1) Alberta has no jurisdiction on border security. Border security and control are a federal matter.

Personally, I would expect PeePee to stand a bit tougher than Turd. It is very much Turd's nature to present himself to be softer and more sensible, whereas Conservative people tend to act tougher -- both (Doug) Ford and PeePee have vowed to respond with retailitory measures against Trump's tariffs.

Ford's threat to stop transmitting energy to several eastern states is interesting, and personally, even though I generally really hate Ford, I would actually like to see that happen if Trump goes ahead with the 25% tariffs. I don't think it'll cause Trump to back down, cuz if anything, Trump hates losing, and most of the time, that results in him escalating the situation. But if people around him can rein him in, the US will back down. It has happened before with the pulp exports back in the pandemic days as one of us has mentioned.

PeePee is supposed to be an attack dog, and I honestly believe he has that nature in him. At the same time, I also thinks of him as those types of tiny yappy dogs that are super aggressive when they are in a safe environment, but what actually happens when push comes to shove may or may not see that aggressive behaviour continue.

You are absolutely correct about Trump not respecting Turd cuz he doesn't need to. You are also correct that nobody really respects Turd anymore because they know he is already a goner. BTW, not selling power to the states from Hydro based generation is a non-factor. None of the provinces who rely on hydro have the ability to store electricity. They sell based on pricing and demand at that moment.

If BC was to say to California, actually we’re not going to sell to you now, that power is just either not generated, or it’s just wasted into the system. We have no leverage in that matter.

It costs $$$ to generate power, companies like Hydro and Quebec power broker power they have available and are currently generating. That’s why you see hydro importing power during “cheap” times and selling during demand times. They sell this power on the fly. Trump seems to warm up to leaders who are tough on crime, tough on immigration, conservative in general whereas he mocks libs. So I suspect Trump will give the token thumbs up and obligatory congrats to PP when he gets elected and Trump might actually do subtle things or a favor or two to support like minded Cons governments. Only thing that could gain more Trump respect for PP is if PP had a few sexual assault charges against him.

The private sector is hugely incompetent as well, so I have to wonder if the public sector is actually that much worse than the private sector. Lots of people seem to expect the public sector to somehow operate at an efficiency level far beyond anything that has existed in reality.

That's not true at all. We often come up with amazing products. I've worked or at least visited several small companies that were building industry leading products. The problem is that most of the owners follow the Canadian dream. And that is to sell your company to an American and ride off into the sunset. It's rare that things actually stay here.

In Vancouver alone you can still see a few around like Avigion (Motorola), Arcteryx (AMER), Point Grey Research (FLIR), Crystal Designs(->BO->SAP), etc.

Exactly what I'm saying, the government in power makes almost no difference to your life. But it can negatively impact a lot of vulnerable people.

So every single private company I’ve ever worked for is based on metrics. Whether that’s profits, timelines, outcomes, etc. if you don’t meet those metrics, you are fired, your contract is terminated, you no longer get work based on your incompetence.

The opposite seems true in the public sector. You can continually prove you are not capable of meeting your obligations and continue to be awarded contracts. You can also consistently run cost overruns, not meet deadlines, etc. and still get work.

Don’t know who you’ve worked for in the private sector but if you operated a business in the construction industry like people do in the public sector, you wouldn’t last a year.
