Funny how Trump is saying all this in his attempt to troll us. If you alter just a few choice words, it rings even more truth than his original post:

The Great Province of USA and the World are stunned as DJT wins the presidential election. His behaviour is totally toxic, and not at all conducive to making deals.

If Trump thinks we and our PM - Finance Minister debacle make us a laughing stock, he is obviously not realizing he is making himself and America the bigger laughing stock around the world.

I highly doubt anyone is reading his tweets about Canada and thinking Canada is one looking better out of the two. Even when it’s him tweeting it.

^canada is more than just the GVRD and GTA.
i know a new immigrant who started in vancouver then moved his family of 4 to terrace. him and his wife worked as cleaners and care aids and bought a house within 2 years, now just another year later they are looking to buy a second house. he was telling me with lots of overtime he made about 90k last year and over in terrace that's plenty of money. so his base salary is probably something like 60k and he busted his ass to get a leg up. he loves it over there as well. no traffic, lots of nature, and they don't have to struggle to live in a basement suite, they can buy a house or two.

Hondaracer 12-17-2024 09:37 AM

Dunno.. Terrace sounds pretty hopeless..

Here’s a half duplex in Merrit for $600,000..

https://www.realtor.ca/real-estate/2...erritt-merritt

20% down for a 600,000 merrit duplex is $120,000

If you make $80,000 what’s your take home? $60,000?

Best case scenario you live in a 1br for $2000 a month = $24,000 a year.

What’s it going to take you, 20 years to save up a down payment to live in Merrit?

unit 12-17-2024 09:56 AM

here's a half duplex for 400k in merritt.

https://www.realtor.ca/real-estate/2...erritt-merritt

has a rental, you can use that as income on your mortgage application and probably get this place with a pretty low income requirement. your mortgage would only be 1760 and with a suite you can rent for maybe 1000, your tenant will pay for half your mortgage.

if you're making 60k after taxes you don't go out and rent a luxury 1br for 2k, you rent a basement for a while and grind it out to save for your down payment. you go on the rice and beans diet, get the cheapest reasonable accommodation, work overtime for a few years, etc..

even when my parents came here in the 70s they didnt expect to just let everything fall in their laps, they had to grind for what they wanted.

The US just had a 15 year old girl kill 2 at a school shooting and you think Canada looks worse than the US right now?

Also just had Canada post deliver mail. It was only 2 pieces. i thought it would be a lot more.

When they came here in the 70’s homes were $50,000.

My cousin who owns 5 houses Came to Canada about 15 years ago. At one point he was living in the basement of a family member's business that he worked at. All he had was a mattress on the floor and a hot plate.

RevYouUp 12-17-2024 01:02 PM

Like I said in the Trump thread, if you work hard in Canada you'll come out on top.

Hondaracer 12-17-2024 03:12 PM

Try to buy 5 “houses” like manica cousin based on nothing but effort. I’ll give you my house if you pull it off.

Two doctors couldn’t do it.

Traum 12-17-2024 03:31 PM

and while we are discussing the chaos in Ottawa, someone is laying down the background work in preparation for a run at the next Liberals leadership...

Recall this is the person that encouraged our home prices to go on a runaway rise, turned a blind eye towards money laundering at the casinos despite being fully aware of it, and crippled our ICBC coffers with a $1B+ dumpster fire debt.

And now she wants to give it a go at running our country.

I absolutely despise PP. But if the choice was between PP and CC, I would rather see Canada wither under PP instead.

Hondaracer 12-17-2024 03:33 PM

As I said before, the liberals are imploding from the inside and everyone within the party is so oblivious, I wouldn’t doubt CC gets to, at the very least, the top 3 candidates for party leader.

PP is looking like a slam dunk for a 2 term PM

Great68 12-17-2024 03:35 PM

Christie Clark has a good track record for killing Liberal Parties.

Tapioca 12-17-2024 03:42 PM

The thing that could work in Christy's favour is that she's always been in support of resource development projects. She also can't really be lumped in with Trudeau as she's not really a centre-left Liberal.

Despite what many here think, she still has a lot of support in political circles. The Conservatives would have a more challenging time in attacking her than someone like Freeland.

For some reason she's been able to avoid being tagged that much by the media as a dispicable person. Regardless of her politics there's plenty of little, underreported stories about her being a real jerk of a person. It's not even that she's being a tough politician, she's just an entitled a-hole from all accounts.

whitev70r 12-17-2024 04:57 PM

CC is delusional ...

Badhobz 12-17-2024 05:00 PM

Yah i rather have Charles in charge.

Great68 12-17-2024 05:00 PM

No Shit. She has zero experience in Federal Politics, never even RUN for a Federal MP seat, and she thinks she can just rock up and be like "Hey I'll be leader!".

Does anyone east of the Rockies even know who the fuck she is?

Hondaracer 12-17-2024 05:05 PM

Tracking with the feds, the BC NDP blows passed their budget

https://www2.gov.bc.ca/assets/gov/br...cal-update.pdf

Corporate income tax revenue in BC is down year over year almost 400 million. Tracking with exactly what I said about attracting investment and industry.

Because if you step outside of the tech community, she has the support of many people and organizations that pull the strings of politicians in this town and province.

What do you mean tracking with the feds? Are they the same party? Do t hey have the same mandates and follow the same processes? Do you think BC would not have experienced this with Rustad in charge?

................. or maybe it doesn't matter that much what party is in charge financially when the world is going through a recession?

Hondaracer 12-18-2024 09:09 AM

Would be amazing if anyone could forecast a budget within 20% of final total.

Recession, inflation, bla bla isn’t new. The habit is to aim low and blow over your anitipcared amount, especially this year during an election as once you have power again what other choice does the public have other than accept the budget?
