Most of those people don’t leave the house? lol

We probably align on crime but people ain’t out at night, walking around, seeing the shit I see

Also community meetings, RCMP releases, community service announcements etc are only in English. Development permits for transition housing and everything involved in that, English. If people only understand the canto portion of that letter, you likely have very little knowledge of the general situation of the neighborhood outside of hearsay and what she’s telling you.

I feel like with older Asian people, the last thing they want to do is stir the boat. Like Evo said it’s better to go with someone you know VS someone you don’t. It’s not like she’s ever done literally anything tangible for this riding, but her connection to the community with stupid pamphlets like this retains the image of her in people’s minds and thus gets the vote.

(BTW that’s actually me to her left)

CivicBlues 03-31-2025 04:51 PM

Lotta assumptions there bud. I don't know about you but I constantly see elderly Asian people shopping walking around with their little carts on the street. They're also more likely the target of meth-heads looking to punch someone in the face.

And why get pissed off about another language being on government/campaign pamphlets? I mean the whole point is to get them to integrate right? These people aren't going to live forever, their kids already speak English 100% so why isolate them further by not even providing them basic information as to their candidate.

Guarantee the Conservative candidate in your riding has Chinese on his pamphlet too. If not then a dedicated one that's only mailed out to people with "ethnic" surnames.

mikemhg 03-31-2025 05:20 PM

I agree with Honda on that, something about a pamphlet carrying Mandarin or Cantonese at the same level of size/importance as English, meanwhile completely neglecting our other national language just comes off as gross.

Especially in a region where the idea of CCP being involved in our politics as being extremely problematic.

Also fuck Jenny Kwan, she's a corrupt hack.

SkinnyPupp 03-31-2025 05:23 PM

As an immigrant going the other way, whose reading ability of the local language is not great, I appreciate it when I get communications in my native language (not just campaigning but anything). I don't demand it - the burden is on me - but it'll get my attention much more easily, which is the idea behind it.

External influence is a real issue, but I don't know that they are helping NDP candidates lol

WTF is Rollergirl, running for councillor in the upcoming municipal byelection ??

Just a cursory reading of their one page bios, I like Lucy Maloney and Annette Reilly.

Dawson is a familiar face in downtown Vancouver and on the city's Downtown Eastside, where she can often be seen in her trademark bright pink outfits and big headphones, whizzing around on pink rollerblades.

According to the tribunal's decision, Dawson was born intersex in 1968, but was given the name Jeffrey Allan Dawson and assigned a male gender at her father's insistence. She says she has identified as a female since her teens.

Dawson testified she fled an abusive family home when she was 16 and never graduated high school. She went on to rack up an extensive criminal history, involving violence, drugs and fraud.

She has previously been convicted of manslaughter and spent at least 10 years in a male penitentiary. In more recent years, Vancouver police have had numerous encounters with Dawson, frequently ticketing her for trying to direct traffic.
She pretty much runs for city council every election.

https://www.ekospolitics.com/index.p...15-point-lead/

Quote:

[Ottawa – March 31, 2025] With less than a month to go until Election Day, the Liberal Party enjoys a very clear and stable lead. At 48 per cent, the party holds a 15-point lead over the second-place Conservatives, who are sitting at 33 points. At seven points, the NDP has been stuck below 10 points for nearly a month. The Bloc Québécois has seen a modest rebound in its fortunes in Quebec and the party now stands at 22 points in the province. If these figures hold, it is difficult to envision any scenario where the Liberal Party fails to win a majority.
Also, women are not down with the Conservatives:

Lol. My dad just said at dinner he's going to vote for whomever is going to stop giving free drugs to 'those people.'

Those graph are saying to me that the poor, low-educated, young men would more likely vote for conservative.

I guess that makes sense based on what we see

Just a quick follow up on the Chiang issue for telling people to collect the Chinese bounty on Conservative candidate Joe Tay -- Chiang has announced that he will step down and not run in his riding. But I got his riding wrong earlier. Chiang's riding is Markham-Unionville. Don Valley North is the ridign that Tay will be running in for this election.

Chiang stepping down is really the most desirable outcome for himself, Carney, as well as the Liberals. Still, I'd say some amount of damage has been done to Carney's brand as well as the Liberals'. It registers as the first stain on Carney's record in handling party matters, and it raises some concerns about his political awareness and sensitivity.

These concerns are bound to happen, as no leader is perfect. However, generally you'd want to push the errors as far down the line as possible.

I'm enjoying Hondaracer slowly realizing that his twin spirit is actually an old asian man going out for dusk walks. Will he start randomly walking backwards and swinging his arms and clapping or slapping is limbs soon too? :D

I give my bottles to a super old Asian guy who after numerous years I finally got out of him that his name is John. He brings me veggies from his garden in return. I’d prefer more Johns in the neighborhood VS most people but like the Jenny Kwan BS suggests, I’m pretty sure John doesn’t understand the intricacies of politics.

I would assume he also doesn’t vote given what I know about him lol but maybe I’ll see a Jenny Kwan sign on his lawn

All in all Chiang said if you bring in this guy below (ex HK actor who's in the riding as well.) you'll get a reward. I can see how that's a bad rep for someone in politics.
Similar to someone making fun of Jean Chrétien's lip. Guy lost the election at the end.

Gas is $177.9 per litre ... dramatic price drop but down to where it was a few weeks ago before they jacked the price up ... :lol

An interesting profile of Jenny Byrne, PP's top advisor (and who used to run Harper's campaigns). Both flattering and not flattering - which is which will depends on where you stand on how politics should work. I would say she's taken the American approach of fear and division to win elections so in my books she's a bad person.

Great68 04-01-2025 07:05 AM

I can't remember the last time I've really even paid attention to the price of gas when I filled up my car(s).

Love people simping over Paying arbitrary taxes that did not achieve anything they were in place to do lol..

Don’t look at it as the 5 minute savings today at the pump, look at it as the decade you paid into general revenue that got you nothing.

Not sure what this proves other than the fact that Ekos tends to over sample university educated and older populations. They don't weigh it the same way other pollsters do. Ekos has a bad record predicting election results anyhow.

I'd rather pay the money in tax to fund basically anything on the planet over oil company profits. But yeah so simp totally no logic behind that.

spoon.ek9 04-01-2025 07:16 AM

It's a commodity people can't live without. As a gas company, when you know the public will stomach 180.9/L and not bat an eye, are you really going to leave money on the table? Out of the goodness of your blessed hearts? I paid as low as 165.9 in Richmond less than weeks ago. What are the chances we'll see 148.9?

unit 04-01-2025 07:18 AM

my last gas receipt. so it's actually more expensive today than it was just about 2 weeks ago
