I did find it weird that the pro democracy group(s) in HK were pro Trump. It's pretty damn clear to us that he doesn't give an actual shit about HKers but they thought he would support them because... China. Short sighted and uninformed if you ask me. Kind of like Cubans and Latinos supporting cheeto, being deported in droves and now expressing regret for their vote. HKers would very quickly find themselves in that category, it would just be another rug pull.

Why do the people on the left always have to be perfect. Cons say the dumbest shit and they get a pass all the time.

En-Pro tells CityNews that prices are expected to fall 17.6 cent(s) at 12:01am on April 1, 2025 to an average of 139.3 cent(s)/litre at local stations.

What, I never said we’re not equals lol. No one is better than anyone else in here, but some of you are definitely on some kind of high horse. I’m just a normal peasant enjoying my day. Ya’ll keep putting words in my mouth and assuming things.

Is there a translated version of the comments with actual context? It's a dumb thing for a politician to say but context matters. Refusing any apology and calling it "unsolicited attempt to contact me." sure makes it sound like the Cons are overdoing their reaction, which isn't exactly surprising.

It sure read like you were lamenting the fact that an unemployed 19 year old got equal rights when it comes to voting as you do. You said it was sad that it was the case.

Kenny Chiu, also a former HK resident, was the Conservative MP for Steveston—Richmond East between Oct 2019 - Aug 2021. He was very critical of the Chinese crackdowns in Hong Kong during the protest eras, and likely as a result of that, there has been quite a bit of noise suggesting China flexed hard on its local influences to make sure Chiu doesn't get re-elected in 2015. Of course, our foreign interference report did not find enough evidence to suggest there was Chinese interference, but I tend to believe that it is just that the report didn't find enough evidence (as opposed to it not taking place.)

A lot of things Carney said in his reponses to both the Chiang incident as well as the Brookfield Chinese financing deal make sense. In particular, I strongly agree with Carney about how Canada needs to find out the places where we can still cooperate with China, while being careful to avoid the things we can't agree or compromise on. On the other hand, I don't think he displayed enough political awareness with the Chiang incident because it is really serious. If the Chinese bounty was replaced with a Russian bounty, and the target being a former Hong Kong resident was replaced with a Ukrainian, there probably would have been a far stronger reaction. And if the Chinese bounty was replaced with a Hamas bounty, and the target became a Jewish person, then comdemnation would be so swift and strong that it'll happen within the hour the comment was made. The nature of the comment would have been the same in all 3 cases, but the outcome is different.

Actual video of him saying it: https://www.threads.net/@neverpoilie...7Cb7a6i7TRqtJA

This probably wouldn't bother most men but this is one of those super awkward things that will make most women cringe. It does not take a genius to know that you should not talk about a woman's biological clock anywhere in public ever. EVER. And you most certainly do not relate it to her ability to buy a house before she has kids.

i hope so, b/c over the weekend it went up to 19x.x so dropping 17.6 cents would make it like 17x.x which is what it was before the announcement :lol

If you look at the gas prices history for Vancouver:

https://gaswizard.ca/price-history/

On March 13, regular gas was still selling for $1.789/L. Then over the course of the next 2+ weeks, we are now at $1.969/L for regular.

Summer blends seem to be required (by law) between June 1 to Sept 15, and it seems unlikely to me that refineries will be switching to the more expensive summer blends this early in the year. Communities as close as Hope is still seeing sub-zero temperatures overnight right now.

These Big Oil bastards are fully aware of how much pain consumers are willing / able / forced to suffer to pay for gas. So in the lead up to the carbon tax cancellation, they have preempted the price drop by not-so discretely juicing up prices first.

And now we'll be right back at $1.789/L after the carbon tax cancellation.

The gas stations in Ontario already started switching to summer blends so I imagine its the same there too.

PP is doubling down on his messaging and putting his other foot in his mouth ... at this rate, it should be a landslide Lib majority. PP will go down in history .. as one who had a predicated slam dunk majority to being relegated to minority government again ... yes, for the 4th term.

People losing their minds about the capability of people to speak French in politics… my MP…

https://i.imgur.com/5JleiGu.jpeg

By the way, forgot if I actually mentioned this but I tried to go through the “proper” avenues to contact both my MP and MLA, both NDP in Kwan and Nikki Sharma.

I wrote them well worded emails with my concerns, I’ve now followed up twice with them. Nothing

Kwan has a generic response that says she will reply, it’s been 6 months. When I followed up with Sharma, the original email address I sent it to was no longer valid to do “finding Nikki new location for a physical office” which A) I have no clue how that’s relevant to changing the email, and B) is bullshit because the office is still the same office it’s been for the last few years and they are still operating out of it.

Seniors with dementia have to be the only reason a crook and liar such as Kwan can remain in power.

Unfortunately my riding it looks like it’s her or the liberal.. uhg

I don't understand; what is the complaint here? Canada being united against Trump is a good thing.

68style 03-31-2025 03:46 PM

You need to look at Jenny Kwan's history of scandals, she's as gross a politician as there is anywhere in Canada.

Considering the demographics of the riding are +25% asian, putting out a newsletter in a language that may be more common there than French would be more efficient.

To be perfectly honest, if you can’t converse or read a basic pamphlet in English, your concerns for the community almost certainly do not align with mine.

She has gotten the token vote in this riding for far too long, and the only reason why I can see people vote for her still or there hasn’t been another MLA is her appeal to the older Asian demographic that isn’t in touch with her numerous transgressions or doesn’t understand that the times she lied and used the Portland society’s funds to take 40K worth of trips is insanely corrupt at multiple levels.

We’ve had pretty shit candidates run against her, but she’s still the worst.

For certain parts of politics, it comes back to two sides of shit, which I very much are in agreement with you.

With Jenny Kwan, the cultural card plays her a strong hand. And then when pitted against shitty candidates a lot of people end up choosing the devil they know.
