What do you do for work? Genuinely curious what this magical job that commands respect is. If you aren't a doctor or a firefighter or a nurse or paramedic I don't think whatever it is gives you grounds to shit on any career paths. Also most people in those jobs aren't big enough pieces of shit to think they are some god tier above everyone, so assume you aren't in the business of making the world a better place. |

ConScene calling WokeScene morons WokeScene has an easy, rich life because they conform and do what the system tells them ConScene has an easy, rich life because they conform and do the very minimum to resist the system but go along with it anyways because "muh voting conservative" Meanwhile the actual people who do the effort, like myself, are extremely punished for speaking out and cannot even afford to survive in this climate of hyper-conformity. From my 3rd place, it is like watching a bunch of handicapped people having a slapfight. Both sides are completely ridiculous. |
I'm imagining an alternate timeline where VRY has a Time Machine and goes backs and convinces every single future PM and future Bank of Canada governor (every single has an Arts degree) from the 20th and 21st century that the Arts degrees they are all working on are bullshit and that they need to switch to something better like being a plumber or line cook. We then end up as a white version of North Korea. |
So, back on point ... who or how do we vote in the Vancouver municipal byelection for 2 councillor seats? Put someone non ABC in there to keep them accountable? |
I mean he’s not completely wrong, I didn’t know what to do with myself out of high school and my dad said I had to go to university wouldn’t let me go to BCiT so I did and got a BA out of force pretty much. I don’t think it was super helpful in getting a job, but it all comes down to the individual how you present yourself and adapt and think through things. I wouldn’t change my path either because I met all my best friends to this day at university through the car club there and got into racing, etc. I’ll basically be retired with no debts in my early 50’s so I can’t complain about where it all got me. I’m sure there’s lots of burnouts too but it’s not a mark of the devil or stamp of failure lol |

Everyone here can argue politics all they want. But the sad reality is that our vote has the same weight as my unemployed 19 year old cousin that sent me his resume with a meme cat on it to print out. Changed: “your” to “our”, smh |

I dunno how many people would find this offensive, but a recent incident by the sitting Don Valley North Liberal MP, Paul Chiang, has been extremely offensive to me, and Carney's response to the incident is absurd and infuriating as well. The incident can be more fully described here: https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/car...hina-1.7497765 but the TL;DR version is: - Conservative candidate Joe Tay is a former Hong Kong resident who has a HKD $1M / Cdn $184k bounty on his head by the Communist Hong Kong gov - Chiang suggested that people can turn Tay to the Chinese consulate and collect the bounty - Chiang has since apologized for the comment, but Tay rejected it - Carney refuses to expel Chiang from the party, and Chiang continues to run in his riding as a Liberal The incident and Carney's response in themselves are obviously very troubling. The bigger issue is -- it gives tangible reasons for the public and the Cons to further question how close Carney / the Liberals' ties are to the Communist Chinese gov. There has already been reports about Carney's meeting some Chinese central bank big shot in late 2024 and securing a sizable financing deal for Brookfield. And now incidents like this add more fuel to the accusations that Carney / Libs can be effecitvely influenced by Communist China. Carney has obviously categorically denied the accusations of influence, but the events themselves directly challenge the credibility of that denial. Being too friendly to China has always been something the Liberals get attacked for, and this just adds more evidence to those accusations. |

I think he should resign or be fired and I think Carney's wrong to keep him on board. I don't have a problem with Carney's defence (teachable moment, lifetime of service, etc) but I don't think Carney's reading the situation right here. Quote:

^ I've been meaning to look into that but haven't had time. It's great that you bring that up because someone is gonna be like left good, libtards, blah blah blah. I don't have much information, but off the top of my head.... Depending on how that particular riding is doing, swapping candidates may not be ideal when the Libs are trying to win every single seat they can in what might be a very close race - it could signal Carney not being strong morally Carney may be strong economically, but he might not be as well versed in the Pacific side of the politics considering he's played more on the east coast/Europe. Definitely a weak point moving forward as trade tensions are ramping up with China. Either ways, it doesn't look good. Taking a step back, it's funny how things align in this world. Pro democracy groups in HK typically is very pro-Trump and for a very specific reason, because Trump is hard on China. The groups fly a democracy flag but at the same time Trump is an attack on democracy. |
This is an excerpt from an opinion column in the G&M that came out after Carney defended Chiang: Quote:
