They'd rather cripple their own national economy and not send Canadian oil and LNG to China to reduce their dependence on coal (GHG). They'd rather block the Energy East pipeline through Quebec while that provincial government dumps millions of tons of raw sewage in to the St. Lawrence and imports all its oil from Saudi Arabia (by tanker) which is one of the worst human rights regimes on the planet. I don't see protestors going after the Chinese or the Saudi's, guess it's easy to sit behind your computer in a country that allows free speech and internet access to go after the softest targets.

To anyone shitting on Alberta I say try having a basic understanding of our national economics before biting the hand that feeds.

I believe it's actually 1.6% and decreasing.
Of course there's the argument that per capita we emit grossly. But i don't really see the relevance considering our land mass.
The idea that Canada, with such a small global carbon footprint, should or could be some leader in combating emissions is actually preposterous, IMO.

He gonna send even more useless junk mail and waste money. All this while padding his pension and doing nothing to improve any constituent's life.

Also, doesn't each party get some form of funding based on how many votes they get? Get a bigger sling for David vs Goliath

Just don't vote.
I'd rather see ballots tossed than see them cast with uncertainty.
That's just my humble opinion though

I'd advise against not voting -- IMO, casing a solid protest vote sends a stronger message than refrain from voting.

Adding to MG1's comments, I am under the impression that candidates (or maybe it was parties?) that get beyond a certain percentage of votes receive some sort of reimbursement on a per vote received basis to offset their campaign expenses. In that sense, even if a candidate did not win, the reimbursement will help them to keep a diverse political spectrum alive, and that should be viewed as a good thing to have.

I have provided zero links/sources, just commentary:

-Breaking ethics laws twice (yes he’s a criminal). He is actually the only Prime Minister in our history to ever be convicted twice for breaking our ethics laws.

From what I understand this was not a CONVICTION as the ethics committee has no teeth. It’s more like a ruling. There is no criminality associated with the act. But I agree for optics it is a strike against Trudeau

-SNC-Lavalin scandal (Subversion of Canadian Justice System, Breaking ethics laws #2)

I think any PM would have done the same thing. As much as his critics hate JT’s virtue signalling, this is also an act of virtue signalling. The leadership of SNC has changed and the company has been doing business properly since and the over zealous prosecution doesn’t serve the cause of justice. I think the Justice Minister just wanted a nice feather in her cap.

-Aha Kahn illegal vacation (Breaking Ethics Laws #1, Cost us $250k)

The Aga Khan does represent a sizeable number of worshippers of which many Canadians are a part of. I see this as more of a pseudo diplomatic mission. I do agree that he probably crossed the line of some ethical rules but I think that there are arguable National Interests work being done.

-Blocked RCMP from investigating the SNC scandal (what else is he hiding?)

He exercises exeutive discretionary power that he has a right to. But I agree it does look bad for optics, but it is an understandable exercise to limit fallout from the SNC affair.

-Hid his expenses regarding the illegal vacation for over a year (Rather than face the music, Mr. Transparency tried to fool Canadians and hide the truth).

He had a right to due process. This is him exercising that right, but yeah doesn’t look good for him.

-Blackface (Racist and any educator who is 29 knows better)

Seems more to me like ignorant racism vs malicious racism. He genuinely thought it was in the spirit of the event. Unlike Scheers straight up bigotry on his anti-LGBTQ speech. But yeah I agree, makes JT look bad

-Brownface (Racist and any educator who is 29 knows better)

You are just milking the similar incident but yeah see above

-Paying off murderers/terrorists (Omar Kadir, $10.5-mil of your tax dollars)

The Supreme Court of Canada had precedence so challenging this settlement would have cost Canadians more money to fight and in the end the money would have been paid to him anyways. The incident that caused this judgement was committed by a previous administration.

-Giving free fridges to billionaires ($12-mil to Loblaws, yes it was your tax dollars).

I haven’t researched this issue enough to comment.

-Groping the BC journalist (Fake Feminist says ‘we experienced the event differently - but would have fired anyone else for doing the same or even joking about it).

Yeah JT does a lot of stupid shit in the past.

-Elbows female legislator in parliament. Says sorry but that he’s only human.

He didn’t elbow her on purpose, it was part of some political rule gamemanship by some other legislator. ANd he certainly didn’t elbow her just because she was a woman

-Jody Wilson-Raybould (Trudeau illegally tried to help his buddies and JWR refused to give in. He kicked her out of the party).

I would have fired her too because she was insubbordinate to him. But I do believe this whole SNC thing was meant to save Canadian jobs (andtherefore Quebec votes) but any PM would have done the same.
-Jane Philpotts (resigned her position due to SNC Lavalin because she couldn’t support Trudeau and then he kicked her out of the party for it).

See above

-Eva Nassif (Fake feminist kicked her out of the party for not using social media to fool the masses during the SNC Lavalin scandal)

He didn’t kick her out because she was a woman. I think it was an issue of insubordination.

-Missing $2.5 billion (maybe you misplaced it in your trust??)

I haven’t researched this enough.

-His India trip and the national embarrassment (inviting a terrorist, dressed like a clown)

He didn’t purposefully invite a terrorist, it was a mistake by his security clearance people. But yeah I think this was an embarrassing trip

-Treatment of veterans (they ask too much)

As did all previous governments

-Treatment of Indiginous People (still boiling water, betrayed over the trans mountain pipeline, sarcastic comment to indigenous protester).

As did all previous governments

-Treatment of Canadian people (lies & corruption, national embarrassment)

WTF this is just an allencompassing BS padding your stats remark

-Mr. environment bought a pipeline (trans mountain)

Don’t Conservatives applaud this move? Jesus fucking Christ I’m generally a progressive but yah it was the right move economically for our nation. Governing is about making decisions and this was the right call.

-His words: Admire China’s dictatorship

He wasn’t advocating that Canada become a dictatorship. It was a commentary on the ability for the regime to act. But I concede probably not a great sound bite

-His words: Fidel Castro was a great man (nobody wants to speak poorly of their father)

Not a big issue for me

-Transparent: hiding behind cabinet privilege (SNC Lavalin)

Sometimes it be like dat doe

-Transparent: Refuses to attend national debates. Would rather they get cancelled so he doesn’t have to face the music.

Blah blah blah

-Budget: the budget did not balance itself. In fact, it is historically high. In 4 more years of Liberal ‘leadership’ our children will have to spend decades paying this debt back.

How much did Harper spend? Also, I don’t believe in austerity

-Refusing to secure our borders or fight crime. Rather than tackling the big problem of crime, he is targeting law abiding gun owners instead. He has lied about the rules of ownership, the regulations around sales and transport in an effort to raise fear and pander to uneducated voters.

Securing the border this vast would take a shit ton of money, should this money be raised by raising taxes or borrowing it? But yeah the whole illegal migrant problem is a difficult one. I have no strong opinion about the gun issues.

-Letting terrorists into our country (100’s of Drug Cartel members, 60 ISIS fighters, etc). I dunno what this is all about but seems like BS

My general opinion is that Liberals have completed or partially completed a large percentage of their promises (i think I read 90%). To me this seems like a competently run government. The Conservatives have no real platform and Scheer seems to be an incompetent puppet. Although I do agree that JT has done a lot of stupid shit but he is still better than Scheer.

I predict a Conservative Minority but I look forward to a Liberal NDP Coalition.

You read wrong, it's down at 62% with with 29% of his promises broken. No politician outside of a dictator can get everything done that they promise, that's not the issue. With Trudeau he broke major election promises like Proportional Representation, Indigenous Reconciliation, Government Transparency, Tax Breaks, etc which were keystones to getting him elected. Check out this site (amongst many) for reference: https://trudeaumetre.polimeter.org/

I'm not sure how you can call the current Fed a competently run government when you outline all you did in your above post. You admit he broke laws that carry no punishment, he is the first PM in history to do so. He and his senior staff are still under investigation by the RCMP for obstruction of justice. He has demonstrably damaged Canada's reputation on the international stage.

To say the Conservative party has no platform means you haven't been paying attention. They are the only party that's put forth a plan to balance the budget in five years, increase border security at known illegal crossing points, boost veterans benefits (albeit not back to where they were before Harper), and much more. They actually have quite a comprehensive platform.

That being said I just hope everyone votes. The more people pay attention to our politics the better they SHOULD get. Holding them accountable is important.

Per capita yes the number looks huge and disgusting, but we are a natural resource rich country. It's the backbone of our economy. We aren't perfect by a long shot but in the energy industry we do quite well, and very importantly aren't producing conflict or dictator oil and pay our industry professionals excellent wages. Canada COULD be an industry leader in O&G and use the revenues to boost green energy initiatives, but we need some leadership with some balls to unlock our potential. Norway is an excellent example of what could be. Sigh.

I think from the last polls, it's looking more and more likely a minority gov't by a coalition of liberal+NDP.

NDP is showing strong in polls and most likely would be the balance of power.

And given our current political climate, I'd believe it's the best outcome. So JT & Co. would be more careful and get their shit together. It'd be miles ahead than anything Scheer and the conservatives have proposed.

So you want to make it even harder for businesses to find workers and lower my families taxes. Can you also do something about the luxury tax on cars and the vacancy tax?

The PPC also has a plan to at least attempt to end the cronyism so blatantly exhibited in the video posted.

Not if you double economic immigration

I've heard the same, but per capita we have to be higher than most purely because anything or anyone going anywhere has so much further to go. I'd like to see a per capita comparison with at least population density factored in as well.

Also temperature, as this countries average is quite low. Heat=energy and we need plenty in a lot of places outside the lower mainland

Maybe that will light a fire under some peoples asses. One of our ex employees was working at a pizza place down the road and was barging on face book that 4 other places that wanted to hire her. The owner put in a bunch of work in trainer her and she quit after a couple of months.

Polls just closed here lol

Let the spending begin/continue.

Manic! 10-21-2019 06:38 PM

With all the scandals JT was still able to win. That's how bad of a job scheer did as a leader of the cons.

Looks like max may also lose his seat.

whitev70r 10-21-2019 06:50 PM

^one of the very few times I agree with you.

Manic! 10-21-2019 06:53 PM

Maxime has lost his seat!!!! The ppc only got around 1.6% of the vote. The party is pretty much DEAD!!!!!!!

Actually a very poignant statement. It's still sad and embarrassing (to me) that Canadians have given Trudeau an endorsement of his heinous behaviour as a statesman. But that's democracy.

Get your pocketbooks ready everyone, it's gonna get ugly. Especially if the Liberals can't get TMX built. With Quebec saying FU to Alberta by going hard to the Bloq TMX is the only option to get our energy exports to bigger markets and at actual market price. If we see Alberta starting to create its own pension fund, healthcare system, et al (like Quebec does, setting the precedent) they may make a run at a separation referendum.

originalhypa 10-21-2019 06:58 PM

Good riddance to the ppc. They were whackjobs, no more, no less.

But why, why, why..... does the fucking bloc quebecois exist?!

I know the answer.
But every 4 years it reminds me that a single province is better than the rest.

The bi-partisinship in our nation shown by this election has me thinking that Canada will not look the same in 50 years. There is too much division between the east, the west, and Quebec. Something has to give one day. But until then, I'll enjoy clean water and safe streets.
