I care less about this fuck up, if anything this just shows how ambiguous this whole Ukraine affair is in the first place. The reality is Russia is right in some ways -- There are a lot of Nazis in Ukraine, full stop.

A ton of those "brigades/militia" guys in the Donbas are full on Nazis.

I never understood the rush to whitewash Ukraine's history of racism and fascism simply because they're fighting Russia, so now they're our guys?

It reminds me of allying with the Ba'athists in Iraq when they were fighting Iran, or the Taliban in Afghanistan when they were fighting the Russians. These guys all have dirt on them, none of them are pious.

The real lesson here is that the lines of the two sides of that war around those regions of Europe at that time wasn't exactly all black and white.
I mean, Russia had just did Holodomor and killed 3.5-5 Million Ukranians six years prior to WW2. I can fully understand why this guy would have had a chip on his shoulder and would have joined the Germans to kill Russians.

I don't think North Americans can fully relate to what was going on back then over there.

Oh like in terms of the guy honestly I don’t really care, I agree completely and from the sounds of the SS group he was in, at least the way they attempt to translate the name it sounds like a “volunteer” unit so who knows. The eastern front was especially rough and I don’t blame him.
