At this point in Canada any policy that drives personal or professional investment out of the country or takes money out of the hands of individuals to give to the government is a BAD policy. Canada has an arterial bleed of talent and investment happening. Cranking up carbon and capital gains taxes exacerbate the aforementioned.

We pay more taxes, we pay more for -everything-, the govt. attempts to implement these measures and taxes which are not proven and have no teeth in terms of efficacy
And EVERYTHING continues to get worse. What has actually improved in the last few years with all this BS? Can anyone list a single item?
These policies which -never- improve quality of life for Canadians are such a detriment to both the govt. and the public, as, to no one’s surpise, all these stories/poles coming out saying the vast majority of Canadians do not approve of the liberals proposed budget.
Yea.. no shit.. because everything is getting worse, and we pay more.

Don't be complaining about the cost of living when you have an empty house that can be making 50k a year.
The house we bought about 15 years ago has almost tripled in price.

Manic, there is more to life than JUST making money. I don't understand why you cannot accept that some people have other priorities/preferences.

When you’re used to living in a house with 30 people, what’s the difference with sharing it with a bunch of strangers I guess.

Among other improvements, the reform sigificantly bumped up the average GP's annual income from $250k to $385k. In the Feb 2024 update, it is said we have ~700 more GPs since the reform.
The provincial gov has also injected quite a bit of money into healthcare -- SMH is getting a new acute care center on top of the new money that they are receving after the SMH doctors publically complained about their abysmal working condition.
SFU is supposed to get a medical school soon.
You can argue that these are nothing more than a drop in the bucket, and I wouldn't disagree. But it isn't all just bad news.
On the federal level, Turd is actually trying to do something now because he is desparate. I can't say that is all good news because he is mostly just throwing money at everything, and ultimately, all that money is just gonna come out of our pockets.

I’d like to see the actual numbers regarding the doctors. Seeing as we are still struggling to keep ER’s open in this province.
Also, are these numbers just meeting a regular standard or we actually exceeding expectations/requirements? If we are exceeding the basic standards, sure we can give them some credit. If all of this was just get to the floor of GP’s and care providers compared to the population numbers, then I’d say again, it’s not enough.
We still see all the time even in the last few months/weeks the shortcomings of our healthcare system whether it’s staffing issues, working conditions, drug use and weapons in hospitals etc.
We can throw money at things but if we are too incompetent to effectively implement change, then like I said, we get nothing for paying more and more.

Dr. Renee Fernandez, executive director of B.C. Family Doctors, says there were 3,400 doctors practising longitudinal family medicine when the changes were introduced last year, and there are now more than 4,100 family doctors practising in the province — an increase of more than 700 people.
| "Primary care" here really refers to family doctors / general practioners (GP). It is not obvious to me how the additional number of GPs came about, since GPs aren't something you can magically pull out of a box. The best guesses are people who have come back from retirement, doctors working in other specialties decided to quit that and come back to family practice, GPs from other provinces coming to practice in BC, new grads, etc.
Of course there is still a significant shortage of family physicians -- a lot of people I know continue to not have a family doctor, including my MIL. On a per capita basis, I'm sure the 700 additional GPs are not enough to meet the demand from population growth, so on a per capita basis, the patient-to-GP ratio was probably still getting worse.
Healthcare is like housing -- there is no magic wand you can wave to make the problem go away in the blink of an eye. You need lead time for people to get trained, and stuff to get built. So in light of that, the 700 new GP figure over only a year is significant.

Details matter though.
If if is like you say, coming out of retirement, that isn’t a long term solution.
We’ve also come basically two full cycles, if not more, of nursing students who could have been trained and practicing since the “Covid emergency” where everyone woke up to how poor shape our system was in, and we were promised improvements and future proofing our system for future issues, has any of that come to fruition?
I’m not trying to be a contrarian to everything, I’m legitimately asking if there are tangible statistics to support anything the govt. touts as a “win” given increases in taxes etc.
My mind always comes back to garbage and recycling services in CoV. I’ve seen double digit increases in property taxes almost every year I’ve lived in Vancouver. Recently being one of the highest. Literally the same month I get a notification on my phone saying green bin won’t even be picked up every week any longer, and EVERY week I get a notification that my recycling hasn’t been picked up as scheduled and to leave it out.

Over 20 years your friends could have made 200k plus and turned that into a million plus buy the time they retired. Buy hey it's hard trying to figure out how to store $500 worth of alcohol when you have vacation renters coming over.

I get what manic is saying but also….. nah.
Some things you just don’t want to compromise on. My privacy, security, serenity at home is way more important than a few measly dollars. Even if I’m not using it. Don’t touch my shit !!!!

At the very least I would expect to be living a life like Lawrence Stroll if I had to sacrifice like what Manic is describing to make it worth it, and not bragging about having a fancy Toyota Corolla in the driveway.

I think 1st gen immigrant will do anything to make $$, 2 jobs, penny-pinch, rent out rooms in their house. 2nd gen have more choices in life and will say no to renting out their places and/or shit for $$.

I’m first gen! And I can say nope to anyone living in my home.
Even if I was destitute I wouldn’t rent out. Just the thought of having strangers in the house gives me the creeps.
