet to come up with anything that’s better now than it was 10 years ago.

I already mentioned one major thing previously in the thread.

Otherwise, I'm personally doing better than I was 10 years ago so I have little to bitch about.

Honda what was your favourite policy by Harper?
You have been very upset about SNC lavalin and other controversies by the current government. How do you feel about Harper protecting Mike Duffy after stealing all those tax dollars.
How do you feel about the Trudeau government enacting laws that damaged the uncontrolled nestle water (theft) bottling that was allowed to operate under harpers time as primeminister?
That seems like it's a positive on the environmental front, no?
Did you like the rolling back of water protection that was enacted by the previous conservative government?
Did you like when Harper said he would never run a deficit and then ran massive deficits for 6 years in a row?
Did you enjoy it he withdrawl from the Kyoto accord?
Did you enjoy the 400 page plan he released to roll back climate policies instead of enacting the ones he promised?
Make no mistake, the responsibility of the country being on fire, flooding, and various other disasters is the work of prior governments, not this one. That not only damages the environment further, but the economy as well.

Hondaracer 09-15-2023 01:04 PM

So you think the actions of a govt 12 years ago has changed the global climate to get us to this point.. in 12-14 years..

How did those things you mention there affect you directly? Outside of this insane claim thay those factors changed the climate enough in a decade to bring us here.

If you want to talk about scandal, Trudeaus laundry list is far longer than Harpers. Not to mention his countless errors in personal conduct.

westopher 09-15-2023 01:40 PM

No I don't think those caused it, however starting to do something earlier is smart no? When you have information that tells you something is wrong, you take actions to rectify the problem, instead of actions to exacerbate it.

Hondaracer 09-15-2023 01:41 PM

Like build and own an oil pipeline?

Traum 09-15-2023 01:53 PM

On the climate change portfolio, everyone (except for the climate change scientists) is guilty. Had our efforts to fight climate change took place 10 - 12 years ago, the world would not have warmed up by as much as it has now.

On a more personal and relatable level, I have never experience an excessive heat event like the 2021 heat dome until that year. Similarly, I don't recall there having been as many heatwave days that are as long or at hot as the summers in 2022 or 2023 before 2020 or 2021.

I also do not recall nearly as many wildfire smoke days here in Vancouver before the pandemic. PM2.5 used to be a term that I used to make fun of Beijing or New Delhi's air quality, and now we regularly make it to the top of the list as having the most polluted air in the world.

And I haven't even mentioned the floods yets.

So I'd say that if we had started taking climate change action 10 - 12 years earlier than we have, we might have been able to postpone the 2021 heat dome, the hot summers and wildfire seasons in 2022 and 2023 until another 5 - 10 years later, maybe?

You do realize how much economic losses (and loss of lives) we have suffered as a result of climate change in the past 3 years, right?

L-O-Fucking-L, are you for real? You flip flop arguments like a fish.

Here's a recap of what went down in 2016:

Canada: "We have 3 pipelines vying for approval, Trans Mountain, Line 3, Northern Gateway"

Greens/NDP: "Oil Bad, Need to reduce dependency and curb emissions, cancel all"

Conservatives: "Drill baby Drill! We need all pipelines, sweet sweet Oil $$$$"

Liberals: "OK, We'll compromize, Transcanada and Line 3 approved, Northern gateway cancelled"

Greens/NDP "Waaah, this is a big mistake, you're killing our planet!"

Conservatives "Waaah, this is a big mistake, you're killing our economy! Fuck Trudeau, Stickers depicting child sex act with Greta Thunberg for everyone!"

Most normal people: "Sounds like a good compromise to me"

I thought oil pipelines were the safest and greenest way to transport oil? Are they not?
We can gotcha all day if you want, but I hate the things Trudeau has done poorly, and appreciate the things he's done well. I feel the same way about Harper, but you always simplify things to Libs bad, and it doesn't seem to matter what it is. I don't fuckin care who runs the country. This isn't a sports game to me like it seems to be to so many people. I don't have a team I want to win. I want money to buy shit, I want an environment that isn't being raped and pillaged for corporate profits, and I want marginalized people to be treated with respect as much as any other person. That's all I care about. Whoever gets it for me, go team.

Hondaracer 09-15-2023 02:08 PM

Oh no question, but I have a hard time believing any actions whether they were from Harper, Trudeau, or anyone even before that has led to what we’re seeing now.

BC as a whole is incredibly “green” we may burn fossil fuels for heating etc. but in terms of EV’s, power generation, renewable energy and programs such as recycling, waste disposal, etc etc. we are world leaders

I’m no climate change denier by any means, but I have a hard time believing the relative drop in the bucket which is Canada has individually or even substantially created this environment to foster things like the heat dome

westopher 09-15-2023 02:15 PM

It's not just about those 9 years and I'm definitely not trying to simplify that, but it's like not putting that money in your piggy bank, and waiting, and waiting and waiting. All of a sudden you are about to retire and you have to hope the government doesn't do anything to make the world better because your retirement fund (property) is at stake.
Climate action creates compound interest and you've gotta start as soon as you know it's a good idea. Brushing it off makes things worse, and created a culture of people who brush it off as well.
I don't doubt we probably want the same shit at the end of the day, but we don't agree on how to get there. Unfortunately for my bank account, liberals are at least attempting 2/3 things I care about when conservatives will really only consider one of the three, and have made that quite clear.

68style 09-15-2023 03:44 PM

Harper's government contracted and brought in Phoenix pay system. BILLIONS down the hole and still burning like a wild tire fire.

Real people's champion.

"The report added that the system, whose original 2009 budget was $309-million, had already cost taxpayers $954-million and could rise to $2.2 billion by 2023 in unplanned costs. According to The Globe and Mail."

Straight up, the new childcare benefit is putting money into my pocket. And, the elimination of interest on student loans is also leaving money in my pocket. Despite me thinking JT is a silver spooned schmuck, at least him and his party aren't in cahoots with a political base of socially conservative twats whose aim is to import American style conservatism.

Trudeau bought a pipeline that was suppose to cost 5 billion and it’s now over 30.. and you’re talking about 2? Lol

If you want to dig into cost overruns I guarantee you the liberals have everyone beat

68style 09-15-2023 11:22 PM

At least a pipeline can make money back

Botched payment system is just a never-ending black hole

How could a conservative ever have budgeted a project at 1/10th it's actual cost tho? Aren't they the fiscally responsible party?

Great68 09-16-2023 06:26 AM

Conservatives: "Build all the pipelines!!!"

TransCanada wants to cancel project, Canada buys to keep it going"

Also Conservatives: "Should have dumped that pipeline!"

The hypocrisy is comical

Come on you know lefties don't work we just collect welfare. I am surprised that the cons have set this up for a Wednesday. Find it funny that islamophobes and Muslims are working together on this. Maybe someone should ask them how old Aisha was.

MarkyMark 09-17-2023 05:43 PM

No one will say anything to the Muslims that show up though cause if there's anything the left is terrified of it's appearing racist.
