I may have mixed up my history

CivicBlues 12-19-2024 10:22 AM

Yeah basically T&C would have become a colony of Canada even if they were going to "be a province". I thought the UK just wanted to unload them on us. I don't think even back in the 80s we had the appetite to be an colonial power.

Go to the Island to Tofino etc. rooms are still 500+ and it’s nothing but rain and the potential for road closures.

Went to Toronto last year during the family day long weekend and it -20.

In that Nov-March timeline you’re basically stuck inside wherever you go unless you’ve got a snowmobile or skiing etc. fun.

You can get hotels on the Island for as little as $100 a night.

^^ what's there to do? It's pissing rain, storm + you pay like $400 round trip to bring your car. Everything is closed at 5 pm. FeelsBadMan

We got some great driving roads. some with next to no cars.

underscore 12-19-2024 02:21 PM

You do but idk if blasting down them during the winter is ideal. That said during most of the winter I wouldn't go to the US either. If I'm going through the expense + effort to go somewhere I'm going far enough for the weather to be really nice.

mikemhg 12-19-2024 02:32 PM

BC has fuck all to do in the winter, trip wise, sure you can do the interior for skiing, but that's a couple days max, and can be quite pricy.

Sitting in a hotel/motel in Parksville while it rains everyday and it's dark by 4PM isn't exactly what I'd consider a ripping vacation :lol

Hondaracer 12-19-2024 02:39 PM

Bro, you could go to Nanaimo and get stuck by a dirty needle, that’s all you need

Better than getting shot in merica.

Hondaracer 12-19-2024 03:00 PM

Nah

westopher 12-19-2024 03:14 PM

Gun violence is no big deal to Honda cause he thinks guns are neat.

Hondaracer 12-19-2024 03:38 PM

Nah I’m just not a pussy.

Been to Cali, Vegas x 2, and eastern Washington in the last year and all 3 felt safer than downtown Vancouver

In nanaimo can’t go into a public washroom without being stabbed with needles?

underscore 12-19-2024 04:19 PM

Most of the places in the US that I've been this year were way sketchier than downtown Van has ever felt to me but I'm not in the nice tourist spots the whole time. In LA there's about a dozen guards just around the rental car place by LAX. San Leandro people tell you to drive out of town just to get food. In Wisconsin my coworkers guesstimate if the gunshots sound far enough away to risk trying to get fried chicken or not.

I take my kids to that park and bathroom all the time. It's fine. Plus, they are about to spend a shit ton of our money making gender neutral bathrooms there. That's probably more scary for you Honda.

Hondaracer 12-19-2024 04:35 PM

Sounds like a great use of your tax dollars for a shit hole town with epidemic levels of crime and addiction. Liberal ways trump everything though hehe

More people probably OD on a daily basis in Nanaimo than there are trans people that live there :lol

EvoFire 12-19-2024 04:44 PM

It doesn't matter, to Honda Canada bad anywhere else better. But yet he won't leave. At least Hehe he has plans to leave.

Canada policies are losing him money yet it doesn't matter.

Hondaracer 12-19-2024 04:52 PM

There will be a time when I live elsewhere. It’s not a matter of wanting I’m not Hehe I can’t afford to just get up and leave. My employment doesn’t transfer elsewhere otherwise I wouldn’t be tied down here.

Other places are better, or have less of the problems we see here. But hey, someone told underscore there are scary places out there so this place isn’t so bad.

Btw, everyone scared about gun crime, our fearless leader has seen double digit increases in gun crime year over year in almost every province

https://www150.statcan.gc.ca/n1/pub/.../00001-eng.htm

Quote:

Both the violent crime rate and the rate of firearm-related violent crime have increased since 2013, but the increase in firearm-related violent crimes was larger (+55% compared with +24%). The rate of firearm-related violent crime increased because violent crime in general is on the rise, but also because violent crimes are increasingly likely to involve firearms (2.8% of violent crimes in 2022 compared with 2.2% in 2013).
So we’re totally shit at social issues while also being TERRIBLE at criminal issues :lol

Crazy that a decade and literally hundreds of millions, if not billions of dollars spent going after law abiding gun owners has resulted in an incredible increase in gun crime, and no positive outcomes when it comes to repeat offenders committing those crimes? Who’d have thunk?

CivicBlues 12-19-2024 04:56 PM

When you go on vacation how often do you watch the news or check up on the news online for the city you visit?

I doubt you do. Because if you watch the Evening News in any given city in the US you'd come away with the impression that it's a cesspool of criminal activity - murders, shootings, robberies is basically the first 30 mins of every newscast.

Well, if it bleeds it leads. No different than here.

Watch global news every night for a week and things look even bleaker than I make them out to be.

So the places you've been to as a tourist and think are better than Vancouver count but the places I've been to for work and think are worse than Vancouver don't. Very consistent. In the past 2 years I've spent 98 days in 14 different cities in the US and I'd much rather be in Vancouvers downtown than any of theirs.

That's because you go to all the tourist parts of the city.

lol like I don’t get this argument about “touristy” places oh you mean like when I go to LA I don’t stay on skid row? No shit.

Don’t need to drone on about the time spent abroad but I guarantee you, the vast majority of my travels are not in tourist traps and guided tours.

When you go to a city like Rome etc. it’s fucking sprawling tiny parts of the core are as big as the entire island of downtown Vancouver. So when you’re an hour, two hours, outside of city centers in random places that’s “oNlY tOuRiST plACES!!” Nah.

Like what do you want, to search out trouble? I guarantee you the vast majority of people would feel totally uncomfortable in a huge chunk of places I’ve been, unguided essentially wandering around. And weird enough, none of those places ever have homeless drug addicts stumbling around. Buttfuck nowhere in Bosnia, in some random back alley Bar in St.Petersburg, sketch neighborhoods in rural Spain, etc. bra, find something not touristy!! lol like give it a rest.

westopher 12-19-2024 05:44 PM

lol all of your fears seem to be rooted in your heinous understanding of mathematics.
Like you think you're guaranteed to be stabbed by a needle because you saw one story about it happening in naniamo but you'll never get shot in LA cause you didn't get shot when you went there.

Hondaracer 12-19-2024 05:45 PM

Also, it’s not always this argument of “everywhere is better than here” it’s more so here used to be amazing, and it’s turned to shit.

Back in the early 2010’s here I used to be trumpeting how great Vancouver was and people here would be like “yea well it’s no Hong Kong!!!” And I said HK is a joke communist puppet state and got torn apart

Now I’m like fuck we’re turning into a dump, largely due to policy and elected officials, and people NOW are like ehh Hondaracer you’re wrong!!! lol

Whatever
