Welp, what can I tell you. I'm laying it out clear as a financial planner would. You might need to put less money away for retirement, you might need to take cheaper vacations, you maybe should have bought a cheaper home. Sometimes you can't just get everything you want and say the reason you don't have extra is because of other circumstances.
Do I believe you deserve a nice home and a nice car and vacations for that wage? Absolutely. But to say your struggling is honestly a joke. At that point, figure it out.

At that point, figure it out. | I didn't say I was struggling, but merely, by the data, we are paycheque to paycheque even with a high income. We can for sure make cuts and I outlined where cuts can be made if we really need it.
Is it sometime stressful? Yeah. But we are also trying to make our money work to the max. RRSP matching, it's free money. Stock buying program, it's free money. It reduces our monthly cash flow but it increases it later on.
We don't carry credit card debt, we don't owe money on our cars. We only have a mortgage. I'd say we are doing a lot better than most ppl despite paycheque to paycheque. Quote:

Paycheque to paycheque = struggling
It's like saying "I have no money" and then saying "no all that money doesn't count"
You're either bitching about nothing, or you are bad with money. Pick one, but it's not neither.

you stupid guangdong bastard!
on a more serious note. Im sure evo is exaggerating a bit when he says hes living pay cheque to pay cheque. like most smart Asians, he's probably got a nest egg or an emergency cord to bail him out in case all hell breaks loose. Im sure both sides of their parents can support them a bit, and im sure, like most young Asian guys, hes spending on stupid shit for lawls. Its okay, you gotta live. Whats the point of having all the money if you arent spending it to make you happy.
I salute you my brother! you got your shit straight. you make good money, youre raising (in all likelihood, considering you are their dad) great kids. Im not worried about you at all. Im more worried about yray dying from all those toxic fumes in his range rover.

You're either bitching about nothing, or you are bad with money. Pick one, but it's not neither. | I was not bitching, it wasn't even pointed at you, I was merely stating that paycheque to paycheque isn't a great metric and can mean a ton depend on who you talk to (that probably got lost somewhere between my poor writing and communication skills that doesn't involve memes). You picked it up and ran with it.

Mutiny is coming Some Liberal MPs are mounting a new effort to oust Justin Trudeau https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/ous...ment-1.7350967
Some MPs are being asked to sign their names to what amounts to a pledge to stand together in calling for Trudeau to resign, multiple sources said.
These sources said at least 20 MPs have signed the document so far, with others voicing their support for the cause.
One MP who signed the document told CBC News the number of MP signatures has spilled onto a second page.

I'm not shitting on here, maybe except some entitled Quebec ppl
I'm from HK, no way in hell would I be able to live in such a big house and own two BMWs if my parents stayed there, so I'm thankful for that.
EDIT: to be honest, it was more of a, Canada isn't so bad, we are paycheque to paycheque based on the data, and we live a pretty good life.

I mean come on… even those cheapy Chinese food at yohan (3 meat dishes 1 veggy) used to be like 30 dollars. Now it’s 60 bucks. | Bro are you eating gold or what?
Two people dining out at a reasonable restaurant like The Keg, I can get it down to about $66 before tax and tips by ordering a 18oz prime rib and requesting it to split the portion in half, and sharing a billy miner cake
McDonald's dine in, you can get a Mcdouble Combo for $5.79, and keep refilling the small drink (depends if the McDonald's is equipped with the self serve pop dispenser) , want to get slightly adventurous? Add an extra beef patty for about $1.15
Ramen you can do Kintaro, get the BBQ Pork Ramen (4 different flavors to choose from) starting at $17.75, comes with a generous amount of sliced pork, at least 5 big slices.
Pho Noodles, you can get it for $10 bucks between the hours of 2pm to 6pm at Chao Mami in Burnaby.
Chinese take out, yes that's getting pricey whether it's Yaohan or Kent's Kitchen
EDIT:
Back to the McDonald's part, I mentioned in the McDonald's thread where you can get a grilled chicken sandwich combo with medium fries and medium drink for $7.29 at Metrotown, Brentwood, and Burnaby Hastings

Go to the keg and split a fucking steak?
Yea, I can spend $3 at McDonald’s if I only get an ice cream cone.
Get real.

Of all the things to go to a restaurant, don't get a steak and baked potato lol. Literally 4 minutes of work at home and $18 will get you beyond keg quality food.

My parents told me last night they voted for the BC Cons - it wasn't entirely surprising because my dad buys into grievance politics and gets conned by every lie Conservatives tell about society but it also made me sad that they'd actively ignore how despicable the BC Cons are. The BC Cons will actively make their lives worse and they don't get it.
It'd be one thing for them to say they're voting for BC United (before they melted down) but voting for a party that denies climate change, harbours racists of every type, are anti-vax, and treat gov't solely as the problem is crazy.

It's probably solidly midpack here on RS anyways considering some of the fancy shit you guys drive. | Dude, $270k household is around top 2% in HHI in Canada and even adjusted for Vancouver COL it's going to be no worse than top 5%. You're more than double the median HHI in Vancouver too. If you're paycheque to paycheque at that income level it would probably be advisable to sit down with a financial planner ( https://www.valueofsimple.ca/links/d...only-planners/) to see where you stand financially both in the day to day but also for retirement.
I hired one this past summer (cost me $6k) and the advice and plan was worth far more than the cost - it was a big investment of my own time and my wife was skeptical at first but it was the best use of $6k I've had in years.

Search perfect prime rib on YouTube it’s where you cook a room temp roast for 5 minutes times the pounds of the roast at 500 deg, then shut the oven off and let the residual heat cook for 2 hours
Every time I’ve made it it’s been perfect

When you have more than 1 kid, it changes things. Everyone dumping on this convo either has no kids or only 1 kid.
270K is not living large these days if you have a detached house, multiple vehicles, and multiple kids with child care costs. It's comfortable, but it's not like you're eating dinners out all of the time or taking vacations with airplanes multiple times of the year.

What you’re saying though even that’s a pretty big stretch and clearly you’re not living within your means even with 2 kids if you’re making 270k a year.
You’re living a lifestyle that isn’t aligning with reality. And again, underlines the shitty unaffordability situation in Vancouver/Canada.
As per the above post, you’re in the top 2% of earners in Canada and you can’t take a fucking vacation? This whole discussion underlined exactly what I’ve been talking about.
The median income in Canada is $68,000
Rent for a 1br is $2900 x 12 =$34,800.00
Half your earnings going to living expenses before anything else. And you don’t think people in Canada are living miserable fucking lives? Lol

We're nowhere close to 270K, but I can see the point about "paycheque to paycheque" at that level when you have these other costs, like housing costs.

So to EvoFires point, even though he’s carrying a big mortgage, he actually sounds like he had “good” timing in terms of purchasing a detached and the price point at that time
How can anyone do that now? Lol
EvoFire could you afford your home at current prices?

It's comfortable, but it's not like you're eating dinners out all of the time or taking vacations with airplanes multiple times of the year. | 2 kids certainly makes it harder especially when both are in daycare (and you're not in a $10/day one) and I suspect Evo is in that crunchy period that I also went through in the last couple years where the mortgage and daycare eat up nearly everything. That said, I find it a bit hard to reconcile "paycheque to paycheque" with buying an X5 a couple months ago - I'm not trying to be critical of Evo here, it's his call how to handle his finances and he's pointed out that he's not complaining about his situation but $270k is a LOT of money even in Vancouver.
