Sure, $100?

whitev70r 10-23-2024 12:06 PM

If you like, I can hold the $100 in trust till the next federal election.

I'm with Manic on this one -- Burnaby south is pretty staunchly loyal to the left, and while I still think Jagmeet is a useless politician, he actually got things done for his NDP supporters (Canada-wide) -- the national dental program got off to a rough start, but the pieces are slowly picking up. IMO the national pharmacare program is a joke since the scope is so narrow, but for those who need the diabetes medication, it is still a god-send.

unit 10-23-2024 12:57 PM

just look at the federal election and you will see that the ndp won every riding. however federal could be different because it will lean even harder to the right due to the popularity of the conservatives. you really can't be too certain.

sorry i dont know what i was smoking when i wrote this.

meant to say in the provincial election the ndp won every riding in burnaby

How can you call him useless and then list things he has gotten done. He has done way more than PP has ever done.

There is a lot of chatter on Reddit about Richmond ridings going blue because all the mainland Chinese and aunties are scared of crime and drug use and they all perpetuate these stereotypes to one another in their little chats etc

Essentially ignorant people who don’t balance reality with rumour , which is how I feel my riding has kept NDP around for so long.

I think by the time the fed election rolls around people in thay south Burnaby riding will be seeing the effects of increase drug use, homelessness, and crime (which, according to Reddit seems rampant in this riding) if they haven’t already, Metrotown looking like the DTES in spots.

So I think it’s going to be a tall task to ask Jagmeet to hold onto the seat the way thing are going. Especially with the cons going to be pumping crime and drug use hard in their campaign.

Since PP became the head of the Conservative Party in 2022, he's done little or nothing governmental besides heckle non-stop and campaign.

He's voted with the Liberal and NDP governments on a variety of issues and asked for audits on a couple of issues. That's pretty much it. The rest of the time he's just jawing away.

Richmond usually does vote blue anyway... and yes cuz China people only care about $ and perceived crime and supposedly Cons are better at that even tho the stats show that to be untrue.

Also mis-contrued?! Feds aren't patrollin the streets of Richmond ffs........... man people are so stupid, don't understand at all how the various levels of government work.

Hondaracer 10-23-2024 01:49 PM

Well.. proper bail reform at the federal level would likely put a bit of a dent in crime but yea.. feds ain’t gonna do shit when it comes to south Burnaby.

Mikoyan 10-23-2024 02:21 PM

Yup my parents voted blue because they want "those people to stop getting free drugs and get locked up in jail for 10 years"

You'd have to brawl every once in a while in the Costco parking lot though.

Jagmeet was able to wring the dental and pharmacare concessions out of Turd purely bcos of how the circumstances were, with the Liberals needing NDP support to sustain the supply and confidence agreement, not because Jagmeet was actually an effective politician. It is also important to note the timing of when the dental and pharmacare programs came about -- negotiations only went through bcos Turd and the Libs saw how their approval ratings tanked, while Cons support soared. For the Liberals, they were definitely hoping the passage of both programs would boost their voter support in the polls.

That means during all this time, Jagmeet was absolutely useless in moving the programs foward. Everything was within Turd and the Libs' control, and if it wasn't for the Liberals so desparately grasping for voter support because of their plight, Jagmeet wouldn't be able to claim any credit for getting his goals done.

It's funny how stuff like this didn't gain traction much earlier when the writing was already on the wall. I vivdly remember writing here on RS quite a while ago, possibly when the Libs' approval rating started tanking, that the Liberal MPs should have revolted against Turd bcos they would be losing their jobs.

Also,

The prime minister also got emotional at one point as he told MPs about the toll his long political career has taken on his three children, sources said.
I called this one back in Aug 2023 when Turd was going through his divorce:

At this point in the political scene, he is definitely a negative asset to the Liberals Party as far as the next election is concerned. So if he quits the PM race, the Libs would actually have a better chance against PeePee, but it does mean the Liberals would need a fresh face to lead the charge, and I don't think Chrystia Freeland would be that person (since she pissed people off with the unsubscribe to Disney+ / Netflix comment).

So getting emotional about his children now feels more like crocodile tears than anything else...

And now it is too late to turn this sinking Liberals shit... I mean, ship around.

Hondaracer 10-23-2024 02:44 PM

Hundreds of thousands of kids are in literal dire straights because of his guidance. I’m sure his stupid kids will be perfectly fine flying private jets and visiting mommy’s new boyfriend for the rest of their lives.

You destroyed your marriage, your family name, and reputation, all to go down as one of, if not the worst PM is this countries history.

Politics is nothing but ego as I said.

The big development that is being reflected here is that higher income and the educated voter is now supporting the NDP, which wasn't the case a few cycles ago.

I need to check in with the quieter ppl in our 25-30 group adn see wha thappened
Most of the boyz following politics voted NDP, even the 200-400k earners/landowners/small project developers

WE're not rich enough yet to make campaign donations, maybe when we start doing really big projects/owning factories and means of production we will start voting conservative
I think they're low key easier to influence lol

edit: the girls did mail in ballots, they all have 1.5M apartments paid by parents lol, NDP voters styll

westopher 10-23-2024 03:25 PM

I don't understand at this point what motivates Trudeau. He's not succeeding, he's disliked by almost everyone. It can't be fun being in that position?
He doesn't really even have power at this point without NDP backing.
I see PP is motivated by the same things guys like Elon, Peterson and Martin prince. Being queen of the summer to all the idiots. Jagmeet at least seems like he has some genuine interest in moving things forward. It's a shame the last 10 years have happened like they did, where the political arena is actually a sports arena now where it's just "I want my team to win" instead of having an actual interest in who would make their lives better, or try for that matter.
What's PP gonna do when he can't bitch about leadership anymore? It's all just lipwork for power, then when he gets it, it's going to be clearly apparent he has no fucking clue what to do with it, because he's spent his entire time just complaining about problems as opposed to offering a platform of solutions.

AstulzerRZD 10-23-2024 03:27 PM

IMO at this point, it's too late to rebrand the party / dislike and he's the fall guy. Chrystia might've been able to go into the next election but her economic plan was deeply disliked (even within the BC NDP voting friends in the chat!)

Trudy will disappear after the next election and we'll see some sort of leadership challenge it's west (Christy Clark) vs East (some Toronto or Quebec suburb MP).

AstulzerRZD 10-23-2024 03:30 PM

I think another hot take our chat has is...

Cons path to votes was through Surrey - healthcare, tourism, etc. Very successful strategy.

We think funding Surrey is a huge mistake because they refuse to upzone.

Brentwood's much more relevant to us; why are we building transit and healthcare for single family homes when it's way cheaper to serve higher density areas?

That said, I think Eby will announce some stuff for Surrey soon.

Hondaracer 10-23-2024 03:40 PM

I think the liberals were smart enough to move away from Freeland, if you watch the news she’s definitely fallen off almost completely in terms of her public image.

It seems like they were focusing on trotting out Joly far more recently

westopher 10-23-2024 04:58 PM

Melanie Joly is hot, so I'd vote for her.

So you're saying he made use of his leverage to get things done, but doesn't deserve credit for it because ... he had to use leverage to do it?
