Why is it all Indians being brought in as TFW's, are people from other countries not willing to do this kind of work? Seems odd to only bring people in from one country instead of several different places but I guess if you need to live in a basement with 5 dudes to make it here that might be the case.

All I can say is that the data and the numbers support the take that there is no unskilled labour shortage. Throw in hundreds of thousands of international students and TFW and it further supports that take. It's all objective and non-anecdotal.
Perhaps there is a labour shortage in your area, but that isn't reflective of all of Canada. People line up for blocks for a single entry level jobs in parts of Ontario right now. If I were to assume that everywhere across Canada was like that, we'd be at record unemployment levels - which as the numbers shows is not.

From my understanding, all the smart and educated ones go to the US or UK. Canada is a fall back plan for everyone else.
Those countries also put a limit on permits per country, something that Canada doesn't. I think the last official data for international students in 2023 had Indians being the majority at 40 something percent. It's probably a bit higher now.
As to why they're all from Punjab, maybe Manic knows?

Manic, please make a compelling argument for the benefit of Canada bringing over half of uneducated Punjab.
Outside of propping up these globo national corporations that provide virtually nothing to Canadian society in your Tim Hortons, Wendy’s, Subway, McDonald’s, what exactly are these people bringing to Canada?
They come here with undiagnosed medical conditions, they clog up the healthcare system, they abuse and are abused by labour laws, for what? The sake of peoples convenience with shitty fast food on every corner? Most aren’t even competent enough to be labourers in the construction industry.
Get rid of a third of these places these people work and we wouldn’t need their labour a longer.
We are losing educated professionals in exchange for uneducated labour. At the same time driving up rent prices, promoting disgusting housing arrangements, and generally deteriorating Canadian society.
Your “average” person is now coming to grips with what a problem this is. What’s going to be fucking hilarious is that PP is probably going to win a majority govt with barely a plan because all these liberal issues are just snowballing and coming to light more and more everyday.

You have a classmate or friend/family member come here and then start telling everyone how great Canada is. Canada has a very strong Sikh community that was started in the late 1800's. So it's easy for people from India to adjust to Canada. You would have a way easier time moving to a place in England than a remote village in China. You also have a lot of split families. one brother or sister may have come to Canada in the 60's or 70's while the other stayed behind. Now there are bringing over there nieces and nephews form India. Finally You have a whole immigration system in place with companies and agents in place to help people come to Canada.
Does not matter who wins the next election JT or PP it's not going to change.

I’d also say that propping up all these shitty chains with cheap labour obviously has an adverse effect on small business and hole in the wall restaurants as why would any restaurateur want to try to afford a space next to a guy who can staff a subway with 8 TFW sharing the same bed? It’s impossible to keep up with the rising rents paid for by cheap labour, both on the housing side and business side

It's a race to the bottom for these establishments. Cut cost on the labour, cut cost on the food, and make money off of volume based strictly on there being no other options.

Aye. I thought about it too.
I had an opportunity recently to move to Tacoma. Get paid in usd for quite a bit more than staying here but we just got this house and are still settling in.
I’d have to go rent a place down there for 2k usd a month and only see the wife every weekend. Didn’t seem like it’s worth it.
