lol does it matter? It’s the same thing
Ineffective legislation to try and buy votes from the most vulnerable portions of the population. Nothing I said changes.

I just want a government that will try and get votes through stirring unrest over pretend persecution of non marginalized groups.

it's not a biggy.. danggg if it was like the COVID vaccineeeee.
elder would never ever get a chance to get any type of coverage.
If this was rolled out from 0-20 yr olds... people in their 60s would never see the light of day at the dentist's chair..... so why is this a surprise...
We can't get anything efficient these days let alone dental plan. Give the dentist office a chance to get used to this first.
anyone from the dental sector chime in?

Looks like Canada had the balls to actually call for a ceasefire in the UN meeting yesterday, however, with the overwhelming vote for that, the UN says it's not legally binding anyways. So what does the UN ummmm do? Is it just a place for a bunch of countries to send representatives for coffee and to shoot the shit for a bit?

Everyone refers to it as some sort of ultimate powerhouse of global mediation but if you actually look into it they have a fraction of the 'power' everyone thinks they have.

Just like the League of Nations before. An utterly feckless and useless organization due to the security council having veto powers.
League of Nations couldn’t stop hitler and the UN won’t be able to stop Israel. Not saying there’s any connection there, just highlighting an example.

JD power and associates gives Israel a bad rating when it comes to its committing of genocide.
Or a good rating, depending on which way JD power and associates is grading.

Since it's about as binding as an Instagram post I'm not sure why we'd even talk about it this many hours later.

I mean... I don't agree with him... but I do think it's okay/should be encouraged for MP's to speak out when they LEGIMTATELY disagree with their party (ie: not just political pandering) otherwise we end up with the useless USA system where no matter how crazy something is they just vote the same way and no comment everything.

I dunno, if anything in the USA system congresspeople and senators can vote against their party without any repercussions from the party at all.
Hence the whole Sinema/Manchin debacle last term.
In Canada, voting against your party is nearly a guarantee to get you kicked out of your party.
The Usa's system, at least of late, has been proving very problematic with trying to actually get anything done because of that.

Perhaps it's more complicated then, the US system seems to show at least on the GOP side they're willing to just go along with crazy for as long as crazy goes on.

Recently, there have been lots of GOP dissenters especially in regard to Speaker of the House. Many voted against party lines. But then it's a shitshow for the GOP as of late.

Yah, there has been... but that was where I was saying not just political pandering... they're all jockeying for position behind whoever they think might be the horse to hitch their carriage to right now.
I highly suspect this particular Liberal MP also has issues with Trudeau and sees that Trudeau is weaksauce right now and is throwing his name out there just to let whoever might take over that he's down to suck their dick next.

If you disagree with a ceasefire that’s killed thousands of children, you’re a clown and you likely have ulterior motives for your actions.
And as mentioned above, it’s not even a ceasefire, it’s the recommendation of one based on the powerless UN vote. So it’s even shittier.

They're dissenting not because they want better governance, they're dissenting because they want to pivot to MORE crazy.
Also as said above, much of that is grandstanding for their own selfish political attention and media gains, Matt Gaetz, for example.

I guess because Grabindeep and his pal, Pal don't know what the fuck they're doing, the government now has to tell them what to do...
...because you know how much difference that'll make...
When one of the overpass strikers is combative with police and the other one just runs away from the scene and is never identified, it sounds government chiding won't make any difference.

LOL rules being introduced to prevent overpass strikes?
As if the financial implications to the trucking companies isn't enough of a deterrent? You can't get rid of stupidity by making a law about not being stupid.

So, for a little bit more relevant news, CPC/NDP/Bloc voted in favour of Bill S-210. Liberals voted no. https://www.michaelgeist.ca/2023/12/...-becoming-law/
It's guised as protecting kids from porn online, but goes wayyy beyond that - essentially you will need to upload government issued ID to access any 'explicit' content. All sorts of fucked up.

I find it more interesting that the Liberals voted against it, good for them.
I wouldn't have guessed that.
NDP voting with CPC? Weird.
