I think the problem now is that a lot of “normal” people are becoming homeless which before you have these people who were kind of on the fringes of society, could get by renting a room and working part time and live with some kind of normalcy within society

Once those people start living in their car or worse, what’s left to do but drugs

Like, if I was bordering on homelessness and I had 6 figures of debt and no future prospects, pretty sure I’d either kill myself or wind up with a needle in my arm as well.

Trudeau: Best we can do is drop the GST on new builds and 500K more immigrants a year to help deliver you food.

Well, 8 years of liberal policy has brought us to this point, so I wouldn’t hold my breathe about anything they put forward improving the situation.

westopher 11-02-2023 09:40 AM

They totally won't. I mean libtard in the ideological sense. I'm not a liberal party fan since at least 2 years ago.

Who was also a known violent/sex offender before, and he also just recently violated his parole conditions by hanging around kids at a Vancouver library..

Canadurrrrr

westopher 11-06-2023 05:52 PM

Imagine being like, hmm how can we integrate this guy back in to society? Hmm probably put him on the DTES, totally going to end up as a productive member of society after a prison term with all that positive influence around.

Manic! 11-06-2023 10:32 PM

Got kicked out for bulling a trans kid.

I'm surprised he does not get bullied because I could not stop laughing at the poster.

One year of Ken Sim in office, and while I don't want to overstate the power of the mayors office, it's almost impressive that his biggest accomplishment so far has been getting the Stanley park train running again. That DTES cleanup sure paid off.

Don't forget his council paved the way to getting rid of pesky affordable housing requirements for that developer on Main St by Queen E Park too!

My gf met him at SXSW in Austin a few years ago, she said when she was talking to him that he was at a party with a group from Vancouver, and that group was all real estate developers there to launch an app of some sort for real estate stuff and he was helping them promote it.

Story checks out.

whitev70r 11-07-2023 01:55 PM

Like it or hate it ... he also got rid of the bike lane in Stanley Park.

CivicBlues 11-07-2023 02:59 PM

Don't forget axing the cup fee!

Hondaracer 11-07-2023 03:08 PM

Did a great job pushing crack heads into areas they used to not be in before his DTES sweep

I do love that one, but they did almost back out of it.

I went to high school with one of the founders of a real estate app that heavily promoted Ken Sim's party during the election. Then after winning the mayorship, I often see him hanging out with Ken Sim at various events on my Facebook feed. Probably the same group your gf bumped into a few years ago.

Anyhow, it just goes to show how the developers/real estate people are buddies with the city councillors!

Doesn't seem quite right, guy was DUI, kills 2 18 yo at UBC and gets 3 yrs of prison and 5 yr driving ban.

Judge sentences man who hit and killed two UBC students to 3 years in prison

Tim Goerner, who pleaded guilty, had been drinking at a party before the high-speed crash that killed Emily Selwood and Evan Smith. On Monday, the court heard that Goerner was going between 100 and 120 kilometres an hour in a 40 km/h zone when he hit Smith and Selwood, who were both 18 years old.

westopher 11-07-2023 04:18 PM

Same sentence as the guy that killed someone driving 140km/h on low level road in North van 2 years ago, and he was confirmed drunk, and had multiple drinking and driving suspensions before.
I don't think this guy above was actually confirmed to be intoxicated.

whitev70r 11-07-2023 04:32 PM

^ need to up the years in prison if you DUI and kill someone. Does the fact that this guy killed 2 come into play for sentencing? If one is 3 ... does 2 = 6 yrs? Does it work like that?

Just a damn damn shame what happened, 2 18 yo died, their family shattered forever.

Hondaracer 11-07-2023 04:34 PM

The news was saying the guy was an international student with a dual citizenship in Germany and Australia, going to UBC driving a BMW

He’s almost certainly from a family of means, after those 3 years he’ll carry on like nothing happened.

As well,

- got rid of the $.25 paper cup fee.
- added 100 new police officers to VPD but only 9.5 (equiv) mental health nurse so far. (well, I don't blame him on this one cuz mental health nurses don't grow on trees.)

And thank god he gave back those developers the back taxes on the empty home tax revenue, a true Robin Hood, he is.

My collegue was at the Caps playoff game last week and the camera put Ken Sim on the jumbotron from the audience to an uproar of emphatic boos :lol

Sim City not working out as expected.
