We have no choice but to start a trade war, they want a trade war we give them one. Turn off the water and electricity taps. Or do you prefer to be a good soft Canadian and bend over with a negotiated 15% tariff, nothing is stopping them with starting another round of sanctions or tariffs on us. If we don't buy enough weapons from them to give to NATO or Ukrainian or Israel. How about this we just go on strike as a whole country and stop selling shipping stuff to us. Since we're so good at strikes |

We could have been Norway but instead we’re Haiti. We fucked over our entire country for the sake of virtue signaling. We didn’t even utilize our resources to transition AWAY from fossil fuels, we walked away from industry and sold it off to corporations that gave us NOTHING in return. It’s done, there’s no going back on that. The revenue from what you’re talking about could have solved almost all our issues. And now we’re begging food banks to stay open later. |

A lot of the power that Ontario and Quebec sells to the eastern states appears to come from hydro, and the problem with hydro power is -- you can't really bottle it up and sell it to someone else. So if ON/QC don't sell to the US, they just become excess power that ON/QC wouldn't know what to do with. And then it kind of goes back into being a game of chicken / who blinks first. With water, personally I wouldn't mind if we stop selling it to the US. It's a precious resource, and we (Canada) should have better water management policies to ensure that we can protect this precious resource for future generations (of Canadians). In theory, US has enough water resources within US to satisfy their needs too. It's just that when they buy from us, it's easier / cheaper for them to do so, so they do it. So again, if we retialiate and add tariffs to our water exports, it becomes the another game of chicken / who blinks first, and both sides end up losing. I honestly don't know how to deal with this Orange shxthead... FailFish |

its a crying shame to see my fellow Canadians suffer due to the short-sightedness from the horseshit government. Ill give you a perfect example: We at the port of Vancouver have been trying to get another HUGE container terminal underway at roberts bank for years now. There's been one road block after another either due to native treaties, or environmental shit (some stupid bitch ass sea bird) and now a lot of shippers have moved either to Seattle/Tacoma or just skipped this coast and routed via europe to east coast USA. We needed this container terminal 10 years ago as the terminals in the inner harbor downtown are too small to accommodate the volumes we are getting. So instead of giving local residents over 1000+ new jobs, a better standard of living, and protecting our industry, we elected to save a few fucking birds and some native land shit. You know who could have been working there? ALL OF YOUS! all of your kids, bic baws wouldn't only have 50 bucks in this bank cuz I would have been able to get him a job there. and what did we get instead? BITCH ASS BIRDS. FUCK YOU BIRD. FUCK YOU WHALE AND DOLPHIN |
Is that terminal ever happening I thought they greenlit it over a year ago? Will just be years of BCMEA and the Longshoremen fighting over the automation of it as well, you ain't getting no one a job there it'll go to every members kid or some shit |
lol like anyone with a higher than grade 9 education and less than 6 prior convictions would have been considered for a job there. |

By the time it finally break ground (if even) it’ll be under serving the needs of the industry again as usual. |

Heck, even some Somali pirates could build a port terminal quicker and manage it better than our dumbass government officials. |
LOL @ Canada being compared to Haiti and Somalia Get a grip for fucks sake. |
Maybe the ports need some better PR. People just see diesel leaks in English Bay, dead whales, and ugly ass ships in our harbor all so that local mobsters, and Dubai princes make money. No way will my kids ever have the opportunity to become a harbor pilot, and the kid next door isn't going to have an 'in' to become a stevedore (and why would he anyway, it's all going to be robots soon). I once moved a container in (importing my Lotus) and the price to unload was retarded. That just made it seem like I was being ripped off. (DP world indeed) In the spirit of today's politics I will just assume everything I just said is a fact. Just like how Honda seems to think Trudeau should be managing a riot somehow. |

By the time we get all the regulatory bs done, we still need somebody to build and operate this new terminal. God forbid the government would actually own and operate a terminal itself with all the profits going to Canada. No, instead the only ones that are likely to bid are dpworld (Saudi owned) Hutchison (basically Chinese government) sSA / Carrix (American) But why would they want to undertake this when we have such unsteady labor relations and the potential for striking at a drop of a hat ? You can’t win around here. |
Bro they are still on strike aren't they? Since we love unions and strikes so much we should just fire all the Canada Post mail man, pay suck deep $18 an hour and get them to deliver 24/7 since they are delivering 4-8 am already. We don't even need trucks anymore just get them to use their own cars. We can hire twice the number of employees for what we are paying to union guys right now. |
You talking about the longshore ? The local longshore foreman’s are under binding arbitration so they are forced back to work by the government and whatever agreement they end up settling with the mediator is what they’ll get. Ultimately both sides lose as nobody is happy and we’ll do this all over again in 1-3 years because that’s just how these collective agreements are signed. |
Same with the ports, bro you guys are fighting robots just so you can get paid $60h a hour as a unskilled labourer? Hire 3 suck deeps at $20 and you can have x3 the amount of workers. Only in Canada can you be the shittiest in the world yet bitch about higher pay. Out of 348 global container ports, Vancouver is ranked 347 with some of the world's longest vessel wait-times https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cbc.ca/amp/1.6873992 |

What's everyone's thoughts on Globe and Mail as a publication? I have some perks with my Wealthsimple account, one of which I can use towards a 1yr subscription to Globe and Mail and I am considering it. I sometimes come across business articles and stock articles from G&M that is paywalled, but I am not sure if the rest of the content is worth using the perk towards it. Also none of the other perks really stand out to be very useful either. |
I thought it's free iPhones, lol the articles are paywalled so I dunno if they any good, but I just mostly read financial post |
