What's even more bonkers is the people who are boo'ing and acting disappointed like she's one of the non-believers now. That's my premiere now!!! lol |

Well.. it’s pretty easy to see why you have incompetent representation in certain ridings. If that riding has always voted one way, you’re not going to place a person who might have a chance in another riding there. I think generally the Hastings riding is full of ignorant people which is why the crook Jenny Kwan has remained in power almost certainly because she is Asian and not much else. She’s literally done nothing for her constituents and has been plagued by scandals. |
so i can run in that riding based soley on being asian? :considered: https://media0.giphy.com/media/j6uK3...giphy.gif&ct=g |

Using public funding to pay for her family's trip to Disney and Europe in 2014 haha. She only repaid 35 grand for those trips because the Portland Housing Society was audited for very questionable expenses. https://www.straight.com/blogra/6116...ociety-scandal https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/briti...rips-1.2581899 Corrupt cunt!! |
Jenny Kwan is the definition of a career politician. It's our fault though. I had a few friends ragging on me recently -- "You're so into politics, you know your stuff, why don't you run then?" Me: "I'm not clean enough" :lol There is some truth to their comments though, people sit and complain, but no one actually makes an attempt to run for government, and actually do something about their complaints. Meanwhile you get someone like Jenny who breezes through every 4 years without any real challenger. |
NDP released their full platform today. One of the items is that if they're re-elected they'll introduce speeding tickets tied to the value of the vehicle if over $150,000. Also planning to remove no pet clauses for rentals... |

A career politician needs to have a strong skillset and the money to run a good campaign to win an election at any level. Highly extroverted person who is great at talking to the media, excellent negotiation skills, and a quick thinker on their feet. Then you need to have the stomach to see your political opponents bash you verbally and make verbal swipes at you through the media, or in debates. The mud slinging in politics sounds pretty bad. For example, you have career politicians like PP boy Poilievre who comes up with the bully taunts to call at Jagmeet. "Sell out Singh". Big bullies, terrible people like Donald Trump wanting to run for the US presidency again. A liar, a racist, corrupt businessman. Then you have politicians like John Rustad who just look like crooks. :lawl: |
not sure how i feel about tying the cost of a ticket to the car value. if someone is driving a ferrari and doing 20 over then should they get hit with a 10k fine? i think excessive speed should be much more severe especially on city streets, but otherwise i think regular speeding tickets tied to car value could mean cops could unfairly target those types of cars for just normal everyday speeding. |
Without the specifics of how it'll work it's impossible to say if it would be unfair or not. But in general I like the idea that the fine scales. As it sits even an excessive ticket is nothing to someone with a $150k+ car. |
The main question for me is, what is the current proportion of speeding tickets by $150,000 vehicles versus all speeding tickets issued? While you hear of a few instances which are made high profile by the media just because "exotic car", I'm willing to bet that overall speeding infractions by that group is extremely low. Seems more like "eat the rich" points pandering by the NDP to their base then policy that's going to actually make an effective difference. Also, what determines that $150k value? MSRP, or blue book? |
I like that the idea is that you don't just get to speed because you are rich. Fine means legal for a price. I agree with Unit though where it should be for egregious circumstances though. Not like 15 over the limit. |
Should turn it around so that the cheaper the shit box, the less of a fine |
My point is how many people who drive these sort of cars are treating speeding that way? The cars already get impounded for 40 over, and in extreme cases civil forfeiture takes it (Ie that ferrari and BMW racing up seymour a bunch of years ago). That's not significant enough? Maybe my perception is skewed here on the island but whenever I see supercars on the road (mostly commonly going up the malahat to VIMC) they're the slowest thing on the road probably because they know people are watching them do anything wrong. I mean I'll never own a $150k+ vehicle so this doesn't impact me, but what mostly bothers me is inventing a problem that doesn't really exist and trying to score class war points out of it. I don't know why but it just rubs me the wrong way. |
What your describing is politics. |

Of course there’s not much you can do about preventing anyone who gets behind the wheel from not being licensed either… |
I don't mind the policy, but I agree it's way too irrelevant to even mention right now in campaigning. It's pandering to the Karens that hate fast cars, just like that piece of shit mayor did when pushing the VI blitz. Again though I would appreciate bigger penalties for the egregious things like driving without a license, DUIs, distracted driving, reckless speeding etc. would be great to fuck the guys in the supercars that can say oh fuck it it's a 10k fine, etc. |
I thought there wasn't a points limit with a class 5? Either way the first one is only going to be a mild inconvenience until it expires. Odds are they have multiple cars so even an impound for a week isn't really a big deal. Around here a lot of them are definitely not the slowest thing on the road, they're not going to tracks and they're doing things wrong all the time. None of us have access to the actual stats so we can't really say if the problem exists or not. Even if it's made up I'd consider it a good sign that if they're going to invent a problem it's such a minor thing compared to what a lot of other politicians make up these days lol. It's only one thing out of a huge list and it's not highlighted in any special way so it doesn't look like they're trying to use it as some major campaign point. Tbh it seems odd that it was picked up on by the regular news and not just on here. |
You live in rich entitled dbag HQ tho hahah I mean I’m not even wealthy by this qualification and technically an impound and big ticket wouldn’t break me in any way either. And I got multiple cars… you can probably say the same too wouldn’t break you and you got another car. I think Westopher is on point, total Karen pander lol |
That speeding fine based on your net worth is what they have in uhhh Sweden or Norway or Finland.. some Scandinavian country that I’m too lazy to google. One dude got hit with like a 100k fine cuz his net worth was like 10 billion Seems like ndp wanna go that way but too chicken shit to fully implement that cuz too many rich assholes in bc. |
As to westophers point I think it would have way more teeth to punish people for actual crimes like DUI’s etc. I know some people who got pretty substantial DUI’s with previous records of impaired driving and like 5-6k and 2 months later you’re back driving. Hardly a “punishment” given the crime imo. The biggest deterrent for anything is heavy financial punishment |
Yeah I'd be annoyed but it wouldn't cause me any significant difficulty. But if they decide to then go the other way as well and reduce fines for cheap vehicles I wouldn't complain. On paper ICBC considers my car to be worth $500. |
I am ok with fine according to income. Nevertheless, it should apply to more serious violations. Speeding 10-15 over, that's like the regular speed here unless you are some sort of saint/grandma. Like, DUI should be very harsh, because there is no reason at all to do that and there's severe potential outcomes. But doing 10-15km over in a 50/60/70/100km zone? That's like how we actually drive every day?!? I call BS for anyone claiming they are always following the posted speed limit. Not here in GVR at least. |
Yah pshaw I mean... I think I'm rarely anything less than 20 over... pretty much 65-70 in 50 errrry day |
