Serious question. Why aren’t there more agnostics and atheists in the running? Religion has no place in politics, and regardless of which religion, candidates can’t seem to keep their own out of it, not always through their own fault I will admit though.
Keep your interpretation of your favourite novel out of government, because what matters is how the people, environment, and economy, on earth, at this current time are affected.
I do agree with you, and as the younger generation sways away from religion politics will probably sway with it. But as that banned editorial in the newspaper which was posted weeks ago (which was touted as highly racist). Our countries morals and policies do stem from a Christian base. Any other opinion will clash with the majority view. The guys article was extreme but he made some pretty valid points.
Edit: if I read the posts following yours I could have ignored this post
Completely. Lol
It may have been found for that reason, but settlements were established to spread Catholicism by the French, and Protestantism by the British.
You have to understand at that time religion was the highest understanding for life itself. It was the reason for everything known to man.
Episode 2 and 3. It happened that the explorers and settlers were Catholics and Protestants. The reason for colonisation/settlement was not to spread religion.
I agree that back in the day, 1600s to 1800s, religion had much more impact in the daily lives, since it was what most people were raised on. Furthermore, there was no evidence to disprove sarcred texts.
The first permanent settlement in Canada (now Quebec) was formed by the jesuits missionaries in early 1600's. Brought by Samuel de Champlain under order of the kingdom of France to convert the pagan aboriginals.
Jesuits were also sent to South and central Americas to convert the millions of aboriginals who inhabited the continent.
This was done to counter the growing number of protestant followers, during the period leading to the thirty years war (1618-1648 i believe) which involved all countries of Europe between these two factions of Christianity. Millions dead. Yada yada yada.
No doubt material gain was a big factor in the establishment of colonies. But it can't be overstated the initial goal of the French to grow the Catholic church during the period of that holy war.
Ps. I haven't watched those videos yet tho. They are loooong dude. But I'm gonna watch them tonight as i do love good Canadian history docs. And i do appreciate you sharing

I've read a new articles and there are no mentions of jesuit missionaries for the french settlement. They speak about the fur trade though.
"In 1604 Champlain sailed to Acadia with Pierre Dugua de Mons, who planned to establish a French colony there. Champlain had no position of command at either of the Acadian settlements at Ste-Croix or Port-Royal (Annapolis Royal, NS). As a cartographer, he was given responsibility for investigating the coast in search of an ideal location for settlement. He was also required to act as diplomat in dealings with the Aboriginal peoples that Dugua wanted to get to know better. Twice, in 1605 and 1606, he explored the coastline of what is now New England, going as far south as Cape Cod. In 1608, Dugua chose the St Lawrence over Acadia and sent Champlain to establish a settlement at Québec, where the fur trade with native peoples in the interior could be controlled more easily."
Yeah, I really like watching those documentries and the history of Canada. Took me a while though, like 3 months while i was unemployed, I found them really dry.
anyone know if the french debate will be air'ed in english on TV? if so which channel?

Yea they seem a tad dry. I started watching last night, buuuut fell asleep halfway through the first one. I did catch that they stated John Guy as creating the first permanent settlement in Canada in 1610, but from what I found that is incorrect, as it was Champlain who did so in 1605 and then again in 1608 in the st Lawrence/Quebec.
I found this series a few years back. It's got that good old Canadian feel to it. Like you're back in high school social studies. they're only about half hour too. Check it out. I think you'll like them.
Here's an episode detailing the dynamics of what i was talking about

If Scheer wants to win this, he has to pump Jagmeet Singh's tires, split the left vote because Cons is really only right (politically speaking) alternative. There are enough people who are sick and tired of Trudeau's privileged white arse but will never vote for Scheer.
Don't think I saw this posted so I'll leave this here. Liberal/NDP candidate for Richmond Centre didn't even bother to show up. NDP candidate for Richmond East was too young and seemed a bit ill prepared. Joe Peschisolido and Alice Wong both felt like career politicians and Joe felt a lit greasy imo.

I wouldn't be surprised if some on the left are trying to get cons to vote for Maxime Bernier.
Is scheer still considered old stock?
I also wonder who has been here longer Jagmeets dad or scheers?

JT was getting very giddy when Bernier started the PPC, they thought it would split the right vote but so far, PPC is kinda irrelevant.
Scheer is considered as exciting and has as much charisma as a piece of cardboard. But then again, maybe that's what you want in a PM instead of a party loving, over the top costume, hands roaming. selfie/IG star.

In review, The Buffalo Chronicle is an online newspaper that focuses on local news in the Buffalo area. They also report news from other locations in New York as well as Washington D.C. Headlines of articles often contain loaded language that favor the Right such as this: Obama’s pathetic ‘Blame Fox’ excuse. This article is essentially a short summary of a New York Post article. Further, articles written by staff are right biased and pro-Trump. Local news also features strong right wing bias in attacking local Democrats such as this: That time Poloncarz appointed ‘patronage hack’ to supervise CPS, following brazen fraud scheme. In general, The Buffalo Chronicle reports favorably on the right and negatively on the left.
The Buffalo Chronicle has also been cited for publishing false information about Canada.
Overall, we rate The Buffalo Chronicle Questionable based on far right wing bias and a complete lack of transparency. (D. Van Zandt 5/2/2019)
Carl Pasquale Paladino[2] (born August 24, 1946) is an American businessman and political activist. Paladino is the chairman of Ellicott Development Co., a real estate development company he founded in 1973.[3]
Paladino ran for Governor of New York in the 2010 election. He upset Rick Lazio in the Republican primary, but was defeated by Democrat Andrew Cuomo in a landslide (63%–33%) in the general election. Paladino's candidacy was supported by the Tea Party movement[4] and by residents of his native Western New York.
Paladino was elected to the South Buffalo seat on the Buffalo School Board in 2013, and was re-elected in 2016. In December 2016, the Board condemned as racist remarks Paladino had made about President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama and demanded that he resign.[5] On August 17, 2017, following a public hearing, the New York State Education Department removed Paladino from his Board seat for publicly disclosing confidential information obtained in executive session.[6]
This is fake news.
What facebook group did you get this from?

I think Jagmeet's stock rose, he presented himself as the most sincere and personal. He handled himself well. He had the best one line zingers. "You don't have to choose between Mr. Delay or Mr. Deny ... there is a better choice".
To be expected, Trudeau was the punching bag all night. Scheer's opening volley was funny ... blackface, mask of feminism, mask of indigenous, mask of environmentalist.
Trudeau ... blah blah blah ... Doug Ford ... blah blah blah ... Doug Ford
