Again, your quality of life is directly tied to your ability to pay for life. Do you want to go through the list of a million places that have similar incomes but substantially lower housing costs?
I’m not talking about San Francisco or New York. When I was in Portugal I was looking at 3BR condos a walk to the beach for 650K CAD.
A family friend just bought a 100 acre villa south of Florence for 1.2 CAD. We have another family friend who has a place in a gated community in southern Thailand valued around 1.2. If you have 2 million in the bank and bought one of those places you could likely retire and live the rest of your days on the balance. Here in Canada, our “retirement” plan is close to 4 million in order to live the life we want and that’s making the assumption we’re both going to work until 55 (another 15+ years)
Even in Australia, you can live outside of major cities for fractions of what it costs here. Kelowna which is what, 4+ hours away costs as much as Burnaby or Langley?
Places that cost less to live give you more flexibility for literally EVERYTHING else. What are you hanging your hat on here? If you’re a household making sub 100k and renting YOURE FUCKED
You can wait a month to see a doctor about an ear infection? Or you can pay $6 for a couple apples? Lol wonderful.
Revscene demographic is obviously skewed because most of us are likely at an age where we got into homes before everything went fully insane, most of us are likely well into established careers etc.
If you’re an average person, working an average job, between the ages of 18 and 40 and you don’t have a GREAT job and a home that you own, you’re fucked. It’s as simple as that. You simply cannot afford to live a comfortable life.
Imagine living in a situation where simply keeping a roof over your head relied entirely on you just puting in hours at a menial job. There is -no- way to get ahead for the vast majority of our population.

For that matter, I'm surprised there aren't stronger sentiments within the Liberal party to call fro Turd to step down.
I guess people in the party would rather see the ship sink for at least 4 years instead of risking their own political future within the party?

1.2M in Thailand? The guy have a fucking small army at his beck and call too or what? lol. A cousin of mine in Malaysia, a wealthier and more expensive country to the south, just spent only 600K on his massive new build 3-story house on a hilltop gated community.
Comon it's clear all the examples you provided of are your friends who have a very, very privileged life. You're basically telling everyone middle class in Canada, hey we can't be elite wealthy foreigners here, so let's go move to a country and fuck up their housing because why not we deserve it!!
I mean you're not at hehe levels of delusional when it comes to living in a bubble but man the more you talk about your friends and "family friends" and "friends of the family" it sounds like you have completely lost perspective on what normal regular Canadians can actually do.

Bro the median annual income in Portugal is ELEVEN THOUSAND FUCKING EUROS.
Go ahead and buy the 650k villa there but the fact is you couldn't fucking do that if you lived there like a normal person. You use your privileged Canadian lifestyle, and wages earned IN CANADA to live well there. Explain to me how their economy is thriving with those ratios and we are a shithole.
Yeah I can go buy a mansion in Cambodia for $300 but unless I commute to my job here in Vancouver my $1 a month that I make there isn't going to pay for it. Your entire arguments about affordability are based on making money at a job thousands of miles away in a completely different economy.

That “privileged lifestyle” came with like 11 years of post-secondary between us.
As per CB, what else can I use other than anecdotal evidence of better situations? These are people I see on a monthly basis, I know them well. I’m not just reading some pie in the sky stories online.
Obviously not everyone can just up and leave, for most people it’s impossible to any degree because you’re stuck in the hamster ball just trying to keep a roof over your head, somthing like getting on a plane is out of reach for most Canadians

I can tell you unless I somehow opened a massively thriving business in any of those places my wage would go down substantially and probably ratio out the same as living here, maybe not for my wife though depending on how much the country valued healthcare workers.
I know you work/run a business in building/construction, but not sure exactly what, but wouldn't you be making much less in a place like that to build much cheaper housing? It only makes sense that would be the case, but I don't know exactly what you do.

Both of us are in project management/engineering side now, fairly transferable
I’d love to move to Portugal but my situation here continues to evolve in a way that it’s far more beneficial for my retirement to stay. My wife however may go do her masters in Portugal, probably find a new Portuguese stud and leave me

I forget how many will receive them but I'm pretty sure the number is fairly large. That would make complete sense why they are standing pat since everyone knows the Liberals will not get reelected.

Have you checked if your degrees/diplomas/certifications are transferable and looked at actual job postings for your position in Europe? Salary discussions pop up pretty regularly in my industry and they make half what I make here, with better qualifications, being able to fluently speak the language, and knowing the local standards. In Asia it's way lower still.
Realistically the only place I could try to go is the UK and even then I could only count on making 1/3 of my current salary.

The language barrier would obviously be an issue but increasingly the language of business in Europe seems to be English.
Again, likely a pipe dream but I think we could do quite well abroad. We both also have our PMP’s and other designations that would, at the very least, be respected elsewhere if not accepted outright

portugal may seem 'cheap' now but it was way cheaper before, and its because of people like you who want to become immigrants there. they are experiencing the same problems as we are here just in the earlier stages. thats why like westopher said, the average local wage is low af.

It also seems like they have been a haven for Russians who fled during the draft were trying to get EU citizenship.
I got mine all fair and square through my wife’s lineage. Carrying an EU passport, imo, it’s a bit more legitimate moving somewhere and contributing as opposed to just buying your way in and not holding a citizenship.
Even with all that it’s still substantially cheaper to live there than here. I could probably uproot here, sell off everything, and be bordering on retirement at 40 in Portugal.

I think most people would never go through with it once they found out how much work it is. I give my wife credit for actually following through, the consulate is absolutely useless so you have to be incredibly proactive in your application. If we didn’t live as close as we do to downtown, I doubt it would have gotten done.
As well, she had to register a marriage and two separate death certificates in Portugal, and find a birth certificate from a church in the Azores. It was pretty crazy but eventually a citizenship card showed up in the mail lol
Unlike the Indian guys, we bring about 200k of education paid for out of pocket there lol.. steal a Portuguese guys job at a Pasteise De Nada shop?

Well that's the thing, you haven't provided any tangible benefit to your potential new home and yet received citizenship ante facto not even via your own bloodline.
Whereas Gurpreet has, in whatever miniscule way, at least provided his labour and gotten but a temporary permit in return.

That’s my right being born here. Odds are I’d pay for anything I needed over there. However, my primary citizenship is here, I was born here. So it’s my right to hold both. Simple.
If it ever became a detriment like is being tossed around now that Turd wants to charge people a fee who leave for residency elsewhere, I’d maybe consider it. But holding both benefits me, I care about, me. So I really couldn’t care less about your perception that I hAtE cAnAdUrrrr! I’ll do anything that benefits me in order to get ahead. No one else is going to do shit for me lol

Repeat sex offender and overall freak Randal Hopley gets 18 months after most speculated he would get 4 years: https://www.nsnews.com/highlights/co...months-8817896
During his court hearing he had an outburst arguing with the judge over how many sexual assaults he has had… there is also people saying that there are articles out there saying that when he ran out on his halfway house recently, he blatantly told the police that if it had been warm and summer he wouldn’t have turned himself in at all? Lol
Jfc.. FIVE sexual assaults and a child abduction, severely breaching your bail conditions multiple times, and you barely spend 5 years total encarcerared..
