Being a landlord is one of the most selfless acts one can make. Owning land and letting someone live on that land is a feeling of euphoria that is unmatched. Just last Christmas, I wrote a letter to my landlord. My thoughts raced from my mind and spilled out from the pen onto the paper as I found the proper words to express my gratitude. This is the person who sacrificed it all, purchased land, and found it in his heart to maintain it according to code.

I can't even tell if this is satire or not :lol

You're an odd guy.

It's from a meme page on IG. Entrepanure. However, I question if this guy understands it is satire.

I drove around Burnaby today and noticed a lot of blue conservative lawn signs:ohgodwhy:

You can't please everyone.

Let me prefix this as well, I exclusively use AirBnb when I travel, and I know I'm part of the problem when visiting these cities abroad where locals are now getting sick of people like me fucking up their rent prices and access to homes. There is a reason why people are starting to attack travelers in places like Mexico City, Barcelona, Lisbon, etc.

Short-term rentals have been both a blessing and a curse.

Ah yea the taxi lobby, unaccountable sexual predators. What a loss.

Some things are a net gain for society, I’d say bowing down to the hotel industry wasn’t one of those.

I understand that maybe 90% of all rentals go smoothly, both sides are reasonable, when it's time to end, usually done by all the rules. BUT the few stories that you do hear about tenants who find the loopholes, don't pay rent, go on the waitlist for hearing, meanwhile trashing the unit, and landlord is literally losing their shirt, their mind and tens of thousands of dollars in rent and damages. That's one story too many.

The rules have not really changed in 12 plus years. When a tenant moves out you can charge what ever you want. It's harder to be a landlord with only a few properties. Having more spreads out the risk.

Sound logic.

You mean you didn't see all those guys sitting on the fence for prices / interest rates to "drop" snatch up all the houses in 2024? Oh they're all still waiting for the bottom! We just ain't there yet. They're totally gonna buy soon though

Please find me any data that shows the ban had its intended outcome?

Anything.

This study which references stats can data

Says regarding short term rentals:

But the number of “potential long-term dwellings” still only make up less than one per cent of all available housing.
Then this article from this past July saying thousands still operating, mentioning the “tougher enforcement” that never came to be.

https://www.cbc.ca/amp/1.7275643

So.. we have legislation with

- no tangible data to measure outcomes

- no data as to how many operators are actually operating

- no data on how many units are actually suitable for long term rentals

- no way to track the enforcement of short term rentals

- half assed enforcement on violations

- now being reconsidered all together after having -zero- government backed data as to the success of the program

And yet you can just blindly, and ignorantly, just say landlords are the issue etc.

Derrrrrrrrrr… it’s Eby so it must be right.

Boomers are under total Carney hypnosis... if the cons pull this off then the media has completely misrepresented pushback to the agenda.

Can you imagine the shit talk if the Liberal party pulls off a majority? Wokies will be doing donuts in the pit lane!

I haven't voted and likely won't even vote.

westopher 04-21-2025 08:38 PM

If the liberals win "the wokies" are just going to go back to normal life. Liberal voters aren't the ones buying political merch and waving flags on their trucks.

AstulzerRZD 04-21-2025 08:51 PM

I’ll keep saying it: the more profitable being a landlord is, the more broken the system becomes.
Housing turns over every 4–5 years - money just sits there waiting. It's not an economy, it’s a waiting room.

People clown the U.S. for student debt and healthcare, but a new grad software developer can pay off student debt incl. dorm and meal plans
AND afford a new build townhouse within 2 years in Austin, 3 years in Seattle, compared to 9 years in Vancouver.

There needs to be some soft landing that moves more of the economy away from housing.
If we build as much as Austin, asset values will drop 10% and overall rent will drop 20%.

Manic! 04-21-2025 08:54 PM

Carney playing hockey pp on a private track driving a vette. Shows you who is out of touch.

Carney should team up with this site. https://goalieup.com/en/locations/va.../rent-a-goalie Just imagine him showing up to a beer league game.

I was shocked that Trump won the US election. I wouldn't be surprised if the Cons (PP) somehow won.

People are saying many are regretting now going out to vote and now Trump won... not sure if that woudl have made a difference.

it's still 50/50 Lib versus Con.
Crzy how advance voting is record high.

That was always my issue with this policy, among most policy government in Canada puts forward.

It all sounds great on paper, but how does the rubber hit the road? Without people in place to enforce and administer a policy, it's effectively worthless.

That has been a problem in this country and province for a while, look at financial regulation enforcement, it's laughable.

Traum 04-22-2025 09:53 AM

The temperature has toned down a bit since Carney talked to Trump, but generally the political mood still suggests people view this as a high stakes election. So I'd expect voter turnout to be high, and advance voting is just part of that picture.

Also, I think the general attitude among voters is a more welcoming shift towards advance voting. Instead of absolutely having to go and vote on that one single day, you have more flexibility to fit it into your schedule.

mikemhg 04-22-2025 09:56 AM

Voted yesterday, in and out of the Elections Canada office, took 5 minutes.

Let's go Terry Beech, the guy who facilitated the ability for Canadians to renew their passport online, sometimes it's just the little things :lol

Cons released their costed platform

https://globalnews.ca/news/11142730/...-election/amp/

On the surface their home building plan of paying the difference in tax for new home construction via municipalities seems infinitely more realistic than the liberals version of “cutting red tape” which is frankly, completely out of touch with the reality of construction in this country.

That's a completely cherry picked line item of the Liberal housing policy and one that PP talks about more than the Liberals do. AND you're misreading the Cons proposal for offsetting taxes - the Cons policy is to only rebate half of the tax while the Liberal policy is to rebate the whole amount. The Cons policy would result in less infrastructure being built while the Liberals policy will cost the feds more but will result in municipalities building out what they need.

https://liberal.ca/cstrong/build/#housing

Quote:

Cut municipal development charges in half for multi-unit residential housing for five years by working with provinces and territories to keep municipalities whole. These revenues will be offset by federal investment in housing infrastructure like water, power lines, and wastewater systems.

Hondaracer 04-22-2025 10:38 AM

That’s hardly detailed enough to say it’s any better imo.

So.. lost revenue will be offset by further investment.. so when a multi family development is now built they are going to eat the entire cost of the infrastructure upgrades that feed that development as opposed to having municipalities choose when to upgrade based on need? lol ok.

As someone who works directly with utilities all the time, this type of promise isn’t likely to come to fruition until the next election. At best, if the liberals were to get into power I don’t see any tangible change happening at the municipal level until late 3rd, early 4th year of the term.

Things like electrical infrastructure, specific to BC, is governed by an overarching tariff that’s set of the BC utilities commission. Do any of those aforementioned words sound like things that change quickly?

68style 04-22-2025 11:29 AM

I hope whoever is in cuts GST on new builds, I got a presale condo that’s done in December lol

JDMDreams 04-22-2025 11:31 AM

^^ it's always usually only for first time home buyer and under $x. So it doesn't really affect the general population.

unit 04-22-2025 11:38 AM

wat.... for YEARS PP kept parroting removing 'gatekeepers' with nothing specific until what, 6 days before the election?
