Surprisingly the $250 rebate is for individual incomes under $150k rather than household income. This means if you're making $140k per year, the Federal Government thinks you deserve a welfare cheque?

Why do people actually like this shit?

That's one thing I can't stand about Michelin restaurants. It's fucking awkward when the waiter/s are standing at the wall watching you, waiting to run over and "serve" me.

I don't want to be bugged every few minutes, and I don't need someone lauding over me while I have dinner. I never understood the appeal.

Went there mainly for a couple dishes, and also the wine cellar (not that I can ball so hard to take advantage of it but we got some value out of their suggestions)

It was an experience but it definitely wasn’t the best meal I’ve ever had, not even close. Have had far better at far more informal places locally.

I think that type of traditional ultra service dining in general is dieing though

Again, I don't want the handout either, but things are a solid medium here, pretty objectively when you look at numbers around the world and don't get wound up about rage pieces from either side of the aisle.
Vancouver is such a weird city.

When you look at GDP per capita stats, a province like BC would rank 48th in GDP right behind shitholes like Kentucky and New Mexico, we barely beat Idaho of all places.

https://www.reddit.com/r/MURICA/comm...es_they_would/

People down here in San Antonio are either broke as fuck, or very wealthy, there's very little in-between.

Based on the above stats I'm always mystified how people in Vancouver seemingly have so much disposable income, in comparison to our American counterparts.

Of the Michelin stars I've had, rarely do they have someone just standing there behind you and bugging you every few minutes without being asked.
Published on Main is probably one of the best meals I've had. I had quite a good time at St Lawrence as well, and there definitely wasn't someone standing behind us the whole time.

AnnaLena was good when we went before they got the star, though I would place that experience below Published and St Lawrence.

The other stars I've had were had always been a good experience. The sardine restaurant that we went to in Tokyo was interesting because they definitely got the star for serving something different.

It's kind of funny, I just went to my first michelin star restaurant (Hestia) in Austin on tuesday.

I can't really comment on the service levels since we were in the private room with our own dedicated servers, and the tab was effectively unlimited.

We had a family style 10 course menu and amongst those were definatly some star dishes, and some stinkers. There were few seafood dishes and at the beginning of the service they asked if anyone had allergies or "didn't want to eat something" and a few people said "seafood" so they actually made complete different dishes for those people (and I think what they got was actually better than the original dish)

One thing that kind of soured me was that the wine was flowing extremely freely, every time I looked at my glass it was refilled, even before it got below half way sometimes. I couldn't keep track of how many glasses I had overall (that was probably the point, I got a little drunk, I would wager I easily drank a full bottle) but near the end of the night I got sick of drinking wine so I asked if I could have a beer, hoping they had something from a local brewery. "Sorry Sir, we're out of beer" How the fuck does a restaurant run out of beer?

For pure taste, I had a better time at Victoria's Marilena where we had 6 or 7 courses and every single one of them was amazing and I would order again, and it's not michelin rated at all (part of the Toptable group of restaurants). Although, the server we had at Marilena was almost too over the top, almost fake "performative".

The restaurants and hotels that have the absolute best service experience goes above and beyond that where they can do that same level of service but you don't notice it at all, you just feel extremely comfortable.

I find the really "good" ones they do all that shit but it's obvious and awkward. The exceptional ones have that but it feels unnoticeable.

I dont have the proper etiquette for fine dining, like knowing which fork to use, how to eat a dish properly etc. waiters probably look at me in disgust.

I however enjoy finding those street foods that won a michelin star.

This guy owns a Michelin star restaurant and travels around the world eating at other Michelin star restaurants. It's really interesting. Some of these restaurants are so over the top.
