Leah West, a former lawyer with the federal Department of Justice, describes the country's policy as one of "inaction."

Another Canadian ISIS fighter who goes by the nom de guerre Abu Huzaifa said he spent seven months enforcing Sharia law for ISIS before returning to Canada in 2016.
In an interview with a New York Times reporter, Abu Huzaifa confessed to killing civilians in Syria, but he has not been charged with any crime.
The Fifth Estate approached Abu Huzaifa with a hidden camera at the place where he works in the Greater Toronto Area. He said he is in a counselling program with a local imam that is monitored by the RCMP and aimed at deradicalizing him.
Abu Huzaifa said he is not sure how the sessions are going or whether they are making any difference for him.
When asked what he thought about the captured ISIS fighters in Syria, men he still describes as "his brothers," he said: "If we bring these guys back, it shouldn't be that big of a problem, to be honest. I'm probably scarier than them walking around free because day by day I know I got off scot-free.

The key issue is that prosecuting these foreign fighters will be incredibly difficult given the lack of available evidence. As it stands, there simply isn't a way to ensure that these individuals will be prosecuted/found guilty in court. Hence, the reluctance on the gov't's part to bring these individuals back. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if the repatriation process begins sometime next year, what with the U.S adding pressure on us to "claim" our nationals. Perhaps, the first step is to take a page out of the European handbook i.e. bring home the children of Canadian nationals currently being held in Kurdish camps. Eventually, slowly bringing home the actual fighters. Either way, it is sure to be a highly controversial process that is sure to rile up the average Canadian.
Getting him to flip would be the best outcome. In a jail, it would mean he's got access to other inmates where he can spread his ideas.
What would be the best course of action in this case? Strip him of citizenship and send him back to ISIS? What would that mean for other Canadians, knowning that they can renounce your citizenship.
And the cons want to make it easier for him to get a gun.

They are obviously in a database with a history that would prevent them from being issued a license by the RCMP to purchase a firearm. If anything the Conservative candidates want to make it harder for them to get illegal weapons through illegal means by targeting organized crime not just blanket banning certain types of firearms because ignorant and un-educated people think they look scary. That's the Liberal parties proposed policy.

They are obviously in a database with a history that would prevent them from being issued a license by the RCMP to purchase a firearm. If anything the Conservative candidates want to make it harder for them to get illegal weapons through illegal means by targeting organized crime not just blanket banning certain types of firearms because ignorant and un-educated people think they look scary. That's the Liberal parties proposed policy.
So absolutely nothing to do with canceling background checks or other methods of vetting Canadian firearms owners, nor advocating that firearm ownership for returning ISIS members should be considered. That's illegal. Can only occur if person has dual nationality with another country as was the case recently with that Jihadi Jack kid from the UK.

So this was a straight up cash grab. Whats the point of talking to someone with a massive reach online when it's not going to be shown on line. Me should have brought in Milo. he's broke and could have used the money.

If Bernier nationalised the oil sands and declared getting oil to Asian markets a matter of national interest. I would vote for him regardless of whatever else is in his platform. IMO it is the first step to building Canada in the direction that would best serve its citizens.
