I mean... can't fault government for trying stuff and then it doesn't work, having the humility to say it didn't work and try a different approach.
I'm fine with that every time... a lot better than not doing anything or, arguably worse, saying fuck you we're doing it this way even if it doesn't make sense cuz we have a big ego approach.

i agree, ndp is the only gov that really has seemed to own up to its mistakes. horgan backed down on the victoria museum after all that outrage over the costs. it's not a bad thing to try something and then listen to the public's response to it and change your mind.

That action opened the door to PP grandstanding to call the entire de-criminalization initiative a failure and that they should be re-criminalized outright again and brought about the attacks on Eby.

I'm never quite sure why any fed PM candidate thinks it's worth their time to go after a Premier... I can understand why a Premier would try to punch upwards, and then the fed minister responding in kind... but to just go after for "reasons" seems like an odd strategy.
But PP will re-unite the country right? lol

Why do people having fucking amnesia, specifically you, Honda.
It's not just Vancouver, there was a federal effort both in Canada and the US, roughly around 2020, and somewhat prior to begin the process of decriminalization, loosening drug policy.
Do people not remember during the leadup to COVID the complaints of overcrowding in prisons based on people with charges for petty drug crimes? The idea that saddling a person with a felony drug crime simply resulted in continued recidivism into the prison system? New York, California, Washington, Oregon, many states moved forward in either lowering penalties for drug crimes (drug courts instead), or flat out releasing prisoners with active drug crimes. This was widely agreed upon when these policies were rolled out.
Now we're seeing that perhaps some of these measures were too extreme, or didn't work out the way as envisioned, policies are complicated, and results aren't founded until years later. That's how any effective policy works.
My god people are fucking stupid with these comments, it makes me livid.

Watching the interview with poliviere by zussman was fucking infuriating. The guy is an absolute fucking moron.
Every question was answered with the same stupid generic answer, he continuously used the term "heroin grade opioids" said safe supply was directly responsible for 2500 deaths in BC last year like no one has ever fucking died from drugs until the day they were decriminalized.
The guy just uses hyperbolic talking points to rile up fucking morons. It was absolutely pathetic.
This country is an embarrassment just like the US. Our candidates are a joke and we are fucked, regardless of what happens.
I guarentee the next government will be new levels of bad compared to now, no matter if it's libs or cons.

Hey, let’s follow the “Portuguese” model but build absolutely nothing into the support or recovery side. How often did we hear this BS about the Portuguese model when in reality, our system was -nothing- like it
Now I see crack heads smoking crack pipes and dropping their bundles of dirty needles in ATM outlets with families trying to go in and withdraw money. I’ve seen this 5-6 times now since this decrim. Needles and other shit are wayyyyy more prevalent. Where as it used to be a bit jarring to see some needles or a broken crack pipe here and there, it’s an every day occurrence now, this is not hyperbole.
Fast forward someone OD’s or someone calls the cops on these people and the cops come and move them along, no repercussions, and all their drug paraphernalia there for the cleaner or bank workers to clean up the next day.
Let alone anyone coming in there in the meantime, young kids get to see all this shit etc.
This has been a failure by any measure.
