Canada's counter-tariffs response to Trump: https://vancouver.citynews.ca/2025/0...tariffs-today/
Carney's announcement:
Prime Minister Mark Carney said Thursday that Canada will hit back against U.S. President Donald Trump’s 25 per cent auto tariffs with matching levies on vehicles imported from the United States. At a press conference on Parliament Hill, Carney said Canada’s counter-tariffs will hit all vehicles that do not comply with the Canada-U.S.-Mexico Agreement and any non-Canadian content in compliant vehicles. They will not apply to vehicle content from Mexico or to individual auto parts.
He said the move could raise as much as $8 billion before any requests for tariff relief are included in the calculation. All of that money, he said, will go directly to autoworkers and companies in Canada affected by the burgeoning trade war.
Carney called Trump’s tariffs on Canada unjustified, unwarranted and misguided — and warned that Trump’s overall campaign of trade hostility against countries around the world will “rupture” the global economy.

Chris Barber, Tamara Lich found guilty of mischief for roles in Freedom Convoy https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottaw...sion-1.7500015 Quote:
Chris Barber and Tamara Lich have been found guilty of one of the several charges against them for their roles in the 2022 truck convoy protest in Ottawa.
Ontario Court Justice Heather Perkins-McVey found the pair guilty of counselling others to commit mischief Thursday at the Ottawa Courthouse.
The proceedings then took a break before moving on to the other six charges, including intimidation and obstructing police.
In January and February 2022, Barber and Lich led thousands of people and brought trucks to Ottawa, protesting pandemic mandates and other federal Liberal government policies.
| I wonder what con candidates will say say about this.

If this goes on long term... like longer than Trump changing his mind with the wind term... then yes I think that will become something that is considered heavily.

Yup. If the goal of killing Canada's auto industry is accomplished then we'll no longer have anything to protect by keeping them out

^^ that's the mentality, why does everything have to be protected. Are you gonna protect fax machine makers, taxi drivers and Hudson Bay employees. You gotta make your industry/ businesses better or else it can't compete. Why do you think Chinese cars are doing so well, cuz the government has a plan and decided to support that industry and poured money in. This is the same shit as all the port workers, China hobs drug car smugglers. They can't do it anymore if they get replaced by robots. This is saying you want to hire the laziest and most unproductive employees around rather than trying to improve.

That's all well and fine... if you take human rights / slave labour / minimum wage / cost of living out of the equation. That's why we can't compete with China or other countries of the region producing anything.
We're happy to buy their shit, but we can't compete because the playing field isn't level.

Minimum wage, cost of living is a government planning problem. There's no way every country has an even playing field. That's like saying everyone wants to be born rich. You get what you are handed and have to make the best out of what you have. How many countries do you think wish to have the amount of natural resources we have. Oil, gas, water, trees, fish. And we still don't know how to use it to our advantage.

We're happy to buy their shit, but we can't compete because the playing field isn't level. | Yeah it's also well and fine if it's just pure competition, and not nefarious like trying to aggressively undercut the competition by relying on state funding, and then once that competition is gone jacking up that pricing.

We just don't, because we care too much about the downstream environmental impacts, and rightfully so.

Remember when everyone opposed site C?
Where would we be today if that didn’t get built? There was so much opposition at every level to the ONE thing we actually do quite well. If that hadn’t of been built we would be completely fucked. Like the US would have had us over their knee 10 fold what they do today.
We don’t utilize our resources we virtue signal.

Canada is literally the middle class white kid in highschool that grew up with a silver spoon. Parents died and handed him a house and investment property. However, he's never worked hard in life and just coasted along in mediocrity. Now he's complaining about not having enough money to pay for kids, and can't afford yearly vacations, property tax, new cars or to retire. |

Mr. Carney said he would try to assemble a “coalition of like-minded countries” looking for an alternative to the United States.
“If the United States no longer wants to lead, Canada will,” he said.
Mr. Carney later added: “The 80-year period when the United States embraced the mantle of global economic leadership, when it forged alliances rooted in trust and mutual respect and championed the free and open exchange of goods and services, is over. While this is a tragedy, it is also the new reality.”

And who the fuck actually buys Canadian cars.
According to Google ai,
In Canada, notable cars and SUVs assembled or produced include the Honda Civic and CR-V (Alliston), Toyota RAV4 and Lexus RX (Cambridge), Chrysler Pacifica/Voyager, and Dodge Charger Daytona (Windsor).
Unless you're a Surrey jack or new immigrant you ain't buying these. All your AMG, M, Beetles, Type RS aren't made here. I don't even want a shitty Canadian made car. If I buy a Lexus I want made in Japan, my AMG hand built in Germany. Tesla made in China. It's been proven those places have higher build quality.
I don't want no overweight lazy American or Canadian building my car.

So what’s PP’s plan for a strong economy? Building houses? Bring it home? Whatever “it” is he hasn’t quite explained that part.
Does PP even have the phone number of a single other country head? That might be classified information…. whoopsie.
