Honda, are you really telling me that the leader of a large corporation / institution doesn't make much of a difference if a sizable amount of the middle managers and front end grunts are the same?
Just look at Apple between Steve Jobs and Tim Cook. I am not saying Tim Cook is unsuccessful, but the Steve Jobs Apple and the Tim Cook Apple are pretty different.
If the bureaucracy below the CEO has gotten to the point where the company is no longer functional, then yeah, no person at the top can turn the ship around. But I don't think we are quite that disfunctional yet. Quote:

So on one hand, people here have spent years arguing Trudeau isn’t the one to blame, Trudeau isn’t behind the policies, he is just a figure head, etc. etc. endlessly this discussion has been had. The point has been made time and time again that the leader isn’t the one making the decisions and policies and legislation is brought through other MP’s and joint committees.
But now.. one guy has changed. He’s obviously a more competent individual than Trudeau, but overwhelmingly the people behind him, who a lot of you have said previously are the ones who make the decisions, are all the same.
I think it’s extremely optimistic, and frankly bordering on delusional to think this one guy has the power and capability of turning around this country/party based on his own intellect and influence while the vast majority of people surrounding him are the exact same characters who got us where we are today.
In reference to your leader of a large corporation comparison, let’s look at it a different way. If you bought anything, a TV, a car, a vacuum cleaner, and two times in a row, they turned out to be lemons. Would you go and buy a third one? Almost certainly not.

I've heard of rocks being thrown through windshields from overpasses more than a few years before Tesla existed. I don't think this is as much of a political statement as people might want it to be.
Could be.

yeesh, it's almost as if the people most "passionate" about politics online should be the ones to stay far far away from an actual career in politics.

Guy didn't get the memo parliament hill was prorogued. Makes sense though because people this angry about politics that are as inconsequential as Canadas (not to say they don't matter, but we don't have fascism or threat to life with any political movements or acting governments) are usually because they understand absolutely nothing about it.

Voted today for municipal byelection ... lines were somewhat long, not that bad but workers say it was steady all day. I wonder if the turnout means that folks are NOT happy with status quo and want to vote 2 councillors in there that is NOT ABC.

It was pretty low key, I got a card in the mail to remind me, saw some mention of it the news. Yah ... low budget but it looks like initial results is a repudiation of Sims. No ABC candidate won and 2 progressive (center) candidates Orr and Muloney will win.
Doesn't really matter in the bigger picture, ABC and Sims still have majority on council. But a symbolic message.

I wouldn’t call it fixing, disrupting may be a more accurate word, it may look cleaner, wouldn’t call it improved or better, but that is a very complex problem

Originally Posted by JDMDreams What's wrong with abc? For city gov't none of this rises to criminal levels but the list of small and medium sized bad behaviour is pretty long. Ken Sim is not serious about running Vancouver, he's serious about promoting himself and making it about himself. Considering he's got a majority on council he's easily the worst mayor of the last 45 years by a mile for how little he's done. The only one that's close to him in low performance has been Kennedy Stewart but at least he's got the excuse of a fractured council that he was not aligned with.
Off the record I've heard through word of mouth from city staff who describe him as unprofessional, unprepared, and uninterested in running the city - it's hearsay but it matches all the public behaviour. Folks like Stewart, Robertson etc all acted with integrity and seriousness.
Ken Sim said he was about the vibes when he was running and that's exactly what he's done. He's done nothing useful but be a lot of vibes.
Decent Reddit thread about it: https://www.reddit.com/r/vancouver/c...his_two_years/
