Montreal seemed really nice when I was there in 2022, but I've never been before so I don't have anything to compare to.

It was, and I wouldn't want to be there in the winter. But there's more good food per capita there for sure. I wouldn't want to live there, but it sure isn't a dump, and I didn't have to dance around needles which was a nice treat

Actually in the winter it’s quite romantic. The snow adds a lot of character to the city and Frankly it’s better for it.
At least you don’t feel the potholes as much.

I like snow, a lot, but there's not enough up and down. Outdoor hockey is amazing though. Probably the part I miss most about edmonton.

Maybe it’s because I had to land at Trudeau airport to get there? Lol
Montreal is fine ok sure it’s not a dump and I’m sure the culinary scene is great, just personally never felt it was anything special

Just hit up a strip joint. It will change any man’s negative thoughts on Montreal. Lol. The food is on another level to top it off (probably at the strip bar too).

Had a legit 10/10 French model private dances for $10 a song, could pretty much do anything you wanted I couldn’t believe it still to this day 15 years later I’d still say she was a 10

With all the inflation we've had, you'd be lucky if you can still get it for $20 a song.

Lol so Turd and Co are tripping out that the big grocery suppliers aren’t doing enough to lower prices
I -never- shop ar superstore but had to go in there today for some stuff for work, LOL!!! I cannot fucking believe the prices on shit there. Galon Weston is running a masterclass in marketing/scamming the fuck out of Canadians.
We almost exclusively shop at Costco, and supplement it with Donald’s and occasionally Safeway. At Costco I always buy the same stuff.
Today at superstore:
A mini watermelon that is back to 4.99 at Costco is 7.99 at super store
Andy boy heads of romaine which are 6.99 at Costco at $8 at superstore for half the heads
Raspberries which are 5.99 at Costco the EXACT SAME container is 7.99
AVacados at Costco 7.99, they are 8.50 at superstore for wayyyy shittier, smaller AVacados.
And then they have “limit x per customer” on EVERY ITEM!!! Lol like it’s some kind of blow out deal buy now while the price is good.
I’m actually blown away about the prices like it’s insane

I am not defending Superstore in any way, but if you want to cite specific examples, there are plenty of examples from Costco, Safeway, or Save-on-Foods where things are super expensive as well.
And if you want to paint a picture of Superstore being cheaper than other places, you can easily cherry pick your best example too.
For example, banannas are always the cheapest at Superstore (@66 - 69¢/lb). Save-on and Safeway tends to be in the 79¢ - $1+ range, and Costco tends to be in the 80 - 99¢ range.

Yea I’m sure it goes both ways, but literally everything I buy on the regular from Costco was more expensive and of worse quality at superstore.
Even more basic things like onions, bags of oranges etc. were more.
Usually I’m not one to care about prices but I buy the same things over and over again so I know exactly what they cost

Superstore can eat a dick.
We do most of our shopping at thriftys and choices. Also Foxy farm market. Since things have all gotten fucked it's the same price to buy better food from expensive places or even less than buying trash from superstore and Safeway. Also ordering so much food from a lot of farmers in summer means I get stuff straight from them in season.
The best zucchinis from the best farm I've ever dealt with are 2.00 a pound, certified organic, and cheaper than the bitter inedible garbage the big chains sell. Spend as much time at the markets as you can in the summer and buy from sole food, solstedt organics, Hannah brook farms etc. in the summer and quit giving your money to these fucking assholes that control Canada's food supply. You'll be healthier, your food will taste better, and fuckheads make less money. Win win win.

Like even Donald’s has better quality and lower prices.. and there’s only ONE Donald’s market now as I believe the two locations had a falling out and separated?
So a place with a single location, or even if the two are together, can provide better quality product for the same or cheaper than the biggest giant we have.. hmmm..

I get a lot at Superstore since the only other main option here is Save On and their prices make Superstore look reasonable. I'm at Costco as much as possible but avoiding all the organic stuff there is a bit of a PITA.

grocery shopping should never be done at one store unless you are too rich to care about prices. now i'd never drive even 2 minutes to save $1 on an item, but i'd just modify my shopping list and the ingredeints i use in recipes based on what's on sale or reasonably priced. if celery is $2.99/lb then im not buying it, same for $2.99/lb onions, $3 cucumbers, or $5.99 cauli.
im really lucky to live across the street from a small mom and pops grocer that has some of the best prices i've seen anywhere. $0.99/lb celery for months straight, $0.99 cilantro, $0.99/lb peppers, $3.99 10lb russets. bananas are at the most $0.68/lb and often cheaper. a few weeks ago i even bought 2 heads of organic cauli for $2.
if you complain abt prices and go to superstore then just don't buy the stuff that's outrageously priced. occasionally i go to no frills and i even find their stuff to be pretty expensive overall

Lol we aren’t Italy. The whole point of these grocery stores is convenience and to have everything in one place. North American society is not one where people have time to get meat, dairy, veggies, and bread at different locations, nor do most cities have this even available. Especially in the suburbs
Also you have to factor in what your time is worth, I’d much rather spend the extra $2 on berries than drive my gas guzzling car 7 minutes, park, and buy half my groceries somewhere else.
On top of that we are probably in the minority for people who can even consider doing that, people who don’t have a vehicle or have kids etc. cannot be spending time driving around to all these different locations, so they will just eat the cost difference every time.
My point of the original post was, things shouldn’t be 20-30% more at these giants which are a few blocks apart from each other. It’s obviously active gouging/price fixing for the sake of profits.

We're on a 2-3 week costco shop, supplemented mostly by Country Grocer, Save on Foods and Red Barn Market
I look at time & gas factor a lot harder these days as to if it's worth it to make a special trip to another grocery store. There is a value to time.
Like, the Save on foods is right beside my son's music lessons on saturdays, so I kill two birds with one stone, kill time waiting for him and get some shopping done. I'm not going to drive across the city to somewhere like Thrifty Foods, burn another hour of time, to potentially save all of $5 on a couple items on sale that I need, so I'll just pick it up at save on even if it's not on sale.

I shopped almost exclusively at Superstore for many, many years not because I like their shit, I acknowledge the veggies and fruits are hit and miss... but because nothing else was close to me except Save-On foods or I'd have to drive around all over to various places.
That said, my final tipping point was during the summer when every time I went to buy chicken breasts they're all this cold dead yellowish colour... I said fuck no more... been going to diff places ever since for all my meat stuff. Sometimes I have to make 3 stops now depending what I'm making but I feel pretty good about it.
