Well yea..actually moving somewhere likely takes the money you already don’t have by living here.

Mexico is really the only feasible option

And people of working age from developed countries really only move to places they have a connection to.

Whether it's their ancestral home province/country, or the spouse's home province/country, or their job sends them out there.

Rarely do people here ever sell everything and strike it out on their own in a completely foreign place like immigrants do when they come here. If they do it's only when they're financially independent/retired.

And well, guess what? Most places such as these are also expensive or have other issues which don't make it attractive or feasible for working stiffs to move to easily.

Hence why most people stay put.

For the last couple decades the avenue for wealth was real estate, promoted and pushed by the govt. now the plebs buy up a second home etc. under the assumption they could airbnb or make a minuscule profit off their investment and the govt. flips on a dime on both the short term rental and capital gains.

Why didn’t they just tax the fuck out of high income owners? Out of corporate tax, etc. ?

Because it’s always safer to punish the people who have lesser power?

Jagmeet has said he will kick out any member of his party that has worked with a foreign government. He also thinks a foreign government interfered with the conservative leadership race and wants it investigated.

https://www.youtube.com/live/0rkLBOe...W7PHZYwbt&t=39

PP on the other hand does not want to talk about it.

Pierre Poilievre isn’t exactly known for holding his tongue, least of all when it’s on an issue that could hurt Justin Trudeau’s Liberals. As Immigration Minister Marc Miller quipped recently, “that guy’s never shut his mouth in his life.” And yet, when it comes to the question of foreign interference in Canadian democracy, one that was raised again in a recent report from the National Security and Intelligence Committee of Parliamentarians, the Conservative Party of Canada leader has been uncharacteristically quiet.

Mexico is quickly no longer becoming an option to run away and retire to on the cheap.

This last trip to PV/Mexico City was an eye opener. We looked at some condos, prices have gone up by a huge margin from even 2 years ago. The price of day-to-day goods, food, even gas has jumped up a lot.

We were pretty much paying close to Vancouver prices for food and drinks in both cities, I was shocked by how much this exodos of expats have made such a huge impact on costs in such a short amount of time (since COVID, which was our last trip to that region).

If you want affordable in Mexico, you'll have to look at more of the off the beaten path spots, such as La Paz, or Oaxaca. Merida is even now getting priced out for many.

yeah prices in mexico are not cheap at all. it's not like going to thailand or vietnam, its like maybe 3/4 of the price we pay here. sure you can get $1 tacos on the street still but you can't eat that every day especially as a tourist you want a decent place to sit down

Cabo is starting to approach Maui in terms of pricing for their nicer resorts/restaurants

It's them goddamn Americans with their S-tier US dollar messing up the whole traveller/expat economy now. Every where they go they are pricing out locals, tipping like they're at Sunday dinner at Applebees, and just generally overpaying for everything.

They've ruined Portugal, much of the rest of Western/Central Europe, Japan, now Mexico. SE Asia is still too far and scary for most Americans so it's still cheap...but for how long?

Yea your post refreshed just as I posted mine lol..

Can’t get shit with CAD.. when we just went to Vegas we had our hotel comped, but to pay for the same 2 queen room at the Venetian would have been $800 a night..

We decided after this last Mexico trip to take a break from there, given we were just in Thailand in February, the contrast in pricing of rentals, food, drinks, etc., was quite stark in comparison.

It's sad really, I've been to Mexico too many times to count, the value just isn't there like it used to be.

68style is totally right too, I heard those comments from quite a few locals, complaining about how expensive rent has become due to all these expats/digital nomads moving down.

Time to start ruining the next 3rd world tropical spots

The value proposition goes down as the flight gets longer for us

Can probably live like a king in Argentina or Brazil right now but takes 20 fucking hours to get there

who would want to go to Argentina/Brazil when the crime is so bad and getting murdered is an every day occurrence. I know Mexico isn't the safest either but nothing like what you have to deal with when you go further down south.

Didn’t feel like perpetuating an argument lol

I don’t care for South America as a tourist destination given the options but I wouldn’t be “scared” to travel to most places

But have you even been south of Mexico doe?

Can't really generalize a whole continent man. You've got places like Peru, Chile and Uruguay which can be as safe as any first world country. Places in Brazil and Colombia can be sketchy but I've never had any problems. Then Argentina the basket case of an economy which was fine 7 years ago but who knows now. Then Venezuela which is a no go zone right now.

i spent some time in chile and absolutely loved it! especially patagonia, but also driving up the country. also enjoyed peru quite a bit, i don't see why these types of places wouldn't be high on anyone's list of places to travel
