This city is so retarded. Either you are in so much excess you can buy trash for lawls or you are dumpster diving food banks for your next meal. Middle class is dead

I think it's safe to assume most individuals making 50-60k are not paying for a mortgage independently. Market-rate rent and everyday expenses alone will eat up most of the after-tax cash flow.

Badhobz 07-03-2024 02:30 PM

^indeed ! Hell most likely rent is more than 2500 a month right now so I’m really not sure how these people are making it. All the while chuckle heads are buying Mitsubishi toasters and spot prawns at 36 bucks per lb.

I profoundly dislike socialism but this is where the government needs to step in and correct this disaster.
No middle class = no more western society. If you’re only left with destitute people and ultra rich Porsche douche bags, society goes to hell

Excuse me while I go buy a Porsche and raid food bank afterwards

Just think about retirement, with the cost of everything these days most people are not investing like they have in the past. I really wonder how the younger generations are going to be able to retire if they are not going to be inheriting from family. If things don't change quick its going to get worse and worse and I can't even fathom what people are doing to do to survive.

Jesus prices are nuts this summer.

We just rented a place for 4 nights in Vernon, middle this month, same Airbnb we stayed at 2 years ago, now double the price.

Going to Chris Brown in Seattle end of this month, hotel rooms downtown are $500 a night. Same hotel last year around the same time was $300 (we had seen 50 Cent down there).

Penticton is crazy now too, I miss being able to stay at a motel for $100-120 a night only years ago.

Pretty nuts, thank god we don't have kiddos.

Hondaracer 07-04-2024 11:34 AM

So we went for dinner at Poplar grove last night, relatively fancy, beautiful spot etc.

Few glasses of wine, a beer, dessert, a 20% tip and it’s like $170

I feel almost like when I was in Switzerland in that, the lower end bars and restaurants aren’t even worth it because for slightly more, you can get actual dining because those nicer places know they can’t charge 50% more than previously

Don’t even want to look at the credit card bill

Chris Brown is playing at Rogers Arena end of this month. Can't you just stay here and watch him here? I can't see his concert being sold out.

I'm looking at hotels in Boston for September, it's fucking insane how it's more expensive than Manhattan. I'm talking minimum $700/night for a run of the mill 4* chain hotel.

whitev70r 07-04-2024 02:14 PM

That's why you don't travel in July or August for vacay ... if you don't have to. May June, Sept Oct are your best friends when it comes to travelling.

These prices are like this all the time, there is no relief from shoulder seasons now

whitev70r 07-04-2024 02:44 PM

Do a check and I'm sure you will save $100/nt ... for 4-5 nights ... that's substantial.

Post a pic of comparison dates in shoulder season vs. July and Aug, for a $400-500/nt hotel and show me that you don't save at least $100/nt.

Hondaracer 07-04-2024 02:56 PM

Why would you go to these summer places in the shoulder season though? Lol

You go to a place that your whole vacation is based on the sun and lake in October? The point being is most people are priced out of these summer vacations that used to be the “cheap” vacations as opposed to getting on a plane.

The demographic here in Penticton is interesting, clearly a lot of Americans, Albertans, but I’ve also been hearing quite a bit of German. And the typical grey hairs are the predominant faction. We are likely 10-20 years younger than most people outside of families dragging their kids around

68style 07-04-2024 02:58 PM

I don't doubt it's $100 a night cheaper... but is 20% off the norm for shoulder season? I remember it being half price or less.

Maybe because the Okanagan is hot as hell in July and August? Not to mention possibility of smoke, forest fire. Have you travelled in Sept or May ... glorious! (Not that Sept is guaranteed to be out of forest fire season but ...)

Fall ... there are great things about the fall, colors, that cool fall air ...

Hondaracer 07-04-2024 03:45 PM

It’s perfectly fine for a couple like us who also have friends up here

But what do you do as a family who wanted time at the beach etc? Penticton, Oliver, Osoyoos etc. don’t really offer much for entertainment outside of good weather

I am going in September. I thought it would be cheaper but apparently a ton of hotel rooms are booked out for conventions and student's relatives (since there are so many universities and colleges there)

October is also peak with fall foliage. November? Cold AF. December? Holiday season! Jan, Feb, March may be the only cheap months, relatively speaking, anywhere these days

PP is doing speeches at evangelical churches now.
Fucking super.
I wonder if he will do a mosque next or if that doesn't align......

He has gone from supporting barbaric cultural practices hot line to now trying to get votes from Muslims. Right wing Christians and Muslims have a lot in common.

Kamel El-Cheikh a Muslim was the orginizer of the Million March 4 children. An anti LGBTQ+ protest that happened across Canada last year.

westopher 07-04-2024 07:03 PM

He's down with whatever religion as long as it's extreme enough to love bigotry I guess lol.

whitev70r 07-04-2024 07:03 PM

^ What surprises you about that? PP is Trump copycat wannabe.

westopher 07-04-2024 07:08 PM

I'm not surprised. I'm just fucking disgusted.
Religion has no place in politics. Believe in whatever you want but if you think laws need to be put in place based on these beliefs you can eat the creamiest bowl of shit. (The Royal you, not you personally as I'm not implying that's what you think)

Hondaracer 07-04-2024 07:35 PM

Like.. propping up Jews to kill Palestinians?….

westopher 07-04-2024 08:13 PM

I think anyone who's providing Israel with weapons like genocide Joe or Trudeau or whoever should be found guilty of war crimes.

We could, but I prefer the demographic in the States when going to these types of concerts.

More of an eclectic mix of people, different eye candy.

Plus it's an excuse to get drunk in downtown Seattle. Not only that, we got better tickets closer to stage for about $200 less than the Vancouver show, as usual.

I get it, the demo at the Snoop/Warren G concert was giving off a total 90s White kids from Surrey/Langley/Nanaimo/etc. vibe ifyannowwadimean
